  1. Is Martin the geezer who leaps the fence everytime the fence is demolished? Rolls his sleeves up, gets stuck in, then re-joins his mates on the second bend? Remarkable character.
  2. KKS won't know what the Beano is E I Addio... Ole Olsen was very smooth as was Ivan Mauger. Martin Ashby also had a relaxed, neat style. And a more up to date contemporary rider has to be Peter Karlsson. Great to watch and super smooth.
  3. Yep, me too sidders. Birksy has something about him. Expect a big performance from him soon.
  4. Lets hope he doesn't 'loose' it.....or even lose it....sorry Blu, couldn't resist it...
  5. One way of having two British riders in the teams would be to include 2 full reserve races instead of the usual one in heat 2, maybe another one....a heat 16 if you like. A decider....the emphasis would be on the 4 Brits to clinch the points....
  6. Going back to Blackbird Road Hunter, I visited once in the 70's and you guys gave the Robins a real thumping. I seem to recall as Sidders says, the track being very fair. But from memory it was similar to Blunsdon. Am I right in thinking that? Memory fades as years go past! Incidentally, when you think back, it was amazing how many tracks were of a bigger shape/size in the 70's. I can think of Hyde Road, Blackbird Road, Blunsdon, The Shay, Owlerton, White City Saddlebow Road and The County Ground at Exeter. The others such as Waterden Road, Brandon and Smallmead were also a fair size. Plough Lane was the only small track in those days that I can think of anyway.
  7. Bernard Julian was a bit on the portly side. Norman Strachan was both small in stature and a bit tubby.
  8. Saw the Ashby/Wilson race at Brandon. Agree that it was the best match race I have seen. Martin was just too nice though. Always a gentleman on and off track, but it cost him a world final place that day.
  9. Not this year Taylorj. The only side that can beat the Rebels this season will be Edinburgh.
  10. Didn't you guys have Graham Plant in that side as well?
  11. He was pulled up for the same thing at Swindon last week Oldtimer. Not sure why he feels the need to do it as he is a naturally gifted 'gater'.
  12. No Barker and no Doyle would always stop me from travelling from Wiltshire. I always try to ensure the line ups at least contain the teams best riders before I make the trip.
  13. Red light spells danger by Billy Ocean. An excellent song, but does remind me of the eerie silence in a speedway stadium as the crowd watches in anticipation that a rider is ok after a fall.....
  14. You must be having a laugh! Are you talking about the same guy who only a couple of weeks ago was thrown head first over the safety fence, injuring his wrist, before appearing later in the meeting gaining vital points for the already depleted Rebels side? Davies is an awesome racer, tries his guts out and has steadily improved this season.
  15. Heavy defeat coming up for the Devils especially without Mikkel Bech Jensen.
  16. We can't but help being sentimentally attached to the back straight bogs at Swindon......they are legendary and part of the very fabric of our clapped out stadium. Tracing paper for bog roll, the stench of pi**, and plagued by Wood lice......
  17. I will have to give you a shout when i'm next there then!
  18. Have always been impressed with Woffinden when riding at Blunsdon. He has natural balance and ability on a speedway machine. I am relieved to hear he is portraying a more mature character of late. I do recall some rather embarrassing interviews with him on Sky a few years back.
  19. Still positive Sid. See Peterborough v Swindon post.
