What a shame and not for the want of a lot of hard work by Alex Harkess amongst others. Mainly down to pay rates, I gather, as it had been decided which teams riders would represent, based upon either their country of origin or the team they had been signed to the longest. To even up team strengths, the British teams could have dropped their 6 and 7 and replaced them with other club assets - in Poole's case eg Lindback and Walesek. For Swindon, not sure, as they don't seem to do assets!! Anyway all a bit academic now, but an even bigger disaster for retaining the Sky contract!!!!

There's no issue with TV or sponsors - other than in the UK, which has the worst support of the leading speedway nations!! New rounds coming on stream and the best field of riders for some time. All they need to do now is find a better TV company/audience in the UK and maybe consider running it at a different time or a different day?!

I think they probably had 2nd thoughts as soon as the Good Friday fixtures were agreed!!

I think that was actually what Middlo said to the Echo reporter, but it was misquoted!!!

I wonder why the news reporter didn't ring Matt Ford, the Club owner, in the first instance?? After all it wasn,t anything that happened on the track or as part of the Team GB set-up, or was anything directly to do with Middlo. If the question from the reporter went something along the lines of "What do you think about DW being arrested in the early hours riding his bike in a local park?" then Middlo's comments could well have been similar to those attributed to him?! Especially if he wasn't aware of everything said in court at that time?!

Any monies paid to the 'tracks' - without knowing who the other 4 tracks were - wouldn't necessarily go to the speedway promoters!! Promoters might also lose some revenue from fans attending the series and not affording to attend the weekly team match. So I can quite understand the 'nervousness' of existing promoters. In a period of recession, with lots of (all?) promoters losing money last season maybe thats why the objections were so great.

Whats a 'sheepskin car car'?? Whilst I tend to agree about 'Pro' league speedway, I think speedway will continue - it will just regroup and (hopefully) operate within realistic finances until the economy gets positive again. How that image is promoted will be key to retaining or getting new audiences.

The 'conviction'or punishment was a fine for 'fleeing the police' - a standard minimum $5500. He was also disqualified for 2 years for offence to do with uninsured vehicle and no licence, Whilst he admitted to puffing a spliff and being pissed, that was not what he was 'convicted'/punished for! However stupid he was, he is now in the UK!

...and wasn't prosecuted or convicted for it!!
