Oh sorry sidney. I thought the GP challenge lost another somewhere.
I think picking GP wildcards is going to be ridiculously tough and IMO the people picking them got it wrong last year although the GP(or PDC as I call it) will never be true until Emil decides to man up and leave the SEC(or the BDO as I call it) like Antonio wants to. Can't wait for this meeting.
Have I missed something or didn't they have the 2 wildcards picked. Kildemand and Zmarzlik? Riders to go through will be Lindback, Madsen and Bomber to pull it off on his home track.
Great idea for a topic with the Brits. Non winners would have Simmo, Mort, Carter, Tatum and Wigg(Longtrack excluded) and both Louis's.
As for champs, Tai ahead of Craven with Loram ahead of Lee in my opinion.
Remember this is just my opinion and I haven't been watching speedway since its birth and only going on some stats, old videos and what I have watched and some like Tommy Knudsen made World Finals for many years and I do not have the same knowledge to know about Parker or Crutcher although I would probably now swap Sigalos for Autrey.
Please don't shoot me down in flames for my picks as I am a sensitive soul and just thought it would be an interesting topic but glad some of you enjoyed it and have posted your own.
Obviously open to debate but feel free to post your own line-up of a World Final of the best riders ever to have never won the World title and who you would have thought would of won this meeting. My list has been compiled not only from what I have seen but also a few statistics as well.
1 Leigh Adams
2 David Jessup
3 Igor Plechanov
4 Zenon Plech
5 Emil Sayfutdinov (Controversial - still more to come but looking the best rider in last few years along with Tai)
6 Jimmy Nilsen
7 Scott Autrey
8 Split Waterman
9 Kenny Carter
10 Jaroslaw Hampel
11 Billy Sanders
12 Shawn Moran
13 Bengt Jansson
14 Soren Sjosten
15 Bernt Persson
16 Tommy Knudsen
Reserves
17 Jack Parker
18 Soren Sjosten
Winner Leigh Adams 13 (after run off)
Second Zenon Plech 13
Third David Jessup 12
And I would like to see
all teams that are currently competing in British Speedway to keep participating the following year and not be over run by huge financial losses just because a few fans want one GP rider who would beat every rider in the league and make it uninteresting.
Isn't that the point of every social media site or forum to debate or argue the point.
Whether it's speedway, the carpet cleaning industry or John Leslie's bra size is besides the point.
Can't believe Jason Garrity has been mentioned on this thread.
Maybe as a hint of being a UK GP reserve but he isn't riding as well as Kyle Newman or for that matter about 20 other young foreign riders for that matter.
I think we need an alternative name for Wildcards selected into the GP for the whole season and wildcards selected for one GP as it appears fans are getting confused.
IMO I wouldn't pick Troy unless he were to make the top 8 outright. The reason being is actually very similar to Martin Smolinski.
Both failed to get into the GP challenge through qualifying and both have had one excellent GP. If your going on country criteria I would have thought with Doyle, Holder and possibly Ward there maybe Smolinski would have more chance being the lonely German.
But failed at the GP challenge which I think will be his downfall.
Personally I would pick MJJ but I wouldn't mind Peter selected as he is gifted and exciting on the bike.
Tbh I disagree with all you said in my post with the exception of Laguta who isn't good enough in my opinion and NKI who should be there.
This topic is really interesting because I cant remember seeing 2 posters agree on the same set of wildcards, yet quite a few years ago it was a lot easier to pick and then you have the Ward situation.
Really tough pick on the selectors and someone major is going to be disappointed.
Of course he earned it. He had to make it as a reserve to give himself a chance and nearly always in these challenges, a rider per year pulls out due to injury just like the GP.
Are you going to tell me that Troy Butler didn't deserve to make the World Final in 89 although he was reserve 3 times for the qualifying rounds.
Harris took his chance just like Andy Smith used too.
What and have the most exciting and one of the best riders in the world out of the GP for next year just because of his immoral behaviour this year.
I think him missing every league and GP ride for the rest of the year and costing him a lot of money along with a stern fine and a final warning would have been another punishment.
Everything he did was wrong but to ban him from next years GP series would be harsh in my opinion.
I think the most consistent and best riders should compete, no matter what.
Everyone has there own opinion on this matter.
Mine would be Ward, Sayfutdinov, Jepsen Jensen and Iversen.
If it would not be possible, 9th and 10th etc but tbh the majority of times that these wildcards are named are usually spot on in my opinion.
