  1. I loved my trips to the Shay. It did seem like travelling to the other side of the world from the south of England though! Spectacular racing on a unique track. Grey shale as well! Great days.
  2. As a staunch Swindon fan, please not Rosco. He needs to learn some etiquette and not to make embarrassing comments on TV. He is a motivator for sure, but you need more than that to manage a team. The trouble is, we simply do not have the firepower in this country. Peter Adams is a fine choice, but even he won't be successful. Currently we have Woffinden who can win races and pretty much no one else. The cupboard is bare and although we have the odd youngster coming through, Lambert, and to a much lesser extent, Gerrity, the future is definitely not bright. We will struggle to compete with the USA, Finland and such like i'm afraid.
  3. Doyley will be at Swindon next season. As I see it, that just means the rest of the side steps up one place. Nick to number one, Josh to number five and Alex to number three. Kyle and Charles in the engine room. The reserves are anyone's guess at the moment.
  4. Really? What makes you think that? Nick got to grips with the Somerset track this year (he has always said it wasn't one of his best tracks). Rebels number one in 2014 I reckon.
  5. Doyley is nailed on Swindon bound. The Rebels need to keep the core of this years side bar Jason. Nick, Josh, Kyle, Alex and Wrighty all have improvement in them. Those guys alone make a formidable top 5.
  6. I have no doubt they would increase their attendances Pirate Nick, but certainly the outgoings would increase.
  7. I actually phoned Martin Ashby at his home address once! He went through the scorers with me! Agree with all that has been said, well done to you all and thanks for your commitment.
  8. Dare I say it, but this is a huge risk to run this meeting tonight. Of course I am hoping its on and the Rebels clinch the title they so richly deserve, but it would be such a shame to run it whilst dodging showers, or on a track that can't do this history making meeting justice. Fingers crossed that it stays dry from here and the famous Highbridge wind blows strongly across from the M5!
  9. Highbridge is directly in the line of fire from the storm tonight. Its times like these I bet the management are glad they haven't yet invested in covered stands!
  10. The Highbridge weather is pretty difficult to judge at the best of times. Can you imagine the quandary the track Curator must be in at the moment! Heaven knows, a match was called off in warm summer sunshine not too long ago. Personally, I think the match should be called off now with a view to re-staging on Wednesday (if that is at all possible) to save the Edinburgh fans the time/trouble/expense. My prediction for the match is a resounding win for the Rebels. They are very solid throughout at home, and as dontforgetthefueltapsbruv says, Alex Davies is a fourth heat leader at home.
  11. Well said yerropes, a sensible post as ever. Agreed blu. Well said.
  12. Parking is a quid in a field directly outside the stadium Mr sensible. Reasonable food inside (the gates open nice and early at 6pm so plenty of time for scoff! If you are tempted by some Somerset scrumpy, check out Rich's scrumpy farm adjacent to the stadium. All sign posted and well worth a visit!
  13. Ease up fellas. He's a speedway fan and he has opinions. So be it if they differ from anyone else's. Don't think personal insults are the way forward either. Just my opinion of course....
  14. You should come and see the toilet facilities at Swindon. An Elite league club with toilets that hark back to the 1950's....shocking way of treating your customers...
  15. Blimey, a bit doom and gloom for you Geordie boys (or mackems in TWK's case) isn't it?? I saw Newcastle twice this season and they have a team of triers and racers. Robbo typifies their spirit. Worrall and Tulley are excellent to watch and even Schramm gives it his all. Cheer up for goodness sake. See you at Somerset next year...i'll buy you a scrumpy!
  16. You will be supporting two clubs with gold medals this year....
  17. There's 2014 threads everywhere at the moment Starman2006....including your own team Poole who still have plenty to do!
  18. Doyley will be full time at Swindon next season I reckon. This means Josh and Nick will lead the side whilst doubling up with Poole and Swindon respectively. The second strings will be Alex and Kyle. I would be surprised if both Alex and Kyle don't kick on from this season. Good signs for the future for the Rebels.
  19. If ever there was a reminder that we are on than the cusp of winter it was tonight at the OTA. It was bitter on the back straight with the wind whipping in from the M5! A smaller than average crowd tonight witnessed a combative Newcastle side, especially in the early heats. A major shock in heat 1 with Doyley getting 'stuck in traffic' and unable to pass Lewis Kerr who stuck rigidly to the white line in a fine ride, whilst Worrall was gone in the distance. Gracionek's engine failure whilst leading heat 7 kept the scores tight and Newman's off night looked like the writing was on the wall for the Rebels. However, this team definitely ride for each other. From heat 10 onwards, I lost count of the amount of times the Rebels riders looked for each other. Doyley, Morris, Davies, Josh and match winner Wright team rode superbly. To think that Davies has come in for some criticism from some Somerset fans amazes me. He is a born racer. The familiar hunched style, he races for every single point. He knows the line his partner is taking and he rides for the team. Perfect for the engine room of the team. Wright has proved an astute signing and really looks the part. Newcastle to their credit, were up for this. Worrall looked classy early on before fading slightly. Lindgren was inconsistent and Tully just couldn't get off the starts, although he did look quick enough. The Diamonds are definitely weakened without Robson and in my opinion will not have enough to go through now. Track was slick tonight and not as much passing as normal. For the concerned Newcastle fans, Greenwood definitely had 3 rides and looked well off the pace. A couple of amusing things. The war cry for Rebels fans.... most seemed to join in with gusto, and the slippery grass banks on the back straight, which saw numerous people slip over (none were hurt fortunately) but one guy took a pearler but managed to keep his pint of cider upright!! Lots of cheers and slaps on the back from his mates! Priorities, priorities! Can't see anyone stopping this Rebels side, their big guns are just too powerful and are all firing at the same time.
  20. The shape of the track is also what makes it such good viewing. It's a smaller version of the East of England Showground. Fast, with varying racing lines. Certainly a circuit for the brave! The Rebels have that in abundance in their side this year. The shape of the track is also what makes it such good viewing. It's a smaller version of the East of England Showground. 21. Not so sure you and I have been watching the same speedway at the OTA Lord Skid. The racing has been superb in the matches I have attended this season. Many different racing lines and many fantastic passes. The regular Rebels fans will probably say the racing isn't as good as it was, but I for one haven't noticed any difference in the years I have been coming. Doyley, Nick Morris, Kyle Newman and Alex Davies have been scintillating to watch this year on what I still say is the best track in England.
