Heads Gone 2018 Team Building
GWC replied to Phil The Ace's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
The fan base has been eroded so far now that those missing have found other things to do. Bringing in the best riders will just slow down the inevitable downturn and give us a slow death. Get rid of the doubling up and go back to teams that fans can identify with for the season rather than this obsession with qualifying for the play offs even though TV demands this 'excitement' for some reason. -
I'm pretty sure that as in all sport if you pay enough you get what you want!

Rye are a Premier team and I don't think British speedway is responsible for KK's poor form.

The weather looks a bit iffy

Poole Pirates Vs Somerset Rebels 26/07/17
GWC replied to Shaleshifter's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Poole seriously need to look at other teams to see they are no weaker than most. Fords rant in the SGP match report shows he doesn't understand speedway when you remove so called 'superstars' which Poole have had in abundance in the past. Welcome to the real world Mr Ford cause it's not going to get any easier! -
King's Lynn Vs Wolverhampton 26/7/2017
GWC replied to Star Lady's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I'm surprised KL fans are so gracious towards Buster and the promotion. If they were serious about running speedway then another way has to be found to protect the track from the ever predictable rain that seems to arrive on a Wednesday. This is an Premier club not a back water National league fixture AND what makes it even worse is the BSPA Chapman runs the ******** show! I'm sure the animosity shown by some of the riders is well founded. Rant over.... -
Never thought I would say this but I'm now tired of the so called Premier league as a competition and the old comments about the previous Elite league are true that there are just not enough fixtures and veriety of teams. At least we had pretty much Saturday speedway in the old Premier but not any more and to me that is more important than the teams strenghth and play off challenge.

KL need to invest in track covers they have far too many meeting postponed due to the weather in their region.

Swindon V Rye House Thursday 20th July Sgbp
GWC replied to racers and royals's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
This will be Swindons 8th home fixture and 3 have been against Rye! -
All this nonsense might be why some promoters are now favouring the National league.

What happens when/if the Poole track isn't to his liking on a Wednesday evening!

More importantly why do promotions continue to throw money at riders who begrudgingly ride in the UK. We keep hearing how overseas riders get financial backing before home based riders. I'm afraid UK speedways precarious situation has been seriously tainted this season and it could leave some tracks sparsely supported.
-
Sweden in decline Denmark similar and UK scrapping the bottom but Poland goes from strength to strength. If there were a major drop in income then clubs would more than likely fold rather than try and offer a watered down competition, in their and fans eyes. Unlike the 1950's when speedway in the UK went down to 12 clubs (amazing I know) I can't see a revival that was the Provincial league as the world has moved on and stadia that have closed couldn't afford to open.

Might Edward reappear at some stage ?

Rye House V Wolves Saturday 15th July.
GWC replied to tocha's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
More dirt would end up in your lap or your hair like last night as dry weather conditions don't help plus would make it tough for lesser riders. The track is now wider at turns one and two so riders use the high line to get a run off the corner, it means the inside is now virtually redundant and with better riders this year it's all about chasing the dirt and makes the racing exciting but lacks the overtakes we purists always yearn for. -
As a Rye fan I'm now rooting for the Robins as they have stood by their riders and are gaining the reward. BWD has huge potential and I'm sure a few Polish teams will be taking a look.

Modern machinery has been around for years lay-downs etc. Silencers and tyres have made the difference to cause bikes to perform dangerously in inexperienced hands. The insurance now paid to cover riders has nodoubt increased substantially

Speedway World Cup 2017
GWC replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Reality check time I'm afraid the link below is to the WTC final from 2007 - confirms we have had just one world class rider in Woffinden in 10 years and he was Aussie produced. Other countries (Poland apart) will also struggle as their world class riders retire so it's looking like the competition might just be in its last days. http://speedwayupdates.proboards.com/thread/2139/world-cup-final -
It looks like Bomber is no longer Bomber but simply Harris. All old names have been removed from the bike and the helmet for some time. Probably 'yes' if riding in Germany!
-
Matt Fords pre season blast about the leagues lack of ambition to sign top riders might be the reason he is losing interest - this season at least. Perhaps there's an unwritten expenditure cap on clubs.

Speedway World Cup 2017

Oh well in a few weeks it will be all forgotten just like the football always is until the next time...... -
Speedway World Cup 2017
GWC replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I suppose we could ask the Poles if we could send our best prospects to ride in their leagues as we allowed Poles into the UK when they were all but a one man nation in Zenon Plech. Doubt it will or could happen today but Poland needs to look at where the opposition will come from in a few years time. -
Speedway World Cup 2017
GWC replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
How many of the GB team have actually been brought up riding speedway as their first sport? I'm guessing Lambert Harris probably grass track and Cook and Worrall come from motocross. If GB plug away like this then it's difficult to see where improvement will come from at international level. -

what happened to the 'ace' tuner GB employed a few years ago when last time it was in Poland? Seem to recall they did ok then. -
Clearly it was too early for him to be in the Championship with the same race format that currently applies. If you provide a heat formula that allows riders to compete on equal terms then it would make their task a little easier. I have never understood why we have a heat leader riding with a reserve.
