  1. A bit harsh, SK. At the start of the year wasn't Jason King a "rider who is or has been putting his career back on track" ! Re. Dudley and Joe Haines, good luck to the Heathens, I say. However, I see that, in today's Speedway Star, Adam Roynon is quoted as saying "if Dudley went Premier League I'd love to ride for them". Is this a realistic possibility for next year?
  2. I wonder what odds I can get on Nigel Pearson name-checking Robert on Sky before the season is over? For a 14-yr old to be getting results like he did this weekend is remarkable. For Gawd's sake let's try and keep pressure off the lad's shoulders for the next couple of years.
  3. Reminds me a little of Andy Murray going to learn his tennis in Spain rather than going through the British LTA route. Let's hope Robert becomes a top-4 in the world competitor just like Mr Murray.
  4. It's glorious in Grimsby, but not sure about Scunny (is it sunny ?). Squall, will you be taking advantage of the discount prices at the EWR tomorrow ?
  5. Quality field that will certainly test Robert. How old is he ? I saw him at Scunthorpe in the junior races before the Ben Fund meeting in March 2011. He certainly looked the part and was clearly better than his opponents. I was surprised that he did not appear in the junior championships. This year he's surfaced in the German "open meetings" and has scored points at the expense of experienced riders of Premier League ability on a regular basis. He would only need to do National League to keep his hand in to be honest. Racing for a team with no pressure applied by management would mean going to the Rye Houses and Scunthorpes of this world, not the Mildenhalls and Dudleys.
  6. With Garrity and Gjedde this should be more of a contest. Here's hoping they both make it to tapes. Weren't Fenwick and Greenwood due to swap race jackets for the contest with the Raiders ?
  7. Rob and all the helpers did a great job preparing the track for yesterday, but I think that the fact that they can start working straight after the Stock Cars finished does help the cause. Some track staff at other stadiums seem to have limited access to their track, in terms of time, in order to work on it. But I agree that "where there's a will there's a way" !
  8. One solution may be found by making the League Cup a play-off between the Group Winners, as was originally mooted at the start of the season.
  9. Tommy's wins brought the biggest cheer of the day and a huge grin accross my face. Lovely to see. "Rock on Tommy!".
  10. Enjoyable double header at the EWR today, and all completed in well under three hours. Highlights: Auty/Barker battle was pure entertainment. Aspegeren was a very good guest for Scunthorpe ( for once) and never stopped trying. Palm Toft heading Barker in Heat 15 was a great ride. Birks and Irving going at it hammer and tongs just an hour after being on the same side. Rob must have had kittens watching the two young Scorpions throwing the bikes at each other in the NL match ! Yet another droll Rob Godfrey Show on the microphone. . And last but not least Tommy Fenwick taking two wins in great style. "Rock on Tommy !"
  11. Understatement or what ? I thought that the omens were poor for the Monarchs tonight, but the Scorpions five regular riders were all on it by the look of it. And I thought that Wolbert would be Scunny's trump card. Feel a little sorry for Edinburgh, just a couple of weeks ago they were in a real "Purple Patch". How quickly things can change.
  12. KJ's posts were one of the best things about the site when I discovered it after returning to speedway after a twenty year break. Come back Monarchs fans, the BSF could do with your wit and wisdom (yes, even Snyper's).
  13. Don't give him any ideas ! I have just got back from holiday and have missed today's meeting as well as the Sheffield win. It seems that we keep doing a "Milton Berle" and just winning by enough to claim all three points at home. Any thoughts from Scunny fans on what I've missed? What is the solution to replacing David Howe ? Hardly any guests have come up trumps.
  14. I listened to the excellent Radio WM coverage and the big crowd was mentioned. However, this is the first post on this meeting. C'mon Heathens fans, give us your opinion on last night's action. I thought Scunthorpe did well to limit Dudley to under 60 points.
  15. Spot (and indeed) On GB is becoming an increasingly irrelevant backwater as far as the development of world class riders is concerned. The best young Poles and other Eastern Europeans like Vaculik see no need to come here to ride apart from a few token meetings to gain a little experience of smaller tracks when they feel like it. The Aussies have learned the basics and plenty more before they arrive at Heathrow and see the motherland as a stepping stone to the riches on offer in Poland and Sweden. Only the most committed young Aussies travel half way round the world. They realise it's do or die to make a career when they get here. The Danes have a well structured ladder taking kids from 80CC up to league racing so that they emerge at 16/17 as fully fledged quality riders and they arrive in GB to ride at PL level as there are so many of them that they need the opportunity to ride somewhere/anywhere! Despite the best efforts of Morris and co there is no real structure for Youth development here, it's all piecemeal and hand to mouth at best.
  16. Firstly hats off to all the riders and the track for such an entertaining meeting, if they were all like that (and the last four heats on Saturday in Quali 1) then the crowds would flock to the sport. GB - fighting performance from all four riders, couldn't ask for much more, shame about the E/Fs. Aus - Holder was class, Crump and Watt OK, Batch........... thanks for showing up. If Ward had been fit then they would have been out of sight. Czech - Really impressed that they did so well, sniffing around GB for second place after their Joker. Germany - A little outclassed, but never stopped trying. The Race Off should see Denmark through comfortably. Does anyone know the line-ups for them and Poland ?
  17. Looks like the Danes are using this round to blood new faces and fully expect to be in the Race-Off on the Thursday. Any sign of naming the reserve ? As Tai and Scott are injury doubts I would have thought that at least one rider would have been put on stand-by (Barker, Stead, Kennett, Allen, Auty ?)
  18. Congratulations to young Zach. Will we see him and Robert Lambert leading a GB revival in the near future ?
  19. Here here, Lewis. Fantastic debut from Steve Jones, where has this fella been hiding? Max Clegg made it look easy on the watered track in the early heats, the lad has a big future - he reminds me of Kyle Howarth in his first season with the Saints. Dan and Tommy also improved as it went along. Super Guest Ash was never troubled. The Hitmen face a long hard road this season. Branford looks a shadow of his former self.
  20. Blimey, half the qualifiers are Poles. No Swedes. Three Danes. The rest of the world picking up the crumbs. Where is the power in Speedway? Not even a question worth asking any more. Great from Richie. Two years a go he hadn't even turned a wheel in the National Leage. He's only going to get better....... and better.
  21. He had an E/F I presume form that, brandonbee48. Problem at the tapes caused by one of the three chavas lookin on, I'll wager
  22. I've just logged on. What happened with Jorgy in Heat 2 ?
