The club I follow used to do little social media competitions as a way of advertising..so you share the post and so on...Anyway...I know of someone that won one of these.....it was a photo signed by the team. This person or any of their family had never been to speedway before so it worked that a new audience had been reached. Obviously having never been and being the winner they thought they would be admitted free of charge. This wasn't the case...so the club was expecting this person to travel from Colchester..okay not too far...and pay to get in to get prize...they obviously didn't bother. Shame in a way that they were not let in for nothing..they may have come back with their children....one of which does a blog and has over 200 thousand followers...and the blog is for motorbike bike racing. Sometimes I think clubs are very short sighted. Letting 3 people in for free...could have worked out more lucrative in the long term.

It's my opinion that people that have an interest in stats are unfashionable and socially inept.

I shall do a poll down the pub later...it will be full of football fans.....I shall ask if any of them give a single toss about the statistics of passes and distance run and the other stuff mentioned. I very much doubt the average fans could give a single one...I'm sure they just want to watch a good match with goals and their team winning.....you wouldn't hear a fan in the stand saying to his mate.. Our striker touched the ball 20 times last match and ran a distance of 400 metres and passed the ball so many times........the statistics are for the half hour chat on the build up to the game on the TV.

No I'm not utterly wrong....its my opinion. Believe it or not I'm allowed one.

More importantly they will need to change the rules, and then out bid other clubs wanting a good rider or 2

Speedway is geeky in its little way...not that it's a problem to me...I watch the racing and go home and maybe make comments about what I've seen on this forum...which is probably geeky Maybe more should be made of the statistics and geeky side of the sport as someone has suggested previously. Maybe 4 blokes on motorbikes isn't as appealing as putting numbers in boxes and crossing out names and putting other names in spaces. Each to their own and all that.

Yes some other sports fill in such things but I don't see many..in fact I've never seen anyone....but at speedway I would imagine a good 90 percent fill in the programme..Maybe even more. Next time I'm at or watching another sport I shall see if can see anyone do it. Speedway is 4 riders ..I can see where they finish, I've no need to write it down. Anyway, I think this has been done to death now.

That's very true....start with an average team and finish with a good one.

So not as many as compared to speedway fans??? I'm guessing it was brought in at speedway so it gives people something to do in between races. I've watched many sports on TV and been to a fair few and it's never a stand out thing I've seen the fans do . I go to superbikes, touring cars, moto gp..to name a few..and have never felt the need to write down the order they finish in, along with the majority of people at those sports I would imagine. So I imagine it's done at speedway more than any other sport. Not that I have a problem with that...but like I've said..I just find it strange.

That's the thing...I can't..... The announcer says what the scores are after every race...so I've no need to write it down on a piece of paper

It is .....I'm obviously a selective geek...are there any other sports where people fill in a programme to keep score??? I can't think of any..but maybe there is....Maybe all the other sports are missing out.

I think the poole track does actually produce good racing when it's in good condition....a good track should be the minimum a club should aim for every season.

Like I said..I know I'm in the minority....I just obviously don't have that inner geek in me.

I only put about the track as some think it's great..when it's clearly a heap....I'm just trolling

My father was even worse....he used to get home and then type it all out and keep statistics of things....then gave those statistics out at the next meeting.....I chose to sit no where near him... I think it's because of him that I feel a certain way about speedway fans...I try not to be like them.

How can they bring both back??? Jack has already signed and announced for somerset.

I don't buy a programme...but someone that sits near me does some score sheets...but I normally get bored of filling that in after a few races. To me it's still one of strangest parts of speedway ..people putting scores in a programme....but I realise I'm in the minority as most seem to do it.

If it's going to make speedway look stupid...then yes it will probably happen

Surely on the first visit all anyone would need to know is we are in red and blue and they in white and yellow/black, scores are 3210 and are added together for team score. Team with the highest score wins.

If I was going for the first time now ...and someone told me all the silly little rules...I think I would pretend to go to the loo and go and sit somewhere else....That's if I hadn't slashed my wrists in boredom beforehand

To be honest I've never had to tell anyone any rule or none rule....no one has ever asked me....I've also never managed to get anyone to come with me that's never been before. If I hadn't been going since I was a kid, I certainly wouldn't be a new follower now. In fact I'm now going less and less.

I had already said that in a previous post sort of. But I wouldn't go into the rules in detail as let's be honest they are rubbish and ruin the sport...and they change every year. You wouldn't tell someone this bloke can ride cos he is under 6 in one league so he can ride but that bloke can't even though some are over 6 can lol And you like the statistics and things like that..some don't...I would make a judgement on the person I would be talking to to too what I tell them.

Thing is..with speedway you just never know....Matt may have said to chris if you race for us next year you never have to race for us again??? And no one will notice as somerset can use Doyle.

If chris and jack hadn't already agreed to race for somerset..how did some of us know where they would go??? Maybe matt had agreed to let chris go to somerset...then the one over 8 rule was brought in..changing matt plans completely
