  1. Looks like a 3-rider crash at Rybnik in heat 5, now a break due to rain - now meeting called off
  2. Judging by the anger coming out of Scunthorpe in this week's Speedway Star, yes! (Tai, their ex-star, will ride at the Somerset Test rather than for Rye House at Scunny the same night)
  3. Yesterday's Piraterna-Lejonen details are at http://www.speedway.nu/2008/ReportNY.asp?elit.GE
  4. Really? Interesting move, since he will probably be the youngest rider in the team! But he is certainly mature beyond his years, and it shows the faith that the authorities have in him. Both countries have some exciting young talent, should be a great series. In the past, EL fans haven't supported meetings like this too well when the top riders aren't there. I think these meetings may get better crowds if held on PL tracks? Just my opinion P.S Apparently this really is ENGLAND v Australia, not Great Britain
  5. Hope Jan Staechmann won't mind, but he posted this to another group: Result of tonight’s 2nd leg of the Danish Championship, held in front of a big crowd at Outrup. Points amalgamated over the two rounds. 1. Nicki Pedersen 14+14+3 = 31 2. Hans Andersen 14+14+1 = 28 3. Niels K Iversen 12+12+2 = 26 4. Kenneth Bjerre 11+11+0 = 22 5. Mads Korneliussen 11+11 = 22 6. Nicolai Klindt 9+9 = 18 7. Patrick Hougaard 8+9 = 17 8. Jesper B Monberg 9+8 = 17 9. Charlie Gjedde 9+6 = 15 10. Henning Bager 7+5 = 12 11. Claus Vissing 4+8 = 12 12. Ulrich Østergaard 3+6 = 9 13. Leon Madsen 5+2 = 7 14. Dannie Søderholm 3+2 = 5 15. Klaus Jakobsen 1+2 = 3 16. Peter Juul Larsen 0+2 = 2 17. Henrik Møller 0+0 = 0 Bjarne Pedersen was injured in round 1, and withdrew with a knee injury from the 2nd leg. Best wishes Jan
  6. Zorro seemed to be upset by Sajfutdinov in ht.7, can't work out why

  8. There was an obituary in Speedway News June 11 1938. Basically confirms what you write, but dosen't specify the town where he crashed. He had been team manager of Johnnie Hoskins' Div.2 track at Newcastle. Before coming to England in 1928 he had crashed at Newcastle, NSW and been unconscious for 23 days. The article mentions his love of the "Indian" bikes.
  9. I think it was John Louis' spare bike that was found behind the hot-dog stand
  10. I'd be surprised if more than 2 of those names were part of a SUCCESSFUL GB team in 5 years time, but I hope I'm wrong! And there seems to be a dearth of under-16 riders in the UK now
  11. UK Speedway is so desperate for talented young riders at the moment that I don't think it matters whether they are black, white, or yellow with green dots. Just find some promising riders, because the future of British speedway is looking decidedly dodgy at the moment!
  12. KevH, Lee got 1 full (v Berwick) and 1 paid (v Somerset) in 2002 both at home. None away.
  13. Agreed, best League match I've seen this season! Beautifully prepared track, multiple racing lines, and passing galore.
  14. parsloes, Buzz at Sheffield 1994 Total 4 matches , 12+3 from 16 rides, CMA 3.75 1 match was 4th Aug Sheffield v Swindon (BL2) 2+1 from 3 rides Sorry, can't help with others! He also rode for Belle Vue, Coventry, & Middlesbrough that year
  15. OK, so we are out of the World Cup. Not a great disaster. Why can't we just admit that we lost because Poland and Sweden have better riders? Fact is GB do not have a strong team at present, but there are plenty of young talented riders around. Give it 3 or 4 years, and I think we will be back in the top 4 nations again. Great thing about tonight was that the boys were up for it - which they certainly weren't on Monday.
  16. Agreed, Kosciecha v Crumpy 3 times, and the Pole wins 2 of them ... never seen him ride so well before! Thanks again, tarabanko.
  17. Since the Cardiff track resembles a ploughed field by heat 10 on the Saturday, it would only be of use as a Moto Cross circuit by Sunday. And just think how much higher the hotel owners could raise their prices!
  18. I would think the Danes would win at Coventry if they choose to. Not much opposition, after all. Or maybe they will choose to come second in order to guarantee a good crowd at Vojens for the race-off? Be more sensible to seed the hosting nation of the race-off and final to the race-off itself, I think. I know that would mean that they wouldn't race outside their own country that year, but I don't think that makes much difference to the top riders. Maybe Sweden might show some interest in staging the Finals if that was the case?
  19. Sopcast seems to be offline more often than online when speedway is scheduled. Very unreliable.
  20. If anyone has Backtrack issue 8, it contains a 2-page interview with George Hunter by Richard Bott in 1998, a year before George died of cancer. George said riders were much harder in his day, and was very critical of modern riders ... "some of them fall off if you breathe on them. They must have Equity cards the way they do the 'dying swan' bit" He was a great Mark Loram fan, though (aren't we all?!)
  21. See messages above! Thanks, Peter, for your help. much appreciated.
  22. Also 1960-64 Edinburgh (Provincial League)
  23. Peter, the live TV asks for a user name and password, plus mentions Microsoft X 8.1 (whatever that is!) Can you help? Thanks
  24. Leszno-Gorzow finishes 45-45! Terrific comeback by Gorzow after being 6 points down, thanks to some vintage Gollob and another great display from Thomas H Jonasson, who is defintely making good progress this year. Great last heat as Adams takes Gollob, and Hampel gets 3rd to secure the home team a draw. Most enjoyable meeting - thank you Sopcast! Dons rule OK?
