would he be returning after a season or two out of the sport??

Be interesting to see what entry / level qualification is for Riders. Going to be interesting with no PL Club north of Sheffield or South of Swindon and a cluster in East Anglia. Monday and Thursday not exactly great for kids either with school and traveling! Seems the door may have been left open to CL/NDL to run but not with use of dormant Club names?

If it is done properly then fair enough. The cynic in me thinks it's all about building Club asset bases.

Overseas riders 2021season
HGould replied to Jonny the spud's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Way too soon to know I would think. Must be some allowance for anyone who has worked here before and highly unlikely not to include ex or current Commonwealth Countries. It may stop a few newcomers but that may be no bad thing anyway with so many british riders out of a job -
Reading between the lines of various comment over past 12 months I think the NDL and lower Development leagues are the victim of a plan to have top 2 Leagues more clearly defined. That seems to be Godfreys mission! A PL of 10 Clubs with less doubling down and a CL of the rest with more of a CL second string / CL reserve / NDL heat leader / second string level ;and therefore lower costs in points pay. To have enough riders you have to remove a tier and that's the 3rd tier Thats a good concept but the better financed CL Clubs like Glasgow and Leicester and now Poole probably can't make PL pay on Monday and Thursday. They would probably jump up if they could use Friday; Saturday and Wednesday respectively. The Monday + Thursday fixation is the upper blocker and the lower blocker is the future of the 3 standalone Clubs (or imminent death as seems likely). I'd be happy to see Brummies in the 2nd CL tier on this basis but can't see 10 Clubs in PL as things currently stand.

Would love to see some of those names you mention involved in some sort of "nostalgic" Fixture too at some point. I guess lack of tracks in London now makes it difficult, hopefully something Rye House could look at?
-
That's not a reason though to spitefully stop Clubs who are trying to maintain a supporter base and an interest level and at the same time bring along a new generation of riders with some meaningful competitive racing and in an environment where they can learn from and be around more established riders. The other thing that will affect the established "landlord" clubs is that some of these nomad sides would bring in 10-20-30 supporters or more through the turnstiles, most to see their Clubs active and less to see riders develop. If they are lost you also impact on finances of the landlord club like Birmingham. No vision, no explanation from the BSPA Management Committee at all! (yet anyway)

I've read a detailed reply from Reading who it seems are worst affected as they were passionate supporters of MDL/SDL and also seems closer than any dormant Club to getting a track back. Facebook indicates Weymouth will make a statement after the meeting tomorrow. One rumour though which really would throw everything in to complete confusion is that Mr Godfrey wants to run a "Halifax" Team at Scunthorpe. I can only speak for what I see at Birmingham. We do get some old MK fans there to watch and some young talent that looks like it could make it. Will be a shame if its lost. If they want every / some PL / CL to run second half development racing in 2021 that's fine but what about the fans of dormant Clubs, where do they go to see their favourite team and won't they be forever lost to the Sport? Also what about IOW especially, Mildenhall and Plymouth - what happens to them? if no NDL (3rd tier)??. Can't afford to lose the likes of Barry Bishop and IOW.

Worrall looked very upwardly mobile at end of 2017 possibly even the next breakthrough rider. Terrible luck at start of 2018 stalled him. Think even he would admit he tried to come back too soon in middle of 2018 and may be now regrets not allowing more healing time. Never really got to grips with 2019 but I do agree that often a rider needs a full summer and winter to recover form after such injury. It's possible 2020 will define him as either being very upwardly mobile again or a rider who will be a solid 8 pointer but always look back at that crash and wonder "what if". I do think Ellis (other than Cook) will be best CL rider in 2020 and King will be very solid back up and one of top 10 in the League overall .

nailed on inevitable that Poole will make 2-3 changes at some point just before mid season. they always do! sign assets and then dump them when it suits and bring them back once someone else has honed their skills and paid a loan fee. why else did they want to cheat their way out of the First Round of the KOC which would have been before 1st averages were due and would probably have lost to Edinburgh, on paper and on the track. shame Newcastle didn't tell them to do one.

Does have the feeling of someone being dragged screaming and kicking in to making a small concession they don't really want to do.

NEC Event late 70's from memory drew massive crowd but surface was rubber with slick tyres (again from memory). There may have been a chance at that time (golden era big crowds especially in Midlands - Brummies / Wolves / Heathens / Bees / Lions etc) to have created a shale track but technology at the time was not there. Doubt it would make money now unless they could try to tag on to one of the big MX shows at NEC. Telford was novelty as you say. Wasn't there one in Brighton for a few years? New Years actual meeting at Newport was far better idea!
-
Totally agree. If 5000 turn out at Mildenhall and there is a feeling at that point that something else is needed then it can be arranged at end of the season. Best as you say to make it an annual Event as long as there is a feeling that's what's wanted.

Agreed It's right and respectful that Scunthorpe and Ipswich will want to wait until after Danny's Funeral on the 14th and possibly the post mortem, before making any announcements of team plans and replacements but as with any sport and facet of life as the saying goes "the show must go on" as it will with a lot of respects paid to Danny to come all over the UK no doubt. That's as it should be!

charging a dwindling group of loyal customers MORE, of any business to cover a lack of new customers is only going to lead one way!

Lots of tracks I visited last season doing a lot of positive things with all ages. Birmingham; Swindon; Glasgow; Berwick, Redcar ; Somerset , Eastbourne all tracks I visited in CL and witnessed initiatives for younger fans, older fans and parents of younger fans. The end may be cometh but some are at least trying.

Don't agree with that at all. Poole - next to Sandbanks (richest bit of real Estate in UK) and in an area of higher net wealth than the part of Kent where Sittingbourne is. Eastbourne - leafy East Sussex and the London Commuter belt Both £17 Adults + Poole £14 Concessions (65+) Eastbourne £15 (60+ Ladies 65 Men) Both have various Student Concessions + other perks for specific Groups. It's the OAP's Len is screwing over... 2 OAPS at Poole £28.00 / 2 OAPS at Eastbourne £30.00 / 2 OAPS at Kent £38.00. Scandalous Pricing by Len!

Birmingham Brummies 2020
HGould replied to ProudtobeaBrummie's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Would like Will Pottinger personally, lives local, no longer involved at Cradley Heath. -
Thanks Skidder £17 Adults and £14 Concessions at Poole (over 65).... very reasonable £31 for me and the wife. looking forwards to seeing brummies at Poole in CL
-
As an OAP on my visits South with my wife I can get in to Eastbourne for £30 (they class my wife as an OAP at 63 as Men 65 and Ladies 60 there for concession) and Kent for £38. Brummies will cost us £30 so great value but they don't class my wide as an OAP (over 65 at Brum) Poole I can't find any Admission Prices for on their website - any ideas? So Kent is over 20% dearer than Brummies and their local rivals. Should Len reconsider?
-
I never understand as an OAP why Len, who must be knocking on 90? does not do concessions for OAP's like almost every other Club. These prices seem out of line with almost every other CL Club Brummies £16.50 (Concessions £14)

I like Lawrence and I'n sure Laurence will do a fine job standing in. Sometimes a fresh and new perspective can have a beneficial impact. -
Fantastic personality and great guy. The Sport is the poorer. The outpouring of thoughts and genuine sadness show the affection Danny was held in. Not a time for guessing or conspiracy theories at all please lets all show some respect for family and friends.
-
Agree with that and if they increased Brit reduction to 5% or more for U21's in both Leagues PL/CL it would encourage more Clubs to develop Home talent. Also agree that in the real world Promoters have to pick 1-7 to win matches, matches and not win friends and most Speedway Club supporters would view success as more important than development.

You hit the ail on the head, got nothing to do with available dates Everything to do with-: 1000 mile round trip Sam Masters / Richie Worrall / Josh Pickering ! Early exit in KOC and locals would be despondent
