  1. It does not matter if the racing was ppor or the line up below par!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A British Rider Won and period. Everyone only wants to knock the stuffing out of British Speedway and here we are the first British winner for time and a day and still the same!!!!!!!! Superb Tai, the prats will only be happy when you tell them you are Australian and they told you so. Your Dad will be so proud of you and steering you to this years GP overall winner.
  2. So its simple in terms of business eh, get a grip. What you are intimating is that if Benji does not perform in 7 rides he also will be out of work? Realism is that the management bottled it. Every new fan who went will be dumbfounded at the decision, but eh Di Matteo was booted out for failing. Ahhhhhh but the owner is a billionaire and not adverse to throwing his toys out and getting his own way. Good luck Benji, hope you do well and David, with contacts like the ones who sold you out you know what to do!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Rugby League changed to summer to try to improve on crowds and not compete with football, but its gone backwards over the last few years. It still goes by the its a summer rugby but thats utter rubbish. Football wants a break in winter as its too cold, meaning the season will encroach on summer. Speedway is traditionally a type of good weather sport, but we dont have that much good weather. Bottom line is 30 years ago we had summer, autumn, winter and spring. The climate has changed and anyone who thinks it hasnt only has to look over the last 5 years. Probably a lot will think that a season from end of April to early September is far too short, but if restructuring and business sense was applied it would be sound business sense. B
  4. Here is the apathy of British speedway. Everyone moans, groans and shouts about opportunitys for riders and here we have a prime example that no one cares enough to report about it when they do. Hope every rider did well, learned something and left the meeting as they arrived
  5. Both rider and management here now have points to prove. 2 rides to get a team place, well good luck in the real world and on those results in the dream world will be world champion after dozen meetings. Management have to be comended on their persistance, they got a World Champion in their eyes. Hope the happy marriage bears fruit and both have a great season.
  6. Why not keep this as a totally British rider championship. Give the lads a chance, instead of paying over the odds appearance money for some over the top riders on a meal ticket. Enough of them in the Elite at present who dont care about anyone but themselves. This is an ideal opportunity to bring through the British talent and let the fans see them, associate with them and get behind them.
  7. Basically all sports are forms of entertainment. Irrespective of 2 or 4 valves, laydowns or uprights, racing is racing. From the late 20s through to now, every decade it has been reported that speedway is in decline or dying. But it is still here irrespective of the format. Personally the main problem at the present is the presentation and continuity of the meetings. Many new people who are introduced to the sport dont care about the silly rules, but are intoxicated by the sight of 4 riders displaying fearless skills to win races. Last year on several occasions I introduced first timers to the sport and goodness me they still go. But as they began to grasp the silly rules and time delays between racers their disillusion became apparent, but the spectacle of the racing presently maintains their interest that they still go.............but for how long?
  8. Well if it is a full house of spectators required, only one team fits the bill to bring the most and the controversy that will follow the meeting...............DUDLEY.
  9. Last Saturday afternoon Workington AFC played away at Brackley in the Blue Square North Football League, Saturday night Workington Comets rode against Glasgow and Sunday afternoon Workington Town RLFC played an elimination match against bitter rivals Whitehaven RLFC. Anyone who thinks the combined 3 did not affect the attendance on Saturday night is a fool. In the present economic climate punters pick and chose where they want to spend there hard earned cash and value for money entertainment. Some will pay over the odds for the Speedway fix, but others want to be entertained and a sense of value for money. Never one to critisize promoters as they try the best (for themselves, it is a business to them) but until they all realise as many say that the Sport needs a COMPLETE OVERHAUL and knuckle down to dealing with it instead of continually burying their heads in the sand, then next season will see only a handful of clubs in 1 league and even fewer supporters.
  10. Common Sense and Speedway are so distant, that is the reason why so many fans have given up on the sport. As for Mr.Morrish, he and certain promoters dictate what happens, now that is common sense or is it knowledge?
  11. Isle of Wight Islanders 47 Danny Warwick 13 Paul Starke 11+1 Ben Hopwood 9+2 Danny Stoneman 7+2 Steven Jones 6+2 Ross Walter 1 Mark Baseby R/R Stoke Potters 43 Ashley Birks 12 Tony Atkin 11 James Cockle 7 Jack Kingston 4+3 Ben Reade 4+1 Liam Rumsey 3 Richard Andrews 2
  12. Well if you read the article where it states 'Impossible situation' From next year the museum will also lose a £70,000 a year grant from Dudley Council. The council made the decision to withdraw funding in March because it needs to save £13m from its own budget. So if Dudley Heathens `were` looking for any type funding through the Council towards a Stadium it looks like the budget could affect them?
  13. Hope that this news doesnt effect any deliberations with future planning. Sorry to hear about it as have visited on several occasions prior to the speedway and always a great day out. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-19535750
  14. The reality is no British rider deserves a `Wild Card for the GP series`. The best performing Brits this year are 1. Richie Worral-but one step beyond at the present, but a definite future prospect. 2. Josh Auty-suspect at gating but preverbial racer and trier, needs support to achieve it. 3. Ben Barker-more deserving than Tai at present and more reliable. Only my opinions for what they are worth, but why must a British rider be in it if they are not up to standard required. We have many foriegn riders who have ridden or still ride in the GP`s who fans can relate to and would still follow the series. In 2-3 years time the British riders in the system will have evolved and become more dedicated to their sports with the goal of winning far out weighing the need to be tarts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. When the entire sporting world wakes up to whats happening with peoples finances and lack of them, then and only then will attendances for all sporting events improve in the UK. The Bank Holiday staging was a mistake from the start for the Britiish GP, so much going on and to compound matters Swansea playing at home and the Twenty20 Cricket finals in Cardiff. Before all berate me, we all know that many speedway fans, even the diehards do enjoy other sports outside speedway and with so much going on it is understandable that the crowd is down by so many this year. Moving forward a complete re think on the staging date is necessary, so that it can attract as many supporters as possible and at a particular time that it does not compete against so many other events. But the most important factor is pricing, this in no uncertain terms has a direct influence on the crowd size. This combined with lack of presentation of the product are main factors in my opinion. Today a rather insignificant football fixture takes place at Shielfield Park in the Scottish Third Division as far as I am concerned, but it has been brought to my attention at least. Berwick Rangers will play Rangers, the resurected team from the once Scottish giants Rangers. It has captured the attention of all and sundry around Berwick, who will no doubt have a record crowd, the price for a ticket has been stated as £10. Sure some rogues will try to make a fast buck but what a experience of a lifetime for some of the Berwick fans and also some who never normally go. Bottom line is, a Quarter full stadium at £50 a ticket and poor atmosphere or a full Stadium at £20 a ticket, with the other 75% additional fans is the spending power during their attendance and much more than that, the atmosphere. But hey, this is never going to happen, this is British Speedway!
  16. Unfortunately Dudley do have a section of over exuberant supporters that do need to be rounded up and in no uncertain terms warned about their behaviour at Speedway. No one can question their loyalty as the crowds at Monmore reflect this, but to alienate other supporters to the extent that they do not attend meetings is wrong. It is time that Stewards or Police evict any trouble maker at Speedway and make it the once safe haven for any family to attend without having to run the gauntlet of abuse or threat.
  17. Spot on Rocket Ben. As you mention, lifestyle and girls tend to be the main pursuit of all our youngsters. Ultimately the main problem lies with the riders themselves for not progressing, attitude and commitment. Fancy websites, clothing and generally looking the part are not an excuse. Everyone rabbits on about money, money, money, no opportunitys - well wake up an smell the methanol. More opportunitys than ever exist to progress now than ever before. Its not up to BSPA, Individual tracks or what ever excuse is put up, its down to the individual and their commitment.
  18. Although being commendable for trying to pull all the information together, the likes of Long Eaton, Mercia Vikings and Halifax all have their own websites which already do this for the MDL. I would still like to know where they are officially designated as Regional Speedway Development Leagues? Professionalism and dynamism are key factors these days, both compliment each other and are not rushed Michael, just like pleasure. Keeping up is hard work and if you want to keep it up, you must push harder Michael.
  19. Everyone is entitled to their own views on this subject, but unfortunately a few have continually undermined posters on the subject. A few have also stated it`s time to move on, but some cannot and keep on brow beating, go, go now and stop now............lets see
  20. If these leagues are officially designated as Regional Speedway Development Leagues, pray tell me where I can find it, that it says it? Start a new thread with the title Regional Speedway Development Leagues then, but please drop the dreadful title that is presently used.
  21. Please can one of the moderators rename the topic correctly. Amateur Speedway Leagues. I know not everyone pays attention to spelling or grammar, but being a teacher it drives me mad every time the title. Credibility for these leagues starts at this stage.
  22. Please. Please can anyone of you hypocrites explain where all these riders to fill the NL are supposed to come from. On one hand we have everyone complaining about the lack of opportunitys for the British lads, but the majority of you dont want to let them have a ride in the NL. Where prey are they supposed to ride? Oh and dont tell me the AJL,MDL and NJL as these are new developments. What about before and now. If you dont want to watch speedway at NL level dont do it, but dont complain unless you can constructively help solve the problem. Scunthorpe seem to be the only ones who are prepared to let the new ones come through and build their careers, irrespective of attendances. Not a lot of whinging from any fans, only support for all they are doing. Unfortunately it is the Southern based fans who have it wrong, but hey you have to go to be a fan????????????????
  23. So here we are at last, just what everyone has ranted and raved about........Plymouth Speedway is for sale. Where are you all now...............checking your bank accounts, by all intents and purposes the club should now be in one of the forum members capable hands Well I never, you can complain, moan and groan(it`s your right) but oh dear. Oh dear, do it dont just spout about wanting a new owner. Yes you can, but can you really be the one to make that difference Good luck Mike with your new track, hope it`s as successful as the one the Plymouth knockers nearly bought from you
  24. For all you knockers out their, where is your money to take over? Forget a community affair as you all cannot agree! Look at some other threads and their discontent with their promoters and team building, Sheffield is a prime example. Believe it or not it is about business and making money, it`s not about satisfying whinging fans. Reality is about the real world, funny that most of the UK speedway fans dont live in it!!!!!!!!!! <personal remarks removed>
  25. Please Oh Please dont end this wonderous debate, Rhetoric between 2 of the best posters on BSF is beyond compare. I tune in specifically to read your posts and beleive me 90% of forum follower do so also. Dont end it this way, I am sure their is still life in this debate and Dave can provide it..............................Please
