Speedway World Cup 2017
GWC replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Personally I don't think it was the track that made for a brillliant meeting more the fact you had 4 riders in each race capable of winning it. Made for a highly competitive meeting ala a GP and moves by some riders that really were wild. -
Speedway World Cup 2017

I can't remember the last time Denmark were not in the final and shows how much they have declined as their new generation are not up to it. -
Those days it was run for the good of the sport and not promoters egos winning was an aside.
-
I thought it was BV who rearranged the match with Rye's blessing.
-
We are learning from the masters Poole! Perks might come back in when the averages fit - isn't that how it's done these days...
-
Never understood why speedway hasn't moved away from the 'promoter' aspect and not had a business style of directors. It would probably remove the self interest syndrome that has blighted the sport for too many years. I know that the majority of teams do not own their own stadia but it can't be good for the sport having the outdated funfair style of management.

I remember a kid called Billy Sanders first ride for Ipswich beating Bengt Jansson and Chris Morton at Hackney beating Bengt.
-
So Poole threaten the blokes career for the sake of their team building - charming!

There are was of avoiding the M25 queues by using the side roads leading up to the tunnel when coming from Kent. You get caught up in traffic eventually but not more than 20 minutes as a rule to get through.

Message to our fans: I would like to inform you all of the facts surrounding last night's Belle Vue fixture. This was a re-arranged fixture, this date was the best option out of the three possible dates Mark Lemon offered me. As you are aware, both of our Team's riders have many motorsport commitments, here and overseas. With Mark missing Bjerre and us missing Kennett - this was actually better than other dates where we both would be missing multiple riders. I submitted my Team line up to Mark Lemon (who I would just like to say is a very valuable addition to British Speedway) with Justin Sedgmen and Ben Barker as guests early this week. However, I needed Management Committee approval for Edward's facility as he was travelling overseas to a FIM event. This facility was denied at 4.15pm on 23 July. My only option was to bring in a Championship rider up to the value of 4 points. I do not make up the rules. As a Team we are not halfway through our season and it is certainly NOT over! The Team will be doing everything we can to reach the play-offs, that is our AIM make no mistake! I would like to personally thank Ben Barker and James Sargeant and of course our Rockets for a fantastic effort last night. It was a true display of fantastic racing, I'd say definitely up there with the best racing I have witnessed! Thank you all for your support. Message from Steve Jenson

Overreaction as usual Chris I don't think Kennett was doing Longtrack at the start of the season. Comparing the Rye team to the powerhouse Belle Vue I think they put up a pretty good effort but can't see them getting the better of the current Wolves team in the playoffs.

Perhaps the Raiders will make a comeback next year?
-
If Tungate doesn't do well - and his current form isn't very good - then someone at BVwill have questions to answer. Conversely if he starts scoring double figures everywhere then serious questions would need to be asked about speedway in the U.K.
-
What was the reason for no programmes being available?
-
People just got dazzled by the 'names' forgetting that most of the signings were past their best days. Rye have made the jump to the top league so it's refreshingly better than what supporters had been served up under the declining Silver era. Comparing teams in this league I think Rye will finish 5th or 6th and that's their current level.
-
He might never ride again in the UK after a few meetings this year. Waste of money and effort invest in U.K. based riders for goodness sake!

I started going to speedway in the late 60's and went away mid 80's seen the 4 valve come in and change the sport but only slightly. Came back in 2004 and the change was striking Lay down engines and slick tracks but the racing was thrilling and the speed exhilarating. Riders need far more skill now to ride these high powered machines so development can take much longer for many - a few are exceptions but in the 70's you could be a novice one year and a 1st division heat leader in a couple of years. Rarely happens and unlikely to as promoters want ready made riders for their teams.
-
Agreed but Tai Woffinden gained his experience doing a million laps on the local track his father helped to build. Likewise the Aussies had a very well run junior development system. Not sure this still applies hence the decline in their next generation. I think tougher immigration requirement has also contributed to this.
-
Back on topic - Poland Denmark and Sweden have a junior development system way ahead of anything we had or probably likely to have partly due to our tracks being owned by other businesess. The demise of the old second half racing that allowed for juniors and reserves to get more track time has,I feel also been a factor. I regularly attend Rye House and their junior racing has seen 13/14 year olds lapping at times only a couple of seconds off Championship times of old so the talent is there but not in enough numbers. I also think the dreadful system we have of hiring and firing riders from teams -especially the youngsters has exacerbated the decline.
-
Must be a different Huckenbeck who rides for Kings Lynn!
-
You need to check their recent scores Ben
-
You can't help injuries but dropping a fit rider is baffling - I would deeply dislike the Poole promotion if I were a supporter.
-
The National league has gone from a development league to a 3rd division and has become results driven. So with averages ruling the roost you get teams with sacrificial riders when they have built a heavy top 3 so young and old make huge investment to score a couple of points in some cases, but they turn up and are available. I went to Rye yesterday and saw 36 heats of kids and did show some have real talent on a bike but as mentioned it's allabout the finances and the best supported will more than likely succeed.

Hope it's not too windy!
