  1. 2 home meetings in 4 days, now only 2 for the remainder of April and May! With 5 away meetings coming up those Robins aint gonna be able to get off the bottom! Would like to see one big league of 18 and more regular racing. With the 2 big crowds so far against Belle Vue and Poole, need to keep the casual fan interested. One Thursday meeting in five not enough. Although they have lost about a third of their fan base since the Leigh Adams days and with the new stadium farce and ever-weakening line-ups the three meetings this year has seen decent attendances. Need some good weather this summer to keep them coming. If all clubs promoted as well as the Isle of Wight there would be more fans attending.
  2. Nothing to choose between the top 2 of Poole and Belle Vue, Belle Vue winning by 2 points and Poole drawing at Blunsdon, although Fricke the Aces number 1 didn't do any better than KK. Klindt is the best reserve in league. Great to see 2 big crowds of over 2000 at Blunsdon, although car park was full last night, would have got a few hundred more if the weather had been ok. With rain falling thought they would have rushed the meeting through a bit quicker, nearly 2 hours. Heavy rain just after heat 15. Good to see so many nippers there with their free Easter eggs, although no victory laps, and no fan/rider interaction. Just a couple of hundred left for joint victory parade.
  3. They weren't lucky, draw was fair result, was some good racing. Great advert for league speedway.
  4. Superb meeting, big crowd, rain just held off before end. Man of the match won by David Bellego, sublime fourth to first move. Hansi did well, and Morra unlucky. Adam and KK weak links. If only all speedway matches were like this, great entertainment, draw was fair result. Swindon 2 defeats, 1 draw now in league, and 2 Ko Cup wins.
  5. Could be showers later, most of it hopefully north of Swindon.
  6. Shouldn't be, the bookies would have got it well wrong, Belle Vue and Poole should be well in front of the other 6, and Swindon wont be bottom. Hundreds in there at the moment then I realised it was a market and came away again !
  7. Like the few that wrote everyone off except Doyley before a wheel was turned. Morra is the top boy at the moment and BWD Bellego Ellis Grondal Zac and Doyley can only get better. With Rosco as boss no way will Robins get relegated.
  8. Top v bottom...Hope there will be nothing to choose between the 8 clubs throughout the season. Morra superb start and the other 6 will keep improving. Swindon staying bottom yer avin a giraffe!
  9. Should be a close one against the Knobs. Bumper crowd 2000 plus as usual, hopefully weather will be ok. Morra must be about top rider in GB at present. BWD and Bellego going really well. Poole not the same without the Turbo Twins. Will go 48-42 to the Moonrakers.
  10. Well done Robins...all square after heat 12, then 3 Swindon 5-1s. Great score from Morra again, top rider again. How did crowd compare with last week? Bring on The Pirates.
  11. Can't afford for me and the missus to go tonight and Sunday so we chose the Poole meeting on Sunday. The big gap is probably due to thinking they would be in the new stadium. Don't remember gaps years ago in the days of 18 team leagues.
  12. Poole to Coventry,up to Southampton, then A34 Newbury to Oxford, then M40 to Coventry.
  13. After tonight 4 consecutive Thursdays without a Robins match. People may lose interest. Need regular meetings.
  14. As Orlovski and shocker said, just follow the crowds. Would definitely take torch.
  15. Upton Park was the place to go for entertainment in London in the 60s, had lots of players with surnames beginning with B. Saw some good games there. Watched speedway at New Cross Ackney West Am Wimbledon before moving to Swindon. The fans at Blunsdon were more passionate and bigger crowds than in the capital. 1970 was the year the M4 opened, and unfortunately the Lokeren tragedy which was the end of Speedway at Custom House. The Shabbey Abbey hasn't changed a lot in 47 years, and don't know if we will ever get a new stadium.
  16. Same happened last two weeks at both Sainsburys and Tesco Metro. Will get mine at track tonight although no meeting on half of Thursdays this season
  17. Just found Speedway Researcher on www.british-speedway website, excellent as well. He has a desk in the old souvenir shop on first bend at The Abbey.
  18. First game 1962 a draw with Cardiff, then a regular from 1966, tube from souf London on my own at the age of 10, before moving to Swindon, and getting a train up in the 70s to watch Liam Brady save them from relegation. You didn't need a season ticket, just turned up and paid at the turnstile. Pie and mash at Chapel Market then few jars at The Arsenal Tavern. The 60s and 70s were barren times apart from the 71 Double and couple of cups. In the Adver BWD column today was saying Doyley very unhappy with new tyre regs. Will go 49-41 to the Robins.
  19. True used to love standing on the North Bank from 66-86. Did stadium tour with Charlie George last year, great character. Haven't won much since they've been at Emirates over 10 years now. Good luck with the move, they speak funny up there. Where's nearest pie shop?
  20. Add Nigel Booey and Bettsy, nothing to choose between the seven. Would be a great team.
  21. Bellego, Wilson Dean, and Morra is on fire. Doyley not quite up to his usual standard yet.
  22. Still remember that, 1970 I was 14 then, West Ham never recovered from the tragedy, was the Man U Munich equivalent.Colin seriously injured and never rode again, but six people tragically lost their lives.
  23. His best year was 1967 when he was in the World Final, London Riders champion, and also rode for England in World Team Cup, with Wilson, Briggs, Mauger, Boocock. Had brief spell at Swindon, and knew Broady from Rye House home town of Hoddesdon, Herts. Broady still attends Robins meetings. Will have to have a longer chat with him at Swindon on Thursday, nice bloke.
  24. Perhaps you can make it next time, i'm one of the few Arsenal supporting, pie and mash eating cockneys amongst the west-country crowd at Blunsdon, although the local delicacy Lardy cake ain't bad, washed down with a cider. There's quite a few clowns at Blunsdon so if you can't beat em join em.
  25. If you see a huge old man who is not bald wearing a red bowler hat, pink chinos, and a red and white striped blazer, carrying a red walking stick, come and say hello sid.
