  1. Leicester did make contact with him and requested his measurements. He was apparently furious when he found out that they weren’t for kevlars but were for the mascot costume.
  2. There are some valid arguments on this thread for retaining Connor Mountain. Despite what those involved in the running of the sport might claim though, there is no investment in the future, it’s only about doing the best you can for your club for the upcoming season. Short sighted maybe, but when tracks are closing faster than new ones appearing it’s understandable. It’s not even about a full season because clubs will have tapped up riders who haven’t currently got a British commitment, ready for when the domestic revolving door starts from May onwards.
  3. We are obsessed with averages for team building in this country, but just how important is it? Take it to the extreme and let a team sign any seven riders of their choice. This will be dictated almost entirely by their budget based on expected average attendances, unlike the Poles who attract significant domestic sponsorship. Pushing the boat out and risking recovering money by attracting more spectators seems to be a tried and tested strategy failure. At what expenditure lengths would a team go to with regard to chasing silverware? The bottom line has to be that the prize for winning a UK domestic speedway title is peanuts so where is the justification logic in a heavy financial outlay? On this basis, why not just let a team build to its financial budget instead of everyone being hoodwinked into thinking that team average totals are the be and end all and a sport leveller. My honest opinion is that it would not make a massive difference to comparative team strengths in the apparent absence of a rider pay structure within in the sport.
  4. Better off with Lord Lucan. More attractive average and more reliable.
  5. My only recollection of Finn Jensen was him consistently trapping first and being last within a lap or two!
  6. Connor Mountain to be confirmed soon (word from the inside).
  7. A few seniors at Peterborough didn’t pay anything to get in for the last two seasons apparently. Their excuse? They were riding for the Panthers!
  8. Team continuity is rare in this sport today and the fact that Dan is a local lad, it is great to have him back. I expect him to boss heat 2 at home and pick up some minor place points elsewhere. Points away are likely to be hard to get, but as young as he is, he can’t expect to be wrapped in cotton wool for too long. Lions fans will have a soft spot for him and if he can punch his weight, he will be key to the team’s achievements next year.
  9. Doyle is first class and remains committed to British Speedway and for that reason he’s not all about money! As he has said many times, riding British tracks (more technical than elsewhere in Europe) makes him a better rider. His fellow Aussie mates have picked up on this when you consider that next seasons Aussie GP riders will all be riding in this country. Despite his high average I think most teams would try and juggle their team building if they thought they could get him to ride for them. Think he will get a good reception when he comes to Leicester with the Witches. We’ll secretly wish he has a stinker on the night, but know it is unlikely!
  10. His brother Kanga is doing okay too. Coming along in leaps and bounds apparently in his homeland.
  11. Pretty sure Ellis Perks did in 2019, with a successful outcome too.
  12. Lawson will be riding for Leicester and they will also use R/R for Harris.......... who will be guesting for Poole.
  13. Sounds good in theory, but too many of the riders doubling up rely on it to make the sport pay.
  14. Last time the Lions moved up it was pure vanity and we simply made up the numbers, signing a few riders on short term deals who were not committed. With the current owner/management set up I think we will see a different mindset and a superior product served up.
  15. Understand what you are saying but it is not necessary the case. A ‘No.1’ may have an average of 0.01 above the next rider in their team. Couple that scenario with the other team and the case for having your best rider at No.1 appears a little weak. Just keep the two lowest average riders at 6 & 7 and let team managers sort the remaining rider order out (as in the good old days). Current heat permutations are geared towards protecting riders which is just an unfortunate reflection of an ability gap in the sport. In my opinion you are there to compete. It’s tough, but if you are dedicated you will stick at it to see how far you will go. I know there is a shortage of riders and some will only become NDL veterans, but ‘protected’ races is it a bit like a football match where only younger players can be tackled by other young players. If you are in the 1 to 7 of a team in whatever league, you should have to deal with it.
  16. Thanks for the re-assurance. Surprised that moderators considered the word (rhyming with chore) in my previous post needed to be replaced with **. No doubt they will (not) advise why this was deemed to be offensive.)
  17. Love the guy but hope he is not our No.1. He’s been everywhere and will be relied upon away. His performances at BP to date have been patchy, but will no doubt be decent once he gets dialled in on his hew home track. A bit concerned about his reputation as a guesting **. Whilst there is no substitute for practice, at his age, recovery periods from any injury can only get longer. Bottom line here though is that he will attract people to BP every week.
  18. Well he would have been if he hadn’t injured himself laughing at the prospect. Four other promoters are now eligible to take an additional vote to cover his absence.
  19. If this is the case, Craig Cook would be an option for the final place. Is he worth a punt? Someone will surely give him an opportunity in this league on a low average?
  20. So when they reconvene, the meeting room might be prepared differently to the practice session then? That could catch could catch some promoters out and affect their decision making.
  21. May lack the necessary clout in heats 13 & 15 if scores were tight.
  22. Two many Cooks spoiled the broth for Lions tonight. Pirates seemed to want it more and deserved to win. Good night/good riddance British Speedway 2022.
