Allowing Morris to double up is the joke of the season I’m afraid.
-
Matt Ford has alluded to the league running without TV money. Might be a strong team if all (better) GP riders are missing.
-
Yes Rob so do I my first taste of speedway but when you consider all London tracks have gone some others are in their twilight and a dwindling fan base its a depressing fact of Speedway today.
-
Have one Elite league and then a semi pro league for weekend racers. Once this happens a few tracks would close so rider shortage wouldnt be a problem.
-
Rules rules and more rules its killing speedway! I would hope they give more consideration to a league that should be for full and partime riders. There was a time when riders in this league were graded as averages restrict teams too much, especially as you have far more riders doing it for fun.
-
Tweet from Scott Nicholls saying unfair that the BSPA wont allow him and Kennett to double up and jeopodising his income. Sounds like they have signed to a Championship club so maybe holding up the Rye team announcement.
-
At those odds clearly the bookie had no knowledge of Speedway!

What as a GP rider? He can still earn a very good living in the UK and be a top rider for any club of his choice. I'm sure since Wards serious injuries it has affected some riders more than others,Chris especially.
-
Travelling from Kent as I do its pot luck sometimes with the tunnel and the M25 as to what time you will arrive!
-
You are probably correct Lisa but it is this short term merry go round that again (in my eyes) has brought speedway to the problems we have now. Little or no investment in UK riders has been the promoting strategy for the past 10 years and now we are left with a few top riders who command the highest price to ride. For every Ward or Holder you need others to fill the team and this majority have been used and abused far too readily.

Gavin wrote - 'I think the young Brits know exactly how things work at Poole and to further their careers have decided to move on, worked for Ellis who has a winners medal to show for it' Sadly the Ford man has a terrible reputation (in my eyes) for this.

Reassessed Averages
GWC replied to dontforgetthefueltapsbruv's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Indeed but as it confirms Doyle and Lindgren are the better riders (currently) so a premium will apply to them. If you have a rider who is on the way down (Holder) and on the way up (Fricke) then does it matter a lot when building a team? Thats always been the beauty of speedway hasnt it - riders improve and so does the team. Going the other way - tough. Avoiding average manipulation and petty squabbles amoungst erstwhile promotions is more important to the sport that is currently going downhill fast. -
Great to see Mildenhall embracing the spirit of what the NL should be about - opportunity for young riders.

Reassessed Averages
GWC replied to dontforgetthefueltapsbruv's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Absolutely but who decides on the averages ?The promoters I guess so vested interest comes into play. Such a sad state of things and why cant they just use a grade system based on historical scoring in the UK. New to UK or returning riders graded on their experience etc etc. Grade every rider currently getting his leg over around the world and then use it to build teams in each league here and in Europe. In these days of algorithms it cant be that difficult! -
Not if the M25 is involved!
-
Yes I recall the time we signed Jason Doyle only to release him when Steve Boxall was fit. Len always said that height not always be challenging for honours but it was his priority to make sure Speedway continued every year he was in charge. In light of this I find some comments on here saying we must have this or that rider and we are dumbing down the league somewhat short sighted.
-
Its not any longer a training league and has suffered with a dearth of new talent which has been a feature of Speedway in the uk and now some European countries. However there is a ray of hope with a National training scheme of sorts.

Are Leicester, Rye House, Somerset And King's Lynn Cheats?
GWC replied to Grachan's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
. Its more to do with averages and money these days. Football has gone the same way wont be many statues erected for players in the future unless 2 or 3 seasons qualifies them! -
I didnt vote for brexit but will accept it!
-
Its rider control in a different guise and makes sense when you have a league of only 8 clubs. If in 2019 there are twice as many 8 pointers then the rules will change.
-
Some results defied logic last season so does it really matter whether you have 2 x 8 pointers or 1 x 8 and a bit stronger down the order. Im sure that Swindons win last year was as much to do with low average riders performing way above their average.
-
Perhaps the promotions at Swindon Wolves and BV feel its better not to have a top heavy team!
-
Speedway as a family sport appears to be on the wain since the advent of computer games!

What Would You Change In Speedway Next Season?
GWC replied to 4thbender's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Play offs - when teams still have 3 or 4 meetings to run and the title is already concluded. It's a disaster of a business model for some clubs. Give teams back riders who they can be recognise with and not riding for 2 teams - so an amalgamation of the 2 leagues with some 'stars' attracted back and the best NL boys promoted.
