Speedway Best Pairs
Chris Brown replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in International World of Speedway
I am fully aware of that and you will note the use of the tense in that I said had. It does not change the fact that Tony Millard was lambasted on this very forum for his commentary week after week. He was a absolute stalwart of speedway commentary with many many years experience but made mistakes. These guys are in their first year in the case of Jack Burnicle, although an experienced Motorcycling commentator he is new to speedway (in his first couple of months) so not alarming for him to take time to adjust Really not sure why that makes it an unfortunate comment really Meg, if its that bad don't watch it. As I have just said Jack Burnicle is 2 months into his speedway commentating career, given the guy a chance -
Speedway Best Pairs
Chris Brown replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in International World of Speedway
Constant moaning about the commentary I guess maybe you would prefer that one of the other broadcasters was showing it instead of Eurosport ? Problem is they are the only one so maybe we should be supportive rather than complaining. These guys are relatively new to speedway commentary, Millard, Tatum, Pearson had many years experience and still talk crap half the time if you ask me Give them a break -
After putting the stadium up for rent yesterday, Galliard Homes have dropped their appeal of the refusal for planning permission This feels like huge news but they have proved not to be trusted so far so lets wait and see http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/yourtown/oxford/11202935.Galliard_Homes_drops_its_appeal_to_be_allowed_to_build_homes_on_Oxford_Stadium/

And all of those are somewhat different to calling Ales Dryml, Alice Dribble IMO -

Chris Brown replied to LagutaRacingFan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
But you have not called them the Dribble brothers this time, mind you that is still 3 year old stuff Not sure I understand the correlation to Morten Risager, I hold the same opinion, it's unnecessary but If you believe you are justified because people do it to another rider then blimey that's even worse Yes people take this too seriously but riders deserve respect and not silly childish name calling Yes I have been a good friend on them since they came over in 1999 but actually that is really not relevant Just my view, mind you maybe I have just grown up over the years -

Maybe the playground name calling you descended to was out of order though. Trying to be clever with someones name is the stuff of 3 year olds which I assume you are not Ales is in a 2nd career having damn near died riding speedway so any rider that has been through that or in fact any rider deserves not to be belittled by people on here in my opinion -
Only surprised that you took so long SCB

Lukas has announced his retirement from speedway with immediate effect at the Press Conference today in Czech Republic. I know its something he has been thinking about for a while since the birth of his daughter and it was formally announced today I for one would like to thank him for the entertainment and fun he has given me and many others over the years and hope that working in the family business works out well for him. Without the injuries while he was at the top of his game who knows he may have been able to add to his World Under 21 Title. This of course makes him the only Czech to win a World Title and therefore the most successful Czech speedway rider ever All the best mate in your retirement

Somerset V Peterborough (lc) 11/4/14
Chris Brown replied to maneacat's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Well you have given him 3 or 4 meetings after all !!! Speaking to him on Monday he has been struggling with engines and has tried a few things to get it right There was talk about him getting a hatful for Belle Vue at Peterborough last year, the engine he rode at Peterborough on opening night was the very same engine. As I said he will get it right and hopefully tonight is the start -
Peterborough V Plymouth - 25th March (plc)
Chris Brown replied to bigcatdiary's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
More than 6 races in so I reckon you can probably kiss any chance of that Difficult one because while directly not Horton's fault (is it ever?) it's ultimately his responsibility and the best way to endear yourself to your public is NOT to take the admission money Look forward to seeing the outcome -
Felt so sad this morning when Bryn first relayed the news. Nobby was a genuinely wonderful person who do anything for anyone. You will not find anyone with a bad word about him. I am so proud to have known Nobby for so many years Condolences to the family and rest in peace old chap

Peterborough Panthers 2014
Chris Brown replied to NeilWatson's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Well I rarely come on here but wondered where on earth I was when I read these two words anywhere remotely close to each other. Of course then I read who posted it so that made me feel somewhat less confused and bewildered -
Peterborough Panthers 2014
Chris Brown replied to NeilWatson's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
All he can do is qualify and he of course has done this once and as 1st reserve for last season There are many so called better riders who have not achieved that................actually his qualification record is probably better than Harris, Nicholls and of course he went further in the qualification process for the 2013 series than the 2013 World Champion While I understand some of the views, I am pleased to see him back at a track where he will score a lot of points. They have mucked him about royally in the past few seasons -

All I would say on behalf of clubs that are no longer operating is that my opinion is that you should cherish your clubs participation whatever the level but you can be a long time closed -
Problem is that Wightlink are struggling I believe having in recent months asked for people to take voluntary redundancy I guess there isn't £20k kicking around

Seem to remember it was Paul Hurry who brought him over or at least introduced Oxford to him Always felt a bit strange at the time because as Rob said I never understood a word he said

British Speedway Promoters Meeting
Chris Brown replied to dantodan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Geeps I am going to agree with Shovvy. This rule will bring money to up and coming riders who would not have had it without this rule. It normally goes to an army of Aussies et al so maybe it's a long term view that has to be taken here -
British Speedway Promoters Meeting
Chris Brown replied to dantodan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Exactly and remember the likes of Carl Stonehewer, Joe Screen, Sean Wilson and others were nowhere near good enough for the British League at that time but can anyone say riding in the top league did not speed up their progress ? Personally I would love to see the likes of Robert Lambert, Adam Ellis riding in every league they can, all 3 would be great if it aids their development. Instead in the past we have the likes of Lasse Bjerre, Ludvig Lindgreand and most of the Aussies riding in more than one league so let's get the young British riders riding in every league No disrespect but this rule should not see the Jon Armstrong's of this world benefiting, let's hope it's the riders for the future that are the beneficiaries Just one final thought. The promoters are ridiculed for their annual shuffling of the Titanic's deck chairs but give them credit where it's due. Most on here would do nothing and then moan when their club closed because of spiralling costs Most of the money in the sport is being taken by overseas riders who come over, make a great living, run for the hills when meetings like the ELRC or Ben Fund comes around and then a fortune again from bloody testimonials and seemingly that is a model fans are happy with Some riders have testimonials and that is the last we see if them ! Get behind what is for once a positive step -
British Speedway Promoters Meeting
Chris Brown replied to dantodan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Well I say good. British Speedway cannot afford and Elite League and cannot afford to carry on as it was. OK we can argue whether the approach is right or wrong but SOMETHING had to happen and at least the current crop of promoters have done something about it. If Rick Frost and his millions cannot keep Peterborough going then which club would be next I for once say well done to the promoters for at least recognise change is needed and having a go at making change As for the continual whining its not Elite any more, who cares what its called, change the name, at least some cost cutting means we will have level of high end class racing in the UK in the future -
Team Gb - Middlo Quits!
Chris Brown replied to Barry The Cat's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I would like to see a National Manager that shows some commitment to British riders and support their development. Middleditch as a club manager clearly does nothing to promote Bristish riders at his own club and therefore for me was the wrong bloke for the job. I do not buy the fact that he does not pick the team or at least have some influence over team selection at Poole. After all we keep being told he is the best person at it Maybe he could have encouraged 2nd halfs at Poole, get young riders to benefit from his ability to manage speedway riders If he is not trusted to influence the Poole side then let's not let him loose on the National side Better off without him for, just an opinion though -
The first Oxford one is still owned by Allen Trump as far as I know who was peddling it for sale in the Speedway Star. The second one went to Kings Lynn but not sure they use that fence anymore I guess IOW's problem is that the fence they will need is just so much bigger than many other tracks, say £20k for a fence, I suspect £30k for the IOW due to the number of panels required Nobody would dispute Air Fences are the way forward but this rule will end up closing clubs and I am not sure that was what is was designed to do
