  1. Norbold, the only mention I have seen of the 7 April meeting was in "Motor Cycling" dated 11 April 1928. Unfortunately I don't have a copy of that report, but I kept the following details: Easter Saturday 7.4.28 King's Oak, High Beech Meeting no.2. Track re-designed. 250cc N Anderson (Dunelt), A.N Other (New Imperial) 350cc Gus Kuhn (Calthorpe), B Bragg (Coventry Eagle), Colin Watson (New Imperial) 500cc Colin Watson, Reg F Pointer (Ariel), Jimmy Stevens (Norton) Sidecars S O Fraser (OK-Supreme) There is no mention of this meeting in "The Motor Cycle", "Speedway News", or "Auto" The winner of the eBay auction for the programme may be able to tell us more if the results are filled in, but that won't be me, as I expect it to get a bit too pricey!
  2. So that's Cardiff, Copenhagen, Gelsenkirchen, and ... Brighton?
  3. Quotes by Ole Olsen last week about the Veltins Arena: "When it's finished, this will be a perfect speedway track." "We want to make sure we provide the riders with a surface that they can ride to their limits and provide a night of spectacular racing." " ...by the end of Sunday, you wouldn't even know that we had been here…apart from the memory of a fantastic night of racing." What a failure, Olsen! Perhaps you'd like to apologise to us all? The track was rubbish, the stadium organisation was rubbish, and the ref wasn't too good either! Speedway apart, it was still a great trip - but I certainly won't be going back to Gelsenkirchen next year.
  4. Scorecard at http://www.speedway.org/ then go to Ergebnis-Archiv Speedway GP's 2007 13.10 - GP11 Gelsenkirchen

  6. Two conflicting organisations in South Africa. The "SSRC" South African National Championship has had 2 rounds so far this year. Not sure if or when others are scheduled: Sun 27.05 Walkerville : SSRC SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP - Round 1 Brendan Coughlan 15, Martin Bekker 9, Mike Russell 9, Mac Magill 7, Bobby Devine 6, Deon Prinsloo 5. 7. Problem is that it's the wrong side of Germany for the Poles to get to easily. But it'll still be a bigger crowd than Eskilstuna, Prague, Krsko, Daugavpils, Malilla, Lonigo ....
  8. Thanks for that, much appreciated, nice to know what to expect on Saturday. By the way - there is not much wrong with your English!
  9. Yeah, Roynon's a tiger , reserve at Rye House, but would be a heatleader at a couple of teams. Pleased to see Danny did OK, his first European meeting as far as I know. Glanz is quite inexperienced, though he rode in a European U-19 Champ qualifier early this season. Yes, I'll be with all the "old" TP faces at Gelsenkirchen, hope to see you there. Hope the crowd won't be lost in that fairly big stadium!
  10. Thanks for that, iris123. Not often Germany win a meeting so convincingly! Bridger a bit disappointing for England, but great experience for Conference League riders Betson and Glanz. Will you be in Gelsenkirchen?

  12. Well, Betson is ex-Wimbledon (say no more, pure talent, obviously!) while Roynon is possibly the classiest reserve in the Premier League. Don't know much about Glanz (Peter's lad) but Bridger is entertaining, and quite good if you can stop him doing wheelies before his races. I hope you are going to this meeting, iris123, 'cos I need the details for my website, please! P.S In the Swedish team, I've never heard of Tony Olsen OR Per Olaf Larsen!! Also, I thought that this was a U-21 match - Niklas Klingberg hasn't got a nipper of the same name, has he?
  13. Just want to thank the guys at Speedway Star for a terrific preview of this meeting in this weeks' issue, listing all the teams, ..... Oh. Sorry. IT DOSEN'T GET A MENTION! (apart from in the International fixture list) C***-up at Speedway Star!
  14. I think the fact that Travel Plus have nearly 200 going to Bydgoszcz and Ostrow next weekend and staying a 5-star Sheraton Hotel says it all!
  15. Last night, Krzysztof Kasprzak missed a match for Lakeside at Eastbourne because he allegedly suffered concussion in a practice session in Poland on Friday. I can't find any mention of this on any Polish website - can any of our Polish friends help?
  16. Well, he scored 5+2 in 4 rides for Ipswich at HOME to Rayleigh on July 21, 1964 And then 3+1 from 4 for Weymouth at Rayleigh on Aug 1, 1964 He dosen't seem to have ridden after that, unless it was a second half. Mind you, he would have been 53 by then!
  17. I notice that on Wal's headstone it says "Wandering Wal of the Raceways. Speedway Rider 1933-64" I have just found reference (in Auto May 15, 1931), to Wal Morton winning a Junior Qualifying Race on 8 May 1931 at Hall Green, Birmingham. Thus his career is extended to an amazing 34 years!
  18. Can someone tell me where the Kaparna match was raced? Nice to see that they actually won a match AND got a decent crowd! Thanks
  19. Well, I think this is mostly right, but there is always one champion to disprove the theory - Mark Loram is a "nice guy", and also one of the greatest "racers" I have ever seen. So you do not HAVE to be an animal to win!
  20. Yep, Adams, Richardson, and Ulamek all due to ride for Swindon on Thursday! Pity Czestochowa couldn't race the match on Sunday, instead of the European Junior Final
