    Wembley Memories

I think you will find that Wembley was the preferred venue for the 1985 World Final. Once it was confirmed they couldnt hold it, plans went ahead to develop Odsal. As we all now know, its unlikely to ever return to Wembley.
  2. Rather nonplussed with our team so far. Guess time will tell once all other teams are fully announced.
  3. Excellent team Bickley and Flint are going to awesome to watch, especially at the NSS.
  4. Good Friday, the only day Poole are referring, to is a profitable day for British Speedway. Make use of ALL bank holidays to ensure better than usual crowds. Plain common sense tells us that. Id expect other clubs to do the same.
  5. I dont agree with that at all. Even after 2 seasons there, I never felt comfortable relying on him getting points. Had a few good meetings there, but never mastered the track. Stuck mainly to the inside, when there is a perfectly good outside line. Regularly coming off or bringing others off. with his erratic riding. Not at all bothered to have him back at Poole.
  6. Lawson has history at Workington. He hates going there. Theres agro between him and his Dad. He missed the earlier meeting in August as he was 'ill'. Got a right bollocking off Garry May as Lawson didnt realise he would miss further meetings for Somerset as a result! 7 day ban for illness nowadays, I believe.
  7. Obviously, there is a lot more to run on this matter. A rider misses a meeting without being injured or genuine reason, gets a 28 day ban. A referee made a balls up of the rules at the Belle Vue v Kings Lynn Play Off meeting and gets banned for the rest of the season. Whoever is at fault here will get what? Heavy fine? Ban? Both? I was talking to a referee earlier in the season about track walks. He stated quite strongly, that if he reported all the faults he found, there wouldnt be any speedway. So why not report them? He said 'The simple fact is, clubs cant afford to put everything right'! So just where do we go with any punishment?
  8. Dont underestimate this wonderful achievement. Its massive. To have one local rider in the team is huge. To have TWO is immense in my book. I take my hat off to Laura and co for getting this team together. Reminds me so much of Poole in 1969 and to a lesser extent, 2018. No real big hitter, but everyone of the lads contribute to the TEAM effort. Slightly biased as Ive loved Klindts efforts for Poole this year and of course I do support Kyle Bickley. Now go finish the season with the treble. You certainly have my support from a very sunny, but chilly,Devon. C'mon you Comets!
  9. Huge congratulations to everyone involved with Workington Speedway. Thoroughly deserved win to become 2018 Championship League winners. Well done.
  10. Sad to read all this. However, Mildenhall all but did the same thing last season to Plymouth. They wanted our fixture cancelled as it was 'meaningless' They sent a heavily under strength team to the SBA. No Promoter, no Team manager,(although they did enlist the Weymouth SDL sides management) Unsuitable guests galore. Plymouth riders had a good pay day, 64-26 win, while the Mildenhall contracted riders, Ruddick and Jenkins, conveniently lowered their averages. Therefore costing Plymouth, while the Tigers benefited. Clubs struggle to find sponsors. Part of the deal is,I am sure, we have 'x' amount of minimal exposure for League fixtures. How can you go back to those same sponsors and say 'we have 'x' number of meetings, thats providing the other teams bother to come down'? This is a serious matter. Sorry, but it really is not good enough.
  11. I believe Campton flies home on Tuesday so that he can ride in the Aussie Champs on the Saturday. Another with average/visa problems.
  12. Rumours down here in Devon are that Plymouth are considering the top league in 2019! Might actually make sense as nearest NL is either Birmingham or IOW, Championship is currently Lakeside! In the top league, Somerset Swindon and Poole are fairly close.
  13. As others have said, theres the Klindt link, plus I do help Kyle Bickley. Smashing family too. Other side is of course Adam Ellis and I used to help Kyle Newman! Stood chatting to Keith most of the night. Proctor got his left arm caught between the back wheel and the spoiler.Nasty crash and full credit to Lawson, who also fell. He tried untangling Proctor from his bike. Depending on dates, I hope to be there for at least one of the Play Off Final meetings. Deserved their win on the night as well. I sincerely hope they finish the job on Saturday. So good to see one of the so called 'unfashionable' clubs coming to the fore. Up the Comets!!
  14. On my way up to this meeting from Torquay! Speedway and then a day or two in London. Will be cheering for the Comets. Honorary marra for the day!
  15. Everyone knows we were fortunate, if thats the right way to put it,' with the injuries to the other teams riders at critical times. All credit must go to both Somerset and KIngs Lynn for taking the semi and Final to the last races. I am in no doubt we almost quite literally rode our luck.
  16. C'mon you Comets! Youve already done it to the other Scottish lot!
  17. I hope you can conclusively prove that anyone deliberately cheated. That is one very serious claim you are making. No wonder this forum is considered a dangerous place.
  18. What a load of rubbish. Ellis had one season at Poole! I would have loved to have kept him, but he was released back to Lakeside and then sold to Swindon. Good luck to Bomber, he will give it everything. That said, I would prefer KIngs Lynn to win the Cup!
  19. Taken from the SGP website. Bombers comments and at the end, some from NKI about why he withdrew last night. http://www.speedwaygp.com/news/article/7051/harris-rejuvenated-by-pirate-glory
  20. Sincere congratulations to KIngs Lynn who have probably their best season ever.A little unlucky in the end with some weird refereeing decisions Pleased to be Champions again.
  21. Only able to watch the meeting on TV. Referee got the MPT decision totally wrong. No intent from Jakobsen, he just picked up grip and it shot him forward. Absurd decision. Poole have got a great chance now. However, dont start counting the chickens. Just remember Workington v Edinburgh!
  22. I eventually gave up and left early. My choice. Fair play in trying to get the meeting to continue. Bringing in temp lights, moving them, moving them again and again wasn't looking good. Comical if we weren't sat in the cold with little information. Waiting over 45 minutes, still no real sign if the meeting restarting, cold and tired,I gave up. Bizarre situation in the car park. Being careful where I was walking on the uneven surface with the temporary lighting being just enough to get by. Along come the emergency lighting crew to take the light back to the track. Fair enough. What I wasn't expecting was to see one of the guys staying in the van and having a cigarette, no apparent urgency. Then suddenly no lights making it a very dangerous. No thought for public safety. A very bad day, speedway wise for me. Suffered the poor NLRC and then this. Left home at 6am and got back at 11pm. In no rush to return to either Leicester or Peterborough after yesterday. Poole tonight for the play off is very likely to be my last meeting if the season. Can't make the final even if the Pirates get there!
  23. Awful meeting. Pleased no one got seriously injured. The ONLY good thing I have to say about it is.........the big big smile on Barry Bishops face after an IOW 1&2. The effort he and his team out into PROMOTING speedway, they all deserved this. Congratulations everyone from IOW.
  24. Agree 100%. Sat near start and couldn't believe his decisions. Totally inept.
