Barry Briggs...wembley And Beyond

Having seen all of Briggo's BLRC wins at Hyde road I thought BLRC stood for Briggo's Latest Riders Championship . -
Video Of The 1981 Wembley World Final
customhouseregular replied to racers and royals's topic in Years Gone By
I have just finished watching this...the first time I have seen the final since being there on the night. I have yet to see a GP to match it for drama and excitement. Barry Briggs maintains the decline in British speedway started from then with the loss of Wembley to the sport. It's hard to argue with that assessment. -

You'll be lucky . I'm still looking for a Los Angeles programme . -
Barry Briggs...wembley And Beyond

Having just finished reading Barry's book i can tell you it is an excellent read. Younger fans who did not see Briggo in action might not enjoy it as much as I did, but everyone who followed his career will thoroughly enjoy it. -
Agreed sidney. Plech, Jancarz and Woryna paved the way for the poles.

The 1961 programme is rarer than rocking horse droppings. I'd love one . -
I echo that...Zenon was, in my opinion the best of the Poles from that era.

Play Offs Should They Be Scrapped.?
customhouseregular replied to stratton's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
At the risk of having "the boring old fart, dinosaur, fossil " epithets thrown my way, may I take you back to 1965. By mid-season West Ham had seemingly nothing left to play for being in the lower reaches of the league. Certainly nobody outside of Custom house gave them a chance of winning anything. Come the end of season they had won the league, the knock-out cup and the London cup. Every match is meaningful if promoters, managers, riders and fans approach them in the right spirit. If anyone says fans will not turn up to support their team if they have no chance of reaching the play-offs, they are not talking about real fans. West Ham United have never fielded a side capable of winning the Premier League, but they have no trouble filling the Boleyn ground every home game. -
Out of interest, what is the start and points money in the GP?.

Play Offs Should They Be Scrapped.?

Yes sidney, they certainly should be scrapped. not only that, the El and Pl should amalgamate to produce a sensible size league with a meaningful fixture list.- 897 replies

I had the 1968 High Beech 40th. Anniversary programme autographed by every rider past and present in attendance. My lovely wife binned it...what would it be worth today?. -
I agree totally...I hate semis, finals and play-offs. top scorer over 20 heats wins in individual meetings. team finishing top of the league wins the league. I refuse to accept the scoring systems used in speedway today are fair or correct.

Los Angeles 1982 Wc Final Programme

I'm still looking . -
If this had actually been run along the lines of a one-off World Final, Hancock and Vaculik would have had a run-off to decide the title. Absolutely ridiculous Laguta can score 7 but win the meeting...bah!.

I was going to make a comment about round rear ends v straight rear ends but there might be kids watching .

At a guess phillipsr you follow a team...yes?. Do you go regularly?. If so and you really support your team you will remember who rode for you in 20, 30, 40 years time. Might I suggest you get a copy of The History Of The World Speedway Championship (2008 I believe). You will learn all about Plechanov, Boocock, Crutcher and many more great riders...including some you may have heard of .
-
I can just see him travelling 12,000 miles for a one-off...not!. Are you serious? So nobody has heard of Igor Plechanov, Nigel Boocock, Brian Crutcher et al?.
