  1. Don't be facetious...who said anything about NP?. To me it was 2 riders too close together going for the same bit of track, leaving Greg with nowhere to go. Also in my opinion if we had another 2 rounds to go, Greg would have his 4th. title.
  2. A while back someone on the forum asked...how good is Greg Hancock. Answer...Very very good indeed. (And no...the crash was not Greg's fault).
  3. Would someone please enlighten me as to who the above two are.
  4. This looks to be a must for my Christmas present. I used to watch John on the Scrambles circuit and then he became one of my favourite Speedway riders.
  5. The same riders race 20 heats each day and the total points scored are carried over to the next round
  6. Google Swindon Life...The Legend Of The Moonrakers.
  7. moxey my friend, I don't know who you are but you are a man after my own heart .
  8. If I can't have Loram you can't have Lindbaeck
  9. You may have a point there Colin. Nigel in his blue leathers and Broadbank in red added a lot of individuality, though I do think team colours look more professional.
  10. Sadly moxey you are probably right. but even if the will was there for fans to attend and the media to get behind it, with the top riders competing in up to 4 leagues and the GP, it would be impossible to stage. Modern speedway has killed the big tournaments.
  11. I quote directly from Norman Jacobs' excellent book. "The summer of 1973 saw British speedway host the daily Mirror International Tournament. It was a competition that captured the imagination of the general public and the national media alike. Seven international teams containing the world's greatest riders were gathered for a mini-league format, which climaxed with a one-off final at Wembley Stadium. It was the nearest the sport had ever come, or indeed ever has, to a football-style World Cup event. Hosts England were joined by Australia, the USSR, Sweden, Poland, New Zealand and a combined Norway/Denmark side for a festival of world-class action that took in 18 British tacks in 19 days. Fans flocked to the meetings in their droves and television and newspapers alike offered the tournament enormous amounts of coverage - little wonder with shale superstars such as Ivan Mauger, Ole Olsen, Ronnie Moore, Zenon Plech, Peter Collins, Anders Michanek and Barry Briggs all playing starring roles." How times have changed and what wouldn't today's fans give for speedway like that today. I was at Wembley for the final which was actually followed by a Great Britain v Rest Of The World match, making a bumper feast of International speedway.
  12. this has the makings of a monty python sketch
  13. Hello Steve from another ex-attendee now living in York. I agree with all of your comments. When West Ham closed I lost interest in league speedway and stopped going to speedway completely in 1985.
  14. That won't happen but Tai and Cook would be good.
  15. Is that the promoters or the new supporters June?.
  16. Speedway fans of all clubs are in the main a great bunch, though in my travels in the 60's the only aggressive fans i ever met, apart from one lady at Newport were Glaswegians. I'm sure though that today's Tigers fans are a lovely group .
