Mark Jones was in the thick of the action, firstly in a good race with Robert Branford where he chased him all the way, then outgating Justin and holding him at bay for three laps. Jason Stewart made a rare appearance but looked like he had never been away. Robert Branford showed the benefit of three Mildura meets in a month with his best showing to date. The track held up well with only one track grade needed and the meeting also included Quad racing. Cheers Chopper
  2. Well said, you certainly have to do the miles in the land of Aus. We are doing the 800km round trip to Mildura again this weekend, the third time in less than four weeks. Cheers Chopper
  3. Comments: Branford excluded for barging, Turner into fence but ok. Turner out injured Interesting interpritation that one, was that what the ref explained it as. Lifted slightly but was half a bike length ahead and going in a straight line. Still the important thing is that Ben Turner was ok, a bit battered but nothing broken. A nicer guy in the sport you wont meet. Cheers Chopper
  4. Im nearly 100 percent certain that the laydown rule is still applied in South Australia, as it should be. Cheers Chopper
  5. Mate ive been going to Speedway for a lot of years and that meeting tonight has to go down as one of the best ive seen Imagine a meeting like that with the type of TV coverage the GPs have. How was the ride of Alex Davies to knock off Darcy, but then nearly all the races had some close dices. Take a bow Gillman, top nights entertainment, any spare seats heading to Mildura. Cheers Chopper
  6. Glad to see you had a designated driver BFD, hope you are taking it in turns, certainly was good drinking weather. Might be a bit cooler for saturday night. Didnt see a lot of races but heres a few observations if anyones interested. Robbie K told me he doesnt like the track but he certainly showed up with his A game. Alex Davies looked great , can gate and i can understand why Kings Lyyn chased him so hard. Justin Sedgy has improved heaps after his Uk season , third to first was a great ride. Jake Ando was only a good gate away from qualifying, he lives and breaths speedway and im really pleased he has a ride in the UK this season. Josh G was much improved on his last Mildura showing. James Holder looked good , he looks to be another big improver. Robert B showed up well in his 4th heat, but had a few forgetable rides too, hope theres not too much damage to the new GM. It was a shame so many riders pulled out, but i think it is still a usefull meeting and with a lot of new kids coming into the ranks its a good meeting to find where the next step up is.If you didnt run it, and went by MAs criteria of selection a rider like Alex Davies could have missed out. Darrell Branford
  7. Hey BFD, sending Robert up for that one, should be a good weekend i had some great weekends up there myself. Im guessing that Ryan Wark is the brother of Robby Wark a good little rider back in my day, who i stayed with up there. Cheers Darrell
  8. Thanks for that , yes he had his first run at Gillman and did really well. Still a lot too learn, myself included in setting up the bikes. Robert spent four hours at Scotts place saturday learning about clutch set up alone. The 350 races were great with Robert Medson and Authur Sissis duking it out with Braden Paver learning from each ride. Similar to the races Robert and Barney had last year, and in all honesty they have been some of the closest racing for two wheelers last year and this year so far. Chopper
  9. Robert will be nominating for both the aussie titles and under 21s , not sure if he will qualify, hopefully should get a ride in the u21s. Other than that he will be riding at Gillman, Mildura, Undera, Broadford and anywhere else we can get too. Cheers Darrell Branford
  10. Thanks for that turns out it was just the bearing in the clutch that went, sounded like a bigend at first. Was making a horrible noice. Does anyone have full A grade points for both meetings. Cheers Chopper
  11. Just thought id add that i was at both meetings and watched Mark ride with interest as id never seen him ride before. He looked smooth , and fast , so i presume nothing has changed, i had my lad up at the fence at Undera watching him to pick up some tips. Nice to catch up with other forum members, and would like to thank the people involved with both Undera and Broadford for a friendly weekend. Nine rides at Broadford for Robert was great experience, but came home with one buggered bike. Cheers Darrell Branford
  12. Geez give the young kid a break, who would want to be a pommie sporstman, just to make a world final is a massive achievment. This petty nit picking is just crap, support him not knock him. My son and i, in aus are proud as punch of young Darcy, even if he hadnt won it didnt matter. Darrell Branford
  13. Hi there Bryn, can also add that there is a proposed meeting on the 5th of Dec for solos and sidecars at Renmark speedway. Cheers Darrell
  14. Geez bad luck to the Aussies, i think that ones in the bank for the future. Only in speedway can you be rewarded for being mediocre, what other sport would this happen in its laughable. Still like its been pointed out they were the rules before it started, how about to keep it close have the joker but if you havent used it you can use it in your last ride. That way the excitements still there and if its been close you still have two riders racing for the win. Cheers Chopper
  15. Id bet my house that Authur will ride a 500 in australia in the future. I know for certain he will be on a 350 next season if hes old enough. Cheers Chopper
  16. You have lost me, what has that got to do with it. Chopper
  17. Didnt take long for the Nicholls bashers to get out the knifes. On slick tracks if your not gating your not going to score.Your riding against the best riders on equal equipment. I think Scotty is a racer and give him a track that he can race on and we will see, i for one hope he rubs your noses in it and im an Aussie. Chopper
  18. Sounds like a really good meeting. Its funny how sometimes a meeting with no established stars produces great racing. Certainly a lot of up and coming riders at the moment. Chopper
  19. A qualifying round has not been announced. It will depend on rider nominations and a decision will be made closer to the end of the year. For more details go to the Gillman Speedway homepage Id be very suprised if there isnt a qualifier with the amount of talent coming through the ranks. Chopper
  20. Got a late night text last night saying that Mark Mitchell and Tom Golding had taken out the Aust Title. You wouldnt meet a couple of nicer guys so well done. That means the mighty SA had now dominated two of the three major titles, the sidecars and under 16s. All we need now is the solo title, go SA. Dont have anymore details sure someone who went will fill us in. Cheers Chopper
  21. The only place im aware that you can catch the GPs in Aus is on Foxtel, they normally show them about two to three weeks later. They also in the past have shown the world team cup but havent seen any Elite leage. But from experience this year with the AMA motocross which i follow it can be a bit hit and miss. Cheers Chopper
  22. Cant seem to get the links to work, can you retry as i love to watch the yankie racing. A cpl of us fathers with kids racing were toying with the idea of coming to the states for some racing, what age do you need to be to ride a 500cc bike, and how many meetings would you get in say a two week period. Cheers Chopper
  23. Quote;;; Either way I thought the 350s were a recent addition to the Aussie youth scene and it was the 125s that most youngsters did Yes your correct scunny stag, the 350s have only been around for a few seasons the riders still have the option to ride the 125s. But as you will see from the clip a few of the kids outgrow the junior 125s and are ready for something full size, Dave Cheshires lad was over from Perth a while back and hes about 6 foot, my lads about 5 foot 7 and way to big for the junior 125s. The great thing about the 350s is as you stated there not much slower than the 500s so teach the kids about the speed entering corners etc. Is there a structured class for the 250s, it suprised me that no english lads enter the youth cup. Cheers Chopper
  24. Just a quick clip to show the 350 class in action in adelaide australia. Im sure you will agree it is a great stepping stone to the 500s, perhaps the BSPA need to have a look at something similar. This class has produced the current crop of 500 riders with a steady stream of 14 and 15 yr olds coming through. We ran a very succesful aussie title recently, perhaps Whowasthatberntperson can get hold of a clip from that meeting to post. Cheers Chopper
  25. And a very good meeting it was with some top class racing. For those interested there was also a championship run for the 350S and junior 125s.
