SGB Championship 2020 Confirmed Signings
HGould replied to TheMessiahOfTheBSF's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Do the averages shown include 2.5% discount where applicable for UK / NDL progression?? -
Big fan of Kyle and think he was badly treated at Brum as was Ullrich and both did very well end of season in proper roles (2nd strings) at new Clubs with pressure off. Brennan was excellent at Perry Barr just before his injury. Have to agree Kyle and Brennan are solid looking and who did Eastie start with at second string last year ??. was it Morley and Bowtell? Wish Kyle all the best for 2020 top lad!

Birmingham Brummies 2020
HGould replied to ProudtobeaBrummie's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Don't think limit will be that high? Even less likely I think we could afford Harris and Nicholls - still big earners would reckon a grand a meeting minimum each. If Scotty had become available b4 Bomber me I'd have had Scotty to balance side with a "gater". Harris / Garrity / Shanes all opponents got to do is slick off track and we are in trouble. Expect plenty of new shale at Perry Barry! -
Don't they make a big announcement at the end tonight???...

"But for Kent/Plymouth it will be a condition of acceptance because if they step up then it would likely lead to the collapse of the NDL league ." Them running NDL won't be a condition of acceptance at all, it will be based on a voluntary decision they have made to do so...IF they do, and since Len Silver has already indicated he will it is a purely voluntary decision on his part.

The recent comments on this thread are a perfect example of the blind alleys one comment on social media can lead people down. I have read the Speedway Star comments and Club comments on it and can't find anyone saying "having an NDL Team" is a requirement of Kent, Plymouth or Poole being allowed in to the CL. I have found plenty of comment from Len Silver (who likes to run a meeting every week) saying he may consider running CL + NDL. I have found comment from Plymouth saying if they are not accepted in CL they will look to stay in NDL and one comment from their Promoter saying he would consider both. Nothing in anything Poole says has mentioned NDL. I can confirm that last year Brummies were not asked to run an NDL team and I can't find any reference to fact Eastbourne were? As someone else has said, hard enough to move up, almost impossible to run 2 teams. I have a hunch the writer of the comment that started this current tangent of debate this is talking out of his/her exhaust pipe and seeking to wind people up. We will hopefully know on Friday night whether CL is 11 teams as now, or 12, or 13, or maybe 9 or 10?...or will there be a separate PL/CL by Friday night? Who knows at this point??.

If IOW couldn't run in NDL if there is no NDL wouldn't it be a good shout for Matt Ford to approach Barry Bishop - that could be a dream for Poole as Barry is probably the most inventive / imaginative of current promoters - match made in heaven.

In the Midlands there are many older athletics venues in need to local authority investment that has sadly not been forthcoming before / after Olympics 2012 and still a few that hark back to the days when industry provided good sports facilities for their employees. I do remember going to speedway at Scunthorpe that was an athletics track, would have been around mid 70's can't remember name of the place and there were similar venues in Birmingham (Aston under motorway) that I think Brummies looked at and in Dudley borough / Sandwell Borough (that I think Cradley looked at) and others. Benefit of athletics tracks is that they have an obvious shape and base around which stadium is built that means work required to put down a track is reduced.

what happened to this, did it ever take off - can't recall anything about it at Birmingham ??

What's the "fair play charter"
-
I read the Speedway Star that's all, I was a Track Raker and that's about it. My reading of the Speedway Star this week suggests to me that Kent and Poole are as sure as you can be to be in The Championship when you read the articles written. I may be wrong but looks like rubber stamping at the AGM which is next week Wednesday and Thursday I think. I do hope there is a decent NDL in 2020 as most would agree it needs to thrive.

I did wonder that as TT improvement was eye catching and staggering. OK they could be accused of throwing them in at the deep end and would not be able to ride until 16 (mid April I think) but if no NDL who do TTwins ride for and where and Leicester surely have them on long term cast iron Contracts. Only other logical suggestion would be keep one at Leicester and loan one to Brummies (cheeky I know) but then you have to think of parents who'd have to give up even more time to support them. Dickson is the shrewdest guy out there so I'm sure will have something up his sleeve and that may including using Hume/Lawlor and another as "stop gaps" until Twins are 16??... Watched TTwins beat some other CL reserve possibles when riding for Cubs like Bickley / Kemp / Jenkins / and good CL reserve like Flint in recent visits so may be that's the plan.
-
I don't think that there is any doubt that Poole and Kent will be accepted in to the Championship for 2020. With Sheffield moving up they will want a round number and if Poole made 11, they will want a 12th and I think Kent will get the nod ahead of Plymouth based on geography.. Only have to hope that there is a NDL for those Clubs not in PL/CL to race in!
-
Bickley I think has done well on tracks he likes, at tracks he doesn't in CL and especially in NDL his scoring has barely improved. He really needs a season at an Edinburgh / Newcastle type track to improve his technical riding as no doubt he has speed. His performances last winter were pretty poor, I hope to see some improvement there in the coming weeks as he has long been rated one of the better prospects of his generation.
-
Going to be a mad frenzy for Scotty. Could the Brummies possibly fit in Scott and Bomber? Likely South Coast I'd imagine, Poole ; Eastbourne ; Kent in that order...???
-
in the last peak late 70's / early 80's it was for a while 2nd to soccer, a very poor 2nd, but that was b4 professional Rugby Union, the advent of T20 Cricket and Sunday/Evening horse Racing targetted at families and at a time when Dog Racing was a lot more popular too.
-
NDL motto should be "it aint over til the fat lady sings". Can be a good product with 8 Teams and no certainty that Kent and Plymouth will be in CL or won't run CL and NDL as both said they may do and if Colts and Cubs return with Mildenhall and IOW only needs Buston/Stoke and one other rumoured collaboration between Scunny/Sheffield and you have 8 sides

Birmingham Brummies 2020
HGould replied to ProudtobeaBrummie's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I'm as sure of Ashley as I was with Bomber, hopefully so! -
Facebook says Ian Smalley? Question is very clear "With a purely hypothetical average points limit of 40 points, what Riders would you most like us to retain / most like us to sign for 2020?" Nice isea though, more Clubs should do this, I know Redcar have.

Birmingham Brummies 2020
HGould replied to ProudtobeaBrummie's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
hearing Ashley Morris is a definite for 2020. -
got to think Kennett ; Kemp ; Jenkins will be 3 of them? possibly a marquee name like Scott Nicholls? / Danny King? Ben Morley / Alfie Bowtell / Georgie Wood / Spiller brothers- if Eastbourne don't want them in 2020? Is Gilkes ready for a step up? Depends too on what old assets Len holds from previous Clubs. Lot's of second string / reserve options will need some imports to bolster I'd say Kennett + 2 heat leaders (King and Nicholls??) Morley and Wood as 2nd strings Kemp at reserve with Jenkins or Gilkes

He's not going to Poole though is he
-
Not sure who i going to replace Rasmus who could have the season he's had, who is available and would fit average wise other than someone on that list or already contracted somewhere else. Lawson seemed cagey in recent Speedway Star interview as if he had a move eyed up and is Glasgow asset, King said in this weeks SS he is looking for a Championship Club, Wells has indicated he is moving and Morris and Summers seem to be linked with various Clubs. Who would you want outside of that list Foamfence?
-
So who replaces Rasmus? Richard Lawson? Ricky Wells? Aaron Summers? Danny King? Nick Morris?
