  1. especially as the Met Office predicted none and I'm about to set off from here in the very shadow of Waterden Rd. in Stratford-at-Bow up to Norfolk!!
  2. That is good to hear, he scored but three at Perry Barr less than a week ago which just goes to show the improvement possible (and TBF always shown on these tours) as more experience is gained...
  3. Dear, dear - who's woken up grumpy today!!! And btw, it's Hawks as in the bird of prey not Hawkes as in Chesney!!!!
  4. Right, well overdue time this thread was opened... (surprised you've not done so yet, Mimmo!) After all, this fixture is the first League fixture competed in by a team called Hackney since 1991.. And the first by any London club since 2005... I for one am journeying up from the smoke for this one! Dig out a key ring for me MM...!!
  5. Many thanx for this...: I'd never heard of it before! And there was me thinking that Kestrels News (the brainchild of our Bryn..) was the first ever Speedway fanzine!!
  6. Excellent news about 'Asbo'!! Hope to get up on Sunday for his debut!
  7. I'd seen the Yanks at Brum earlier in the week so knew this would be a mis-match, hence I wasn't there John, though a shame as it would've been good to see you and the family... Asked a friend to buy me a Hawks prog board if there was one, as am heading off to see the first NL away match at King's Lynn on Weds. There of course as you say wasn't one... Was involved with Bournemouth the two years Poole experimented with that branded NL team and we had a vast array of merchandising for the Buccs... Which I think you really should do to stand a chance of making the separate identity work... And as for the prog for a stand-alone 'Hackney' fixture simply being a RH one..? Well I agree that's very poor indeed... Personally I think the Hackney thing is going to work a whole lot better at Lakeside and really looking forward to that - and the away matches too..
  8. A couple of entries have appeared on ebay advertising copies of this mag from the early '70s... A new one on me...: was this just something at Hackney or was it a wider published thing..? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Magazine-Speedway-Stop-Press-No-19-Oct-1970-Hackney-/380209965315?pt=UK_Sports_Memorabilia_ET&hash=item588647a903
  9. Ditto. And talking of other ventures, is the Tamworth Saxons still an ongoing project..?
  10. As you say ' Fast Eddie' is a class act - Speedway needs more riders like him... Shame he's even older than I am!!!!!
  11. Ah, I thought that was you! Wish I'd stopped to say hello now - us old out of work announcers need to stiick together! D.
  12. Just back from Brum. Good entertaining meeting and as others have said superb performances from Ben & Tim. Bodes well for the Potters !!
  13. Too much hysteria about the price IMHO. Tell me what admission charge do people expect it to be..? Am expecting replies ranging from free to £2.00...!!!
  14. Hmm, not sure I can in truth ever really be accused of brown-nosing the sainted Mr. Silver... Most of the time I've kinda been in a rival camp..!! My only 'crime' is being passionate about Speedway returning to London - a kind of indefinite place that is, in Speedway terms, within the boundaries of the M25... If people DON'T want such a thing (and let's be honest at least 70% at least of the peculiar breed who post on the BSF seem not to...) then I'm afraid you'll have to shoot me!!
  15. Not sure where you get this idea from that this was all Len Silver's doing. Sure he's agreed to co-host but the decision to re-launch a Hackney Hawks team was NOT essentially Uncle Len's idea... And why so angry about this..? If it is just an attempt to get bigger crowds attending NL racing at these two venues, then also what on earth is wrong with that..?!
  16. Very easy to be hard-nosed and cynical. I dare say plenty (especially on this Forum where negativity is the norm...) were so about Speedway returning to Leicester... After ALL those years, no-one will be interested, it'll never happen etc.: I'm sure all of that was trotted out. But I was at Beaumont Park on Saturday along with 4,500 others to witness a brilliant new stadium staging our sport to rapturous acclaim... Can the same thing happen in East London (or indeed anywhere else in the capital..)? Well it may not but it certainly won't if people don't try.. No-one believed for a second Wimbledon could reopen, but it did... A bigger challenge still for the 'Hackney' project but if south-east and London based supporters don't support it all that will do is widen the odds still further of it coming off... My experience of Rye House people on here (and often in the flesh) is that they love nothing better than slagging everything off...
  17. There's a flaw in your argument...: it's utter nonsense! You're completely ignoring the fact that this team is sharing its home meetings between Rye and Lakeside and that there IS a campaign (of which this is a key part) to get Speedway accepted as part of the Olympic 'legacy' for the precise reason that Hackney Speedway was on the very site of the Olympic Park. And is it so expensive..? A red herring too IMHO...
  18. Ah right, so that'll be Barney Kennett, Les Rumsey, Ted Hubbard and Denzil Kent then...?!!
  19. Not on the official Stoke website though.....
  20. Trying to clarify Potters fixtures... Is the Challenge match vs. Dudley still on for 9/4: no mention in the fixtures list in the GBU21 semi prog.? And is the challenge match referred to by PP above on 16/4 to be styled as vs. Scunny (as Malc suggests), against the Prowlers (as the fixtures list in aforementioned prog. has it..) or dare I be radical and suggest as being vs. Sheffield/Scunthorpe (ie what that team actually is..)..?
  21. BTW, the side is still listed as USA Dream Team in the fixtures on the BSPA website....
  22. Gosh, I knew he tinkled the ivories but didn't realise he was "world renowned" ! Maximum respect to the fella! :approve:
  23. Am always surprised if I go ANYWHERE and don't see the boys Drury, Jarvis and fellow traveller Burrows (no not Buzz, Jonathon!) Shall we go together - am happy to drive...?
