Should be another cracking night with two rivals going head to head. Berwick have great strength in numbers but Newcastle probably have the best heat leader trio in the PL. If I had to put my neck out, I'd say Berwick to take it just over the 30 races.

Berwick vs Sheffield... 18th May
Robinh88 replied to Shadders's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Falling crowds seems to be rather prevalent nationally sadly. Even the forum is devoid of much debate and positivity. Summers flying though -
A year or maybe two before you. Double header Vs Rye House and Newcastle. I think I raised some valid points bj.

£17 for 15 minutes "action", cheap compared to Edinburgh up the road. The limit was further reduced by the promoters, so surely a reduction in admission? Nah feck off, we'll charge an extra £2 on last year. Enjoy what you have today because admission will continue to rise, and the quality will get worse. Of course as always, it will be the fans who will be blamed.

Edinburgh v Berwick 3/5/2019

2002 we were defeated by the Sean Wilson/Simon Stead led Sheffield. Less said about the PL meeting later that season. -
Edinburgh v Berwick 3/5/2019

Berwick should be able to keep it close or better still win. Not the best Edinburgh team I've seen over the years. The fact Berwick could win at ARMADALE on Friday, symbolises to me the continual decrease in the Sport today. Edinburgh 47-43 (Wells to carry the Monarchs home) -
I thought the racing was rather mediocre pre the rennovations

The UK before my time had an abundance of top riders. Sometimes in the same team, e.g KL Knights (Crump, Adams) in 2000. Will GP riders fully commit to the demands of an EL season? I have my doubts about that. Dropping down a league minus 16 years, the PL used to attract some of the best upcoming European stars (PUK, Zagar, Kylmikorphi, Janusz Kolodzeij). I don't think British Speedway should be held to ransom too bring back for e.g Woffinden, Hancock and Zagar etc. Our glory days are over for now, maybe they will come back.... someday?

Great race especially considering it is from Wroclaw.

Started very well on Friday night for the "green lions". Could be a future world champion imo.

I agree with col on this point As for worst field? 2004 would take some beating

Workington have a great race track never seen a poor meeting there. -
I'm not sure even the masters of Berwick's propaganda network, can sell the current crop to the fans. Another winter of: cutbacks, reduced points limit and a team with no quality rider in quite a few locations. For £17 a go, pass.

I think British speedway generally is overpriced for what it actually offers. That being said every once in a while you see a great meeting. -

On a trip down memory lane yesterday looking through past statistics. What came to my attention was the number 3 position. I noticed Peter Carr rocking up at Berwick with an 11 plus average (Jan Anderson's full house). Paul Bentley also had a great season from the same position a season later. Was this rider preference or foresight from the team manager? Doubt it would have made much difference if any to either riders scoring, had they been at say 1 or 5. But giving say heat 13 a miss at Stoke against Pickering and Staechman and going in 12 and against "Buzz" Burrows and Dean Felton is probably another guaranteed 3 points for the high performing visiting number 3. Nothing against Dean he did a great job partnering Wesley Waite in 2000. I think back then you could ride at either 1, 3 or 5 if you had the highest average. But it seems to me number three was the easier number to ride at. A ride less against Ray Morton/Sean Wilson back in 2000 per programme rides would be another consideration for rider/tm. Maybe the rules today in this regard have been a positive change? Safeguarding Heat 13's as the main race of the night.

Don't mind Newcastle tbf probably prefer it too Berwick actually

2019 Championship Improvers
Robinh88 replied to Supersub's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
With the 4 point decrease in overall points limit, shouldn't riders averages improve naturally? Because primarily of a lower standard most seasons? -
Workington was probably one of the best race tracks in the country as well.
-
Not sure if the 38 point limit justifies a price increase? The new limit suggests a lesser quality product. Also the limit would surely have been agreed by the promoters who run the individual clubs? Berwick at £15 is not too extortionate. Would I be willing to pay an extra £3.50 per week to see the class of Ricky Wells? Guess I shall leave that one to Edinburgh.
