Chris Harris in the GP '07
Hazzman replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Hey lets not a ''young'' lad before hes ran. Unfair, has he has not pleaded to BSI or be given a nice bye. Hes just been given a nomination, although for his nationality, its no need to pick on Harris. I'd like to watch him around Krsko and Bydgoszcz. Someone needs to invest in him and the same applies to Jagus. Both riders can be incredible to watch providied machinery and track conditions allow it. -
In my opinion, I'd swapped Nicholls with Lindgren and Loram for Harris. But either way I am happy with Harris with international form has come on leaps and bounds. Kolodziej's time will come, time is on his side after all unlike the British riders.

Just to add I hope the chap gets a nice new sponsorship deal. Maybe Mr.Ham wants to make a 3rd addition to his team as its something Bomber has struggled with for the step-up in equipment. -

Good News. I like him because he simply shows an eagerness to learn and hes unafraid to 'give it a go'. I hope he shows some glimpses next season that he can do the step up. Hes been heat leader quality material at Rynbik and Coventry this year. -

I partly do. I like Nicholls personally, just a lot of unwasted talent in my opinion and needs a more assured mentor whose number one aim for the GP weekend is not to see whether the nightlife is any good. But I am totally against BSI's current policy of rewarding riders which fail to take the two opportunities to provide them with a spot for next season, a) top 8 Qualifying system. It's totally unfair to all riders who want to get the next rung of the ladder. Your Kolodziej's, Bjerre's, Harris's etc. They are being excluded just because of nationality. A country was banned from worldwide sport for a similar policy but instead it was because of race and not nationality. Its simply not fair for anybody. It could do the world of good that Nicholls misses a year, just like Lindback needs to take a serious look at their approaches generally the sport. Start to show some professionalism and go up through the gears. The probelm is Nicholls is getting no younger, BSI would lose a whole load of money and the FIM dont want to run this competition simple as. Basically World Speedway from an inner core is currently rotting itself with its World Championship. Alright keep the World Champs but maybe a 2 stage qualifying system in March/April and then your 10 GPs in the other months. The sport will disgress as a quality for it aswell. Generally Nicholls failure is down to the wrong mindset and a bad set-up. Zagar is the greatest example, if you put your heart into and have a clear objection to achieve goals. Thats what makes a winner. Just as much as establishing your mistakes and then improving on them (its what took Andersen to realise he can be world class and you grow up wanting to be a 'World Champion' not the '10th best in the World) -

I am not liking this current bad vibe off people for a someone's opinion, It's a forum, the main reason people should come on here its to discuss viewpoints and hear to whatever people say. I admire certain people's opinions like SCB for example who is willing to argue in a constructive and proper way, rather than constant sniping back and forth. Please attack the post not the poster else it becomes tiresome. We dont want to see Sub post the same opinion for 30 odd times whereas picking up on one point of his argument is a lot more useful than arguing like kiddies in a playground. -

Replace one of the swedish ones whose crowds will soon start to fall with no world champion. I hope Andreas proves us wrong. -

They were 3 Poles in the 15 regulars last year, 2 of which got 8th and 9th, Gollob and Hampel thus making them qualify with a seeded spot. Thats 66% of the Poles better than Nicholls. Nicholls is only 33% better than the 'polish crap'. So it seems your opinion is a little out of sync. Jagus is a rider in Top 10 of Swedish and Polish averages, currently equal 10th in my World rankings, if not better or equal to Nicholl's current level of riding. In general, all 3 Poles 'qualified' for next seasons GP series but Nicholls relies on a decision which is unfair to all riders of any nationality. -

Might have something to do with more GPs in previous seasons. I am not 100% sure but I think its a possibility. -

You seem to have misunderstood my point. I applaud the likes of Horton and Louis. However, the Conference League two years ago was ideal set-up but now it seems on its knees, we have probably 8 tracks you can be assured of Conference racing, two of them are fielding Premier League teams. I was trying to say that they are Poles, Swedes and Danes at the same age but at a completely different stage of development, they are riding for foreign teams in different leagues again more experience. The British view of a young Speedway rider seems to be very open, Stead is about 25, Harris a year younger, and these are at the same development or if not behind Kolodziej 22 year old, Kilndt 17 year old, Thomas H. Jonasson of VMS Elit 18 years old. There has been a few steps to developing a sound British development system. The Under-15s was one step and it seems to have uncovered 2 good riders. The recent Premier League reserves was a good idea, although I would like to see it at Elite level, we dont have enough riders to go around. I actually applaud the Brits who have made the step-up this year. This list of riders have made considerable leaps and bounds this year though I feel many have done it too late. Stead Harris Allen King Bridger Lawson Hall All 7 of them have raised their game sufficiently for them to be signed by their clubs next year but it all seems to late. I personally I believe two training tracks should be nationalised and made into academies with Mauger appointed to look after them in a job well paid by the BSPA. Northside Workington to become a north base and Sittingbourne a south base. BSPA constantly seem to restrict the development with various closing-down of training tracks ie. SHeffield instead of helping with the fence, they neglected and the same will happen at Swindon who the BSPA have let fight their own battle over keeping their track open. Over the riders you name Jirout, only half will have make a living in the British Elite. -

No need for personally attacks, hatred is a very strong and I don't think Sub has that Nicholls, he just simply thinks he's not a world class rider. Either way, not yet. -

Why did we only get one Brit in the U21 final? Why did we fail at the U21 Junior World Cup? We lost out to Germany and Sweden. How come Sparta Wroclaw have a choice between all the juniors in the world and rather than plump for Bridger, they went for Nikolai Klindt who when he comes to the UK will destroy all before him You must deluded if you think UK Speedway is on the up, its rotting from the core down to grass roots level, the Conference League is on its knees. Bridger I feel is an exception, hes an 'one-off' and I would like to see him at a different track next season, we dont want another 'Arlington' expert just like Stead was an 'Owlerton' expert. -

I think all 3 of us can sympathise generally with other riders not being given a chance because of someone's nationality. It reminds me of the quota system employed in South African cricket. I think its also a possibility poor old Bjarne Pedersen will dropped because the quota of Danes is up. -

Naa, yours is a theorem 'Nicholls Giveamiss 07' -
No I didnt do that something to ponder. The Elitserien and Ekstraliga are probably the same degree of quality. I have watched meetings from both leagues and it was of similar quality. I am sure someone here also said that the riders find Sweden hardest but Polish the most competitive and enjoyable. The averages combined and are in fact a more truer picture of who is a better rider.

It seems strange Sub that no-one as answered the quiry that Nicholls has not been in the seeded spots now three times and if the exlcusion recently of Sullivan and Andersen is anything to go by, Nicholls should be excluded for the GP 2007 series. Injures dont count, go on the FIM or BSI's site and both say and the record books to that Nicholls once again relies on a wild card. Lets look at it another way, its simply not fair for the emerging poles, dane, swedes and even Brits that Nicholls gets a wild card. I am a student at Dartford Hammer's school of thought that Nicholls needs a year and then he can could back and prove his worth. The argument is worthless as we all know the poor and weak souls at BSI will go for Nicholls as a wild card anyway, they cant afford to lose a large chunk of dosh from travelling Brits going all over the place. -
He has great averages in both of the Swedish and Polish leagues.

Sub has not got a thing of Nicholls though increasingly for saying the actual words 'If I dont get a seeded spot, I dont deserve to be there.' As much as I like Nicholls and hope doesnt do well. The stats say and BSI's previous judgement on other riders that Nicholls doesnt deserve a place for the GPs. Forgot injuries, other riders get injuries and still reach two finals a year. Some are even injured and win GPs. The actual record books dont lie, injures dont count in the results, Nicholls has been out of the seeded spots three times in a row and if BSI's previous selction policy of Sullivan and Andersen, he should be out. -
Just to add on the league averages, for any rider racing in the lower leagues of the big 3 their average was 'weighed' accordingly to the strength of the league. Polish Liga 1- 70% Swedish Alle...-60% Premier League-50%

Heres my World Rankings judging on League averages of the big three, their GP average and their performance and their team's in the SWC. I have done about 52 riders, these all appeared in the top 30 of the regular meetings for EL, Elitserien and Esktra Liga. Now from an average of these 3 averages you get a position this position counts as a point. Now, the GP's are re-jiged by the average of the GPs, ie. Nicholls pts divided by the 9 Gps he appeared. In so the 15 riders were awarded points from their position. Crump finished first so he scored 1 point. If the rider qualified for next year he got 16 pts, if he received a wild card he got 17 pts, if he rode in the GP Qualifier Grand Final he got 18 pts, if he was a reserve for this years GP he got 19 pts and if the riders fits in none of these he scores 20 pts. Now the SWC section was judged on the riders personal performance his average for the meetings he appeared in and then a mark for his team performance Denmark 1, Sweden 2, etc.. This went in the pattern of for example: Australia, Crump (top average) 4, Adams (2nd best average) 4.2, Wiltshire (third best average 4.4) etc. For the rest who didnt appeared, their mark was judged on their past as a WC rider, if they appeared in the last couple of years and would be under consideration for a spot, they scored 10 pts. If they were neither of these 12 pts. SWC Qualifiers also applied. Zabik also got special WC mark because of the under-21 win, he scored 8 in this section, although other riders Lindgren and Lindback appeared in the under-21 grand final, their WC mark was better than for prepared than the special under-21 mark. So after all this, criteria the rider has a number of points and it goes in order of the lowest. One thing I didnt include in these rankings were National Championships. Why? Well the rankings are based upon other international riders, so for example Zagar who constantly wins his Slovenian title shouldnt gain an unfair advantage on his international counterparts who have far more difficult fields. I understand this could apply to the SWC, Zagar have to ride for his country will struggle to get in the main event but I couldnt think of a way to deal with that issues and any suggestions would be greatly appeciated. There is also an unfair advantage to the GP riders, although they are arguably and generally the best in the world. BSI pick the riders and sometimes its not on ability but nationality and marketablity. The same with SWC, as its the authorities who pick the riders to gain smaller points. Again, any solutions to this matter would be appreciated greatly as it would be getting a more accurate rankings. Rankings in the next post.

So far its only based on league averages compared to everyone elses, Nicholls ranks 23rd yet to come is the GP and SWC stuff to add on and then I will have a rough world ranking. But Nicholls average of his 3 averages from UK, Poland and Sweden in comparison to everyone's rankings. Remember the GP series is not a true reflection on whose the best because BSI pick whose in it every year. -

To add the other 5 who in the Top 15 riders are 10= Gollob 12. B.Pedersen 13. Jensen 14. Sullivan 15. Ulamek, Mr.Sub's prediction was quite right This is just based on league averages, but it will probably be the most honest prediction of whose in the Top 15 because GPs and SWC to be added are all now to a selective board (BSI or the appropriate country's authorities) -

By averages of points scored per meeting, this should tell us that Nicholls is worthy of an automatic spot 1. Crump 18.8 2. Andersen 16.8 3. Hancock 14.4 4. N.Pedersen 13.4 5. Jonsson 11.9 6. Adams 10.6 7. Zagar 9.7 8. Gollob 9.4 9. NICHOLLS 9.2 10. Hampel 9.1 11. Lindback 8.9 12. B.Pedersen 8.2 13. Iversen 5.1 14. Richardson 4 15. Protasiewicz 3.1 According to the stats, Nicholls would have made the Top 9 and secondly, that the Top 12 all worthy of a wild card as they have been competitive and can manage an average which is the watermark for a semi-final spot.
