  1. Didn't see his scores from number 2, 3 and 4 for the Wasps last year then?
  2. The storys been done a death many times... I fail to see what Gjedde would gain out of taking Rye House for a bunch of mugs. Len Silver has a super record of being a good promoter to work for, so it doesn't make sense. The fact that Gjedde usually starts the season quite slow as Swindon and Reading fans will confirm may have more to do with it. On a positive note, Mellgren has had a fine start to his Rye House career and Silver would be mad to let him go when/if Nelson returns. I predict him to be a genuine heatleader come October.
  3. and what reason would he have to do that?
  4. Only someone like mr snackete would call signing gjedde a gamble!
  5. Replace Hawkins with Nelson if and when he becomes available to ride in the UK. Mellgren will be a fine signing, like Gjedde he was superb in his stint at Newport last season. A true professional who is very young and will have a big future in the sport.
  6. can someone post a link or pm a link to the s2 reepeat.... i sadly didnt get to watch it at 4am
  7. Gjedde is a top signing on 8.88... he was a sensation for Newport last season, finishing fifth in the final league averages after the start he had at Berwick was a fine acheivement. Not only is he mighty fast when out front, he can gather amazing speed when chasing the pack and some of the moves he pulled off for Newport last year at home in particular were outstanding... one that will always stand out was when Havelock tried stuffig him through the pit gate and he just kept it wound on to win by some distance. He will average 9+ no fear... and will be in the top 3 averages in the PL by the end. A cracking signing and one the Rye fans will take to very quickly.
  8. Ippo would be mad to not try and sign lanham if poss, the guys class and was a massive scorer for newport in the second half of 2012. He is flying atm for rye though and if they want to keep him and he wants to stay there is sod all ippo can do, with frampton and neath both out i cannot see silver wanting to release him.
  9. Leigh Lanham was a brilliant captain for the Wasps during his reign as captain as most will testify. I have seen plenty of both riders over the last ten years to know who I would prefer... Doolan sustained a nasty arm injury a couple of seasons ago and seems to of lost the edge... I am afraid you cannot blame a full season of mediocre form on machinery for a rider of Doolans expierience. Both Neath (by some margin) and Lanham acheived higher figures than Doolan last season which is the main reason why I would prefer both over him. You see it with some riders, riding superbly then one bad injury and its game over... you only have to look at Watson with Newport in 2004/5ish to see that and despite being a decent enough rider after his injury, he was by nowhere near the dominant number 1 he had been in previous seasons and I feel the same has happened to Doolan who despite a few years as KL's top rider, has suffered a bad injury and looks a shadow of the rider he was. Cant speak for Neath but I doubt you will find any rider who has raced with Leigh Lanham in the past 10 seasons or more that wouldnt pay him plenty of compliments... he is a superb team man.
  10. Would you? Neath has an average 1.5 higher than Doolan whilst Lanhams has increased over the last 3 years since his first Newport greensheet average and he was terrific in the latter half of the season for the Wasps. Admittedly Neaths home average helps his figure no end but Doolans days as a top #1 are in doubt as his figures from the last couple of seasons show compared to previous form. I like Doolan but not sure I would prefer him to Lanham or Neath given the 2011 figures, greensheet or actual 2011 along averages.
  11. Also shuts up the people that claim Bowden is too tight to pay for quality riders. It looks a tidy side, combined with Glanz's potential and Cockles solid form at the tail end of 2011, if Holder can maintain his solid 4.5 form and Franchetti comes on a little, it will be a top team! May get a cheeky bet on them at the bookies!
  12. Lanham will give it his best you can be sure of that lets not forget the last two clubs Boxall raced for apart from Rye... Somerset were peed about big time as were Newcastle.
  13. Still under 21 and already one of the best riders in the world. I reckon he could well win more than Crumps 3 world titles.
  14. In fairness though, it was only 5 years ago that Correy was riding PL speedway. A big name from the past who hasnt raced for a bit longer would surely flock the crowds in and the reason I suggested Penhall or Moran (or both ) was because both seem to be involved in the production of the young americans these days.
  15. Something I was wondering the other day... would a big, old name from the USA taking part in their tour be a bigger attraction for fans? Imagine the size of the crowds if, say, Penhall or Shawn Moran took part. I know its unlikely, but has it been looked into?
  16. He may of said that but he has also compared Somersets stadium to Plymouths and from what I have seen and heard, Somerset is streets ahead.
  17. Somersets stadium has improved year on year in fairness... quite a few people I met at Newport from away teams claimed the Plymouth stadium was dire. £2 for a warm can of lager, bitter or cider, disgusting toilets, poor spectating areas etc. Its up to those who told me to come out and name themselves The bar at Somerset is first class, whilst IMO being a little overpriced the food is always of a good standard . I havent been to the Plymouth stadium, I am just going on what I have been told and thats from a fair few respected posters on here.
  18. I think the point about Bowden asking for help wasnt the fact he asked for help, but that he asked them to bring their own brushes which means despite not paying the people to come and help he also wants them to splash out and buy their own brushes which in fairness does stink of tightness.
  19. I dont see why. They have a near ten pointer (whos pretty local too), a verygood second heatleader, a young reserve in glanz who will add to his figure... this team is better than the one that ended 2011 which had 9 home wins on the bounce wasnt it? If Plymouth can maintain a good home record then thats a big improvement on 2011... I am nowhere near Bowdens biggest fan but the amount of stick he is getting regarding his team is un justified.
  20. Ashworth isnt a gamble and if you read back, many teams would of liked to see him in their colours. Dont forget, he will be second heatleader at Plymouth. The Devils do not look that bad and it is a massive improvement on 2011's side... Bowden has many faults but he has strengthened his side for 2012.
  21. Plymouth actually look OK... Barker and Ashworth is a very decent top two, Glanz appears to be pretty handy around there, Boxall isnt a bad rider and if Werner still has his gating head on, he wont be as bad as expected around Plymouth although I expect him to be dreadful away. There are a fair few worse teams in the PL... fact.
  22. In fairness the addition of Doyle and Sedgmen replacing Nilsson and Davies was what turned our season around somewhat... 5 straight home defeats and then Doyle and Sedgmen signed and we ran Edinburgh and Ipswich in particular close away before beating Sheffield at home for our first home win. The signing of Gjedde for Legault was basically the icing on the cake, effectively replacing a 7 point man with a rider who went on to average in excess of 10 for the Wasps. But had we kept the same team with Gjedde for Legault (Lanham, Nilsson, Gjedde, Aspegren, Jones, Davies and Kurtz), we wouldnt have been anywhere near the force that we went on to be at the end of the season. Therefore Doyle and Sedgmen (for the first few meetings before he dropped off and was replaced by Mellgren) have just a big a part to play as Gjedde, IMO.
  23. Your constant biting when Newport are tipped to be outside the top 6 is what is embarrasing, just let it go over your head!
  24. Ignore NWS... his posts are embarrasing. FWIW, I reckon Edin, Sheffield and Glasgow for the bottom 3. Sheffields team stands out as being the weakest... Franc and Hall as a top two is dreadful, both third heatleaders although I suppose there could be a good argument that Franc is a second heatleader. I feel Haines is finished and Jakobsen is nothing special although he always scores well at Newport, then again until 2011 most riders did.
