  1. Yes - a number of folks are saying that reserves hold the key to this one, but there are so many other variables in play at present that makes it exceptionally difficult to call. One favourite to watch out for is Ulrich Ostergaard. Who could forget his superb 15 points for Newcastle on his last visit - and here he is again ! ( Nudge, nudge, wink, wink....say no more ) His tremendous match winning performance for Peterborough at Sheffield last night serves as another reminder of what a danger he will be. If speedway did musicals - will they be singing Rhapsody In Blue in the East or will Tonight be a West Side Story ? Not long now to find out which one.
  2. I take it that you also have heard the rumour about about the new VFT test, which works in exactly the way you have described.
  3. Yes, that was indeed a good one and there are one or two others over the leagues that come into the same category. When used sparingly they can often be the highlight of the season due to the quality of the field and generally good standard of racing. Edinburgh have one called The Scottish Open Championship, which incredibly dates right back to 1928 and boasts an impressive list of past winners. To name but a few, how about Bluey Wilkinson, Jack Young, Dick Campbell, Tommy Miller, Ivan Mauger, Barry Briggs, Greg Hancock, Peter Carr, Frede Schott, Rory Schlein et al. None for the past couple of years for obvious reasons but before that there were a good few "Harrison Scottish Open" events, sponsored by Harrisons Ford Centre - a Scottish Ford dealer. Prior to that there were other headline sponsors happy to be involved such as Keyline and others. All racing for the prestigious Jack Young Trophy - a very valuable piece of silverware ( only on loan for a year ) and prize money of course. Fingers crossed we can get back to these good times soon.
  4. Absolutely - go for it ! Anyone who cannot attend for whatever reason and lives more than 50 miles away from the track can catch all the action - live in the comfort of your own garden shed or even indoors if permitted. Have watched a few of these and really enjoyed them - the production team do a pretty good job and presentation is commendably laid back, with no excessive shouty bits when a home rider hits the front. Possible exceptions to this are when Josh Pickering gates last and ends up first after taking the scenic route round the dog track. Who could blame them for that. Highly recommended.
  5. Not to worry - mystery solved. The Monarchs Website Match Scores Scorechart quotes John Campbell as being Bandits Team Manager for the night. There really had to be an alternative explanation for that result.
  6. Could go along with most of that. Managed to catch it via the stream, which was pretty good I thought. Fairly entertaining match overall and visitors not that far away from grabbing a point. Some outstanding and surprise individual performances from Andersen and Thomsen - both showing good speed and determination. The former looks to be an excellent signing for Berwick and once the others are all up to their usual game, he could be a trump card. The home team's known usual weaknesses were again exposed, but the strength higher up the order helped disguise that to a degree. Bit of a risky longer term strategy though and if play-offs are a serious target, wishful thinking may be a risky option. Maybe the proverbial "tweak" may be necessary ? No predictions though, as hindsight is a much safer bet.
  7. Blame Nostradamus - apparently he could see into the future ( alledgedly )
  8. Brilliant - am delighted for both Josh and Sheffield - and here's me thinking that King's Lynn would be the likeliest candidate for his services. Pretty confident that this is his type of track also so should do well. Having said that just look at his scores at Arlington so it does seem to matter so much I guess. He likes a good outside run and Tigers should have fun watching that.
  9. If the 100% certain final member does turn out to be ZK - then that is one heck of a team by any standards. Well done for the shrewd business done on the last two deals. Still early days yet, but it may well be that the play-offs will have only one place left vacant after L.P.& G. have staked their claim. Possible early favourites to squabble over final place would include R, S. & E. with perhaps at least one looking for a fresh face to improve chances. Early predictions can usually come back to bite, as injuries and unforeseen events can play a big part in the outcome, however the build up to the final part of the season will certainly be tasty.
  10. From what I have heard repeatedly on Edinburgh Live Stream Commentary they keep questioning why no Premiership Club has picked up Picko already. Have never heard either of the commentators mention any stumbling blocks such as wrong type of Visa and both seem to know Josh very well. Lynn is the type of track which would suit young Josh down to the ground with plenty of grip and wide open spaces to wind it on. Pickering is certainly one of the most entertaining riders I can recall seeing in recent years. Every race 100% effort and a never give up attitude and he can score plenty points too ( mostly from the back ). Try to chose a race of the season and you will find that Josh has been in most of them. Getting better all the time too - it would be a great shame if was a Visa issue that was keeping him back. Looks as if KL may well have to go back to the drawing board anyway to turn round their season and this kind of move may prove to be the catalyst. Check out some of his races and make up your own mind !
