Biggest memory of Station Road was when Wolves had to use it for the Play-Off final in 1996 due to Monmore Green being updated. Will Beveridge rode a blinding ride in one heat I got my first speeding ticket on the way home My wife (then girl friend) was at home 7 months pregnant The track was ok, but the stadium left alot to be desired.

Suprised no one has mentioned Mark Loram yet. Going of memory alone, he has ridden for Hackney Ipswich Kings Lynn Poole Wolves Arena Essex Eastbourne Exeter any more ?
-
With the GP series being much harder to get into, the list may be adding a few names in future years, but at least some riders are getting Wild Card rides to say they have ridden on the big stage.
-
Always remember Colin Goody at Poole as he reminded me of the bald guy in "It Aint Alf Hot Ma'am"

Without checking the lists of who did and didn't ride, here are some names that spring to mind Dag Lovaas Chris Pusey Ray Wilson

Who's Going To Cardiff
T.N.T. replied to lady s's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I will be definatley going again to Cardiff as its a great day out and for a change, Wolves fans have TWO riders to cheer on (3 if Howe is wild card again). I will either drive home around 1am or kip in the car and set off around 6am. This year I'm not too sure if I will have any of my kids with me as last year my lad loved the day, but then wanted to go home at the interval ! -
Always remember George from his Birmingham days. Big moustache and if I remember rightly wore yellow leathers. Last I heard he was at Isle of Wight where he ran a pub (bed and breakfast).

Predictions For.......
T.N.T. replied to gaylord's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Would love to see Hans Andersen win it, but think over the season, Nicki P will be the man to beat and injury will be the only thing to stop him. Will go for Crumpy, Hans, AJ, Leigh and Nicholls to be next in line with Lindgren, Gollob, KK and Bjarne the next challengers. Tough season ahead for Bomber, Puk, Dribble, Holta and Herbie. -
The Golden Helmet was raced with best of 3 home, best of 3 away and if needed the best of 3 at a neutral track. In those days, riders were free to travel from Wimbledon toi Belle Vue for possibly two heats but when riders starting riding more in Sweden, Poland etc each week it was changed to the holder takes on the top scorer of that match. This took the prestige off the event while sometimes the holder was missing due to World Championship meetings and there was no match race run at all. Maybe the helmet could go to the winner of heat 15 in each match the present holder rides in ?

2007 Grand Prix Competition
T.N.T. replied to Steve Turner's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Cheers Steve for running this, I gave it my best shot and had 900,000 on Hans Andersen at 10/1 and had Bjarne and Rune both go out in the semi-finals, so despite finishing joint 97th on 1 point ...... I nearly did it ! Well done to the winners -

Final Gp, From Germany
T.N.T. replied to Steve Turner's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
With Hampel out, the big question is who will fill the last of the 8 qualifying places. Hoping Scott gets in there this year along with AJ, but both should be back in next year anyway. Nicki may be WC already, but its going to take something special stopping him win this one. -
#1 looks like a young John Esklidsen, but did he ride for Sheffield or Scunny ?

World Final V Grand Prix
T.N.T. replied to longlivefrankie's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
One day finals were great, but you have to move forward. The big down point in the one day finals was travelling to Sweden, Germany or wherever to see your star rider have an engine failure in heat one. Night Over. With the GP's there will no longer be 1973 and 83 results. -
German Gp Wildcard
T.N.T. replied to rickmiller's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Good Luck to Christian, but I cant see a repeat of 83 here. -
Quite agree that Danny and James are ahead of Josh at the moment, but this was obviously a weak area and if Josh was allowed a race, it should have been tried really. As for Lewis . . think he would fit in well at Wolves and I'm sure Eastbourne would be willing to loan one of our Scandanavian assets in return
-
OK - Seems it was Josh Auty at reserve and not Tai. Weird choice really considering his Conference and U-18 Titles. However, King started with a win, then after an engine failure he struggled with his bikes as he only beat the German tail enders. James Wright was much the same, picking his points off the non scoring riders only. Poland showed them how to do it in this years WTC when Walasek suddenly had a foot injury that lasted until the presentation when he was dancing around like John Travolta. Team GB were obviously dropping points from these two, so it should have been decided which one was more injured than the other to allow Josh to come in. The end of the day, good showing by all, but sadly a few points shy in the end. 2009 Tai, Josh, Lewis, King (?), Haines.
-
Team GB have the U-18's British Champion on the sidelines, Daniel King is obviously struggling with his bikes and James Wright isnt exactly pulling up trees ! Why oh Why wasnt Tai tried out here ? Good effort by the team to lose by just 4 points in Poland, but it will be interesting to see why we didn't use a quality rider when he is there.

2007 Grand Prix Competition
T.N.T. replied to Steve Turner's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
SCB did well to only lose 2 Credits. But unfortunately for him, it was his only 2 Credits...so he's out Scott finally reaches a GP Final and the Welsh Wizard doesn't have the faith in him that an ardent Wolves fan does Cheers Scott for getting me back in the top three, shame I picked the wrong one out of Zagar, Bjarne and Holta who were all big point gambles. -
No Double Points Opponent starts of 15 metres twice Twice a team manager can nominate an opponent to start of 15 metres when his team are 8 or more behind. (each occasion must be different riders) end score will be 48-42, 51-39, 46-44 not 51-43 etc More passing also
-
Any team that needs tacticals are cleary struggling. So why do we ask riders to try and score double against riders that are on the night scoring better. Why not instead of asking a rider to score double, a team manager can nominate a rider from the opposing team to start 15 metres behind. This could happen twice, using different riders in different heats. This way a match should end 48-42 or 47-43 or 51-39 not these 52-44 or 55-37. It also promotes more passing

Due to different standards, what clubs can afford, regionalising wont really work as a main league, however for a British League where EL teams tone down, these five groups could be used. Berwick Glasgow Edinburgh Newcastle Redcar Workington Sheffield Stoke Belle Vue Wolverhampton Birmingham Kings Lynn Mildenhall Coventry Peterborough Scunthorpe Eastbourne Rye House Reading Ipswich Lakeside Isle of Wight Newport Poole Somerset Swindon Example; Birmingham V Wolves (which happens on 22nd and 24th October) BIRMINGHAM; Jason Lyons, Henning Bager r/r, Manuel Hausinger, Henrik Moller, Phil Morris, Lee Smart, Ben Powell WOLVES; David Howe, Tai Woffiden, Ronnie Correy, Magnus Karlsson, Nicolai Klindt, Will Lawson, Joe Haines. Just an idea
