See you there on a rare 'overseas' trip then KD...!!

I doubt many would agree with your assessment. Oli is an outstanding prospect.

1) Yes it's true that the approval contains a curfew of 8.30pm - it should be noted btw, that this was NOT a restriction put on the planning consent by Swale Council but was in the application: on the advice of Environmental Health experts. I think too much is made of this - it could be viable to start Speedway at 7pm IMHO.. 2) "Viable" is the concept debated here too re. Iwade. There will be conflicting views but I personally could see no reason why viability was in doubt coming into 2009, when there were individuals prepared to back the side and some top class riders prepared to appear for the Crusaders, before the club decided instead to revert to training alone. That decision is entirely their right of course; but doesn't stop a LOT of us out here regretting losing the league side we supported and for us it seems such a waste.. The mere fact that the likes of the Baseby bros are without a club in 2011 ( ) and there's a Crusaders' side appearing in a challenge match at the IoW in a couple of weeks time, puts this into greater focus... 3) Crickey, let's not run before we can walk! Sides in Maidstone, Dover and Bexley would be bloody marvellous but ATM we have no league side in the county, so I'd welcome a 'Kent' team frankly anywhere!! Big shout out for Lydd btw, with an excellent programme of events planned for 2011.. http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=61738&pid=1895279&st=0entry1895279

Hmm, a few comments to make. 1) yes, the promise of Speedway opening at Central Park has been there for some years but let's not forget now there is Planning Permission and Mr. Cearns has gone through a long and expensive planning legal battle to get such consent. This wouldn't - I humbly suggest - be something he'd have gone through only to see the plans falter. I remain very optimistic that we'll soon (even if by soon, we mean late 2011 or indeed 2012...) see the sport opening at what is, as you know, a simply top class venue... 2) yes, the circuit and set-up at Iwade isn't of course in the same class as Central Park but I totally disagree that the facilities at the OGS are so basic as to "struggle to stage viable 3rd Division level speedway" - CL Speedway was run there perfectly successfully in my book. It's a tragedy it didn't continue and I believe personally that there was no good reason it couldn't have continued and be continuing to this day... 3) And yes, you HAVE said this before about the name and I honestly think this debate needs to let go of... Mr. Cearns does not WANT to call the new track Sittingbourne...: he wants the 'bigger' name of Kent - to get county-wide support and not to be associated with the former league operation at Iwade... And on that I 100% agree with him.
-
As Roger Cearns himself was recently quoted in the Star, the plan is still to hold open meetings at Central Park later this year. Whether logistically this will end up being possible (covenant issue, which he did also refer to in Peter Oakes small article and of course building the sound barrier etc.)I couldn't rightly say. In terms of club and track names, Bryn is correct that the name 'Sittingbourne Speedway club' belongs to Mr. Arnold at Iwade. There's been much debate on this on the BSF but I can tell you that those planning Speedway at Central Park have NO intention of calling that new club 'Sittingbourne'. 'Kent' is a far likelier name.

Excellent news - let's hope so...
-
Well indeed, what I said about the Baseby bros also applies to another rider I know well and have maximum time for in Garry... If ONLY league Speedway could've carried on at Iwade....
-
100% agree... Aaron (and of course Mark) are huge losses from the NL as things stand...

Gerry Hussey Trophy 1972 - Rye House
Parsloes 1928 nearly replied to steve19620's topic in Years Gone By
Other option couuld be Taffy Owen.. RH was non-league at the time wasn't it so did it attract league riders..? -
Ah, of course that's right... Can't you get the stadium to make sure there's a space for you by that back wall..? After all you're one oif the longest serving supporters and they should be supportive to those who need wheel chair access... That would be an okay place to park though your car wash expenses will rise coz you get covered in dust there!!!
-
Cheers for the tip off... I often park there and come in the pits entrance... One time got stuck in the ref's box chatting long after the meeting, realised where the car was and paniced like crazy.. That night though it wasn't locked up but seemds attitudes have changed...
-
Hmm, second halves still very much part the present day at RH...

Usa Touring Team 2011
Parsloes 1928 nearly replied to SteveEvans's topic in National League Speedway
Hmm, maybe not... but if YOU can detect on here, a posting started by Steve Evans and one where he has clearly posted that his team were going to be at Stoke on 16 April but have moved it to Workington, any indication that in fact a 'different' Dream Team (sic) ARE going to be at Loomer Rd. that evening (other than Malc's assertion that this is the case ) you're a better man than me Gunga Din -

Fixtures in Star this week and on the BSPA site show the Team USA match at Stoke as still on for April 16th... -
Thanx for this Mike. Competing in six and winning FIVE consecutive State championships at such a junior age range (under 16) can't surely have ever been done before by anyone... Amazing...

When Boastie was around it WAS the olden days!!
-
I can only recall seeing the Fen Tigers once at Arena in 'third division' action: in '96 of course. A classic 38-40 win to the visitors who featured none other than my good pals Boastie and Dean Garrod in their line-up!! Oh and Boastie won the hyperbolic 'Ace of Arena' crown in the second half!!
-
BTW, Plough Lane was (actually still is! ) in SW17... SW19 is where they bash balls about with bits of wood...: something I'm sure you'd like to do to me hence the rash offer of buying you loads of beer..!!
-
Btw, definition of word "seems" is: "it appears; it is understood as true; it is said" And you'd just mentioned you'd "seen how the Hawks home meetings will be split" AND you then go on to argue over a number of postings about how bad this is... I'm something of a loss to understand how we were, in fact, meant to think that what you were saying was possibly not the case at all... Or did you just have a change of heart when Phil pointed out that Mildenhall (a QUARTER therefore of all the proper stand-alones in any case) WEREN'T riding at Lakeside but were at Rye!!
-
Oh okay...! I shall treat with caution any words of concern you post in the future...: presuming that actually you didn't mean them!!! BTW if you want lessons in memory, consult Mr. SCB - he's a regular circus act!!
-
Drinking alcohol never caused Bryn any problems!! Just me having a go at him all the time...!! Suppose I'll be buying him loads more beers this season!!
-
Are you 'aving a laff! You most certainly DID state this, prompting the whole of this recent 'mini-debate'...: or have you simply forgotten the following posting!!!!
-
Hmm, well it was RocketBen1 who made the statement about the fixtures being divided this way...: did wonder where he'd got this from but seemingly he was wrong in any case! And of course Phil you're right, it would've certainly had made sense for the Fen Tigers to have ridden one of the fixtures at Lakeside...
