Still stands on the Abbey terraces every week. Would love to hear his views on current riders/pay/GP's etc.

Which Riders Will Miss Out?
EnglishRoundabout replied to skoobie's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
He spent almost a season at Swindon TWK, was real trier. Popular with the fans because of his efforts and always seemed to be 'in the mix'. Awful gater mind! -
Even the most inspirational and motivational team manager cannot prevent riders performing poorly if their machinery is not up to scratch. Rossiter is touted as one of the more inspirational managers, yet in 2007 he had easily the best and most talented team in the Elite league, but at the end of the season the Robins were simply outgunned, out fought and out ridden by Coventry in all three competitions.

Kurtz looked decent at Plymouth and will only improve. Have a feeling the OTA is where he will thrive. Most Aussies do....

Can't disagree with that Najjer.

Who Was The Most Frustrating Rider?
EnglishRoundabout replied to Ommer Mon's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Bobby McNeil. I thought Swindon had signed the key to success when they bagged him. Numerous clubs were after his signature, but he chose the Robins in 77 I think. Two desperately disappointing seasons, littered with poor scores (some good ones) and injuries from falls caused only by himself. -
Certainly last year he was. Remains to be seen this year, although unlike quite few others on here, I actually quite like the look of the side. A good mixture of youth and experience. The young Aussie will be an absolute treat to watch around the OTA I reckon.
-
With 5 of the championship winning team missing this year, there must be one hell of a lot of faith. Hope you are right.
-
Is it really about Garry May Starman? I'm not so sure.
-
How fortunate you were pandorum to watch speedway at the Shay. I visited two or three times. Awesome track and totally unique in shape/banking.
-
Somerset probably see Proctor as more of a rock steady number one and like for like replacement for Doyle rather than Nick who will need another season before he reaches those heady heights. Shame there is no Nick, Alex, Doyley or Kyle though. A major chunk of the title winning team gone.
-
Interesting that Terry Betts doesn't make a lot of peoples choices. Moreover, the controversial Kenny Carter doesn't even get a sniff!

Riders Who Draw In The Crowds
EnglishRoundabout replied to ColinMills's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Didn't you like his sideburns? -
Yes Lewy I will be down for the odd appearance. Pleased you guys have re-signed Ben Barker and Newman is an astute signing too. Great little track, decent facilities and friendly folk too.
-
There will be a scramble for young Nick's signature if the rumours are true about visas not being obtained. He would be box office at SBA. On a selfish note, the OTA is that bit closer for me though!
-
Releasing two promising riders like Newman and Davies was nonsensical. They will have a field day at the OTA this year.....

Rosco Team Gb Boss
EnglishRoundabout replied to hagonshocker's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Have to agree Sid. I don't share the optimism of others around the likes of Bridger, Barker and King. Simply not good enough and would be mullered at international level. Cooke, Worrall, Lambert, Gerrity......the Jury is out, but lets take a reality pill here. They are nowhere near the class of the Danes and Poles of similar age. Its going to be a decade at least before we are anywhere near the top again. And that will only happen if there is a radical change in outlook and attitude. -
Rosco Team Gb Boss
EnglishRoundabout replied to hagonshocker's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Did I say that? For the record, I reckon we would still struggle to beat the USA. -
Rosco Team Gb Boss
EnglishRoundabout replied to hagonshocker's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
As others have said, no matter who the manager it won't improve our chances. unfortunately Woffinden and to a lesser extent Harris, we are simply no match for Poland, Australia, or Sweden, and won't be for the next decade at least. Sure, Rosco will inject some passion and desire, but that won't be enough. Rosco has done ok for a guy who probably only ever saw himself as a rider, and certainly not managerial material, and now finds himself at the summit of a speedway managers career. That, I admire him for. He has however, a thankless task ahead. Blu and Steve0 are Scots Orlovski....... -
That would be incredibly short sighted of them if they took that attitude Crazy. It wasn't Somerset's fault. Circumstances have driven Nick to the decision he has made. (which in my opinion for what it's worth was hasty and wrong). I share the concern of other Rebels fans regarding the make up of the 2014 side. It will be a long time before another team is assembled that is full to the brim of racers and entertainers like Somerset 2013.
