Swindon End Of Era Meeting.
customhouseregular replied to a4poster's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I haven't got over walking out of Custom House for the last time . Have I missed an announcement? -
I was looking at the 1996 qualification system for the 1997 GP series. It seems to me rather more riders got to have a crack at qualification than is now the case. The make up of the final field seemed to be fairer also viz: Top 8 from 1996 series Top 2 from Continental Final Top 2 from Inter-Continental Final Top 4 from GP Challenge Plus the World U-21 Champion Note...NO WILDCARDS but a field of 17. I can't remember how that worked.

18.10.15 Dutch Open Lelystad

It was pretty remote although the new town was being built. We had a unit on a holiday park booked through Olau Line, sailing from Sheerness to Vlissingen. -
18.10.15 Dutch Open Lelystad

My wife and I and our young (at the time) children holidayed in Lelystad in 1983. Not much there then. The next year we went to Middelharnis which was rather nice. We do have rather a soft spot for the Netherlands and Belgian Flanders. It would be good if this meeting was well supported . -

Yes I agree, whoever wins the play-off final is the legitimate winner, but if it is not Poole are they the deserved winners?. -

Why does singing the words make one more respectful than standing. I never sing the words...God save the Queen (save her from what?). Send her victorious (send her where?) It must be one of the worst anthems in the world. If I was Russian, American, German or Italian I would happily sing along to my National Anthem, but standing to ours is respectful enough thank you very much. -
Play Offs Should They Be Scrapped.?
customhouseregular replied to stratton's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Barry Briggs maintains that British speedway went in to decline after 1981 once Wembley was lost to the sport. He felt the old-style World Championship was harder to win but the GP system is fairer. A GP does not have the same cachet as a world Final, hence 40,000 at Cardiff v 92,000 at Wembley. The biggest loss to British speedway in my opinion IS the GP. When I were a lad it was almost obligatory to ride British League if you wanted to become World Champion. Today it pays not to ride in Britain. -

Is there a requirement for people to sing the National Anthem?. I always thought it was respectful just to stand. -

sidney my friend, you, me and a few other boring old farts.dinosaurs.fossils are pi**ing in the wind where the World Championship is concerned, as our views are unworthy of respect...or so certain factions on this forum would have us believe . -

I have just emailed John Shires, sports editor of ITV Calendar News who promised to do a feature on Tai if he wins the title. As it is almost certain Tai will be crowned champion in Torun next Saturday, I have advised John of this and asked him to trail the GP next week. If I get a positive response I will post the transmission date on the forum. -

Likewise cityrebel, Christer and Lokeren are all I can really recall from 1970. I visited all the tracks in 1970 but nothing else really stands out.
