British Final...then And Now
spanner47 replied to customhouseregular's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I originally felt sorry for Robert, but if he cant be bothered to ride for Peterborough tonight, when Danny and Gino can, then maybe the decision makers have a point about him. -
Who Was Best, Louis Senior Or Louis Junior?
spanner47 replied to Terry's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Certainly agree with the old 2nd half races. Many a time at Foxhall during the Tiger, Shrimp and Billy era we had to wait until the Champion of the Evening final to get the best race of the night. As for who's the best? Just a shame Tiger started so late, and Chris had that awful crash in Poland, so maybe we were denied an Ipswich World Champion, but for a small Town in Suffolk, we'll take a couple on the rostrum. -
Loads of time to get back themselves back, Ryanair have 4 flights from Billund which is only 50km from Vojens. But the bikes will have to follow, let's just hope that they've both got something decent left over here for this meeting.
-
Hopefully Gino and Danny have already booked their flights back from Billund for Friday Morning. I'm usually the eternal optimist, but unless we start getting wins where we're not expected too, we wont make the play offs. This is the first season for a long time where there's a number of weak teams, the others at the top are all winning at these places, and as we've dropped points at home, we've got to do something special sooner rather than later.

Edinburgh V Ipswich (pl) 5/6/15 @ 7.30pm
spanner47 replied to Mr Blobby's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Cant argue with that. So far on our travels, if 3 of the 6 perform well, we scrape a point, when 4 of them turn up we can win, but I reckon all 6 will have to score well to get anything at fortress Armadale. -
Spot on. But how many paid? Take away the freeloaders and season ticket holders, surely not many were stupid enough to part with their cash. For years I've always considered Speedway fans to have short memories and be very gullible, but it was good to see this is changing, well it certainly is going by the crowd at Brandon last night. As HT mentioned earlier, we used to get ripped off after heat 6, but it never seemed to rain that much in the olden days. But it appears once fans have been ripped off by this heat 10 rule, they say never again if the forecast is dodgy.

I remember that one, but reserve one had been gating better all night, and at the time I'd have pondered over which one to go with. As for the Newcastle meeting, apart from the reserve race, looked like they both had bad meetings. -
Fair point, but it wasn't the fans decided on "that rule", you know the one. 10 Heats, call it off and we'll laugh all the way to the bank while the fans go home short changed. I'll never go near a track when there's a threat of rain while that rule is in place, and I'm sure most sensible fans agree.

Sorry mate, just been through a load of meetings and cant find the one that you're on about. I've found one where Stefan had only 1 point and was replaced, but please point me in the right direction. I assume the meeting was still in the balance or you wouldn't have mentioned it. -

What's with this constant sniping over our new manager. All he has control over is switching the reserves, and choosing 2 riders for heat 15, B M had absolutely nothing to do with the way the team rode on Saturday night. Phil has got his selections spot on for heat 15 all season, a couple on here have suggested (with hindsight) a couple of reserve switches he could have made, but with our current reserves form, that's easier said than done, you don't know what you're going to get with those 2, one race they look very good, the next they cock up. Phil, if you read this nonsense on here don't take any notice, the comments from some on here aren't reflected on the terraces, well certainly not with the ones I stand with. As I've said on here many times, when Wolves are near the top, they tell us what a great Manager Peter Adams is, but when they're near the bottom they don't say he's crap. It's all about the riders!!! -

After a couple of poor meetings and poor performances this was excellent. We've been whinging about the track, but tonight it was spot on, not many tracks you can pass from heat 1 - heat 15. Love the way Gino can get so much out of the inside line, even in the last race when the dirt had moved out. I'd love to know what the score would have been if the race stopped at the first bend, very close I'd imagine. So great entertainment for the fans with so much passing. But I suppose a cynic might worry about our gating against a stronger team, but sod that, let's just enjoy the fact we actually got £16 worth tonight, and not many Speedway fans around the Country can often say that. -
John Cook Talks A Lot Of Sense

Sadly, here we go again. We know the sport is dying, but those with a vested interest just plod along hoping for the best. What other sport in the World can you still get away with cheating? It would be so simple to stop these rolling starts, but nothing has ever been done. Obviously that's just one of many things wrong with the sport, but others have mentioned those. I consider myself to be a keen follower, next few weeks I'll be at Veenoord, Riga, Diedenbergen and Sibiu, but apart from popping up the road to Foxhall, I certainly don't bother with any other Speedway in this Country anymore, and even that is trying my patience these days. -

20 years ago I'd have certainly agreed, but the FA Cup final is well down the list of things to watch these days. Most of the teams can't be bothered with it, so the fans do likewise. Hopefully Arsenal will be 3 up at half time, then the odd fan that might have thought about what to do, will come to Foxhall. Going back to the track, I agree they've got to try and make it grippy early on, then the track will still produce some decent racing later in the meeting, just hope they don't go over the top with the watering this time. -
Redcar V Ipswich 28- 5- 15
spanner47 replied to Baldyman's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Not getting excited over this result. There appears to be 3 whipping boys in the league at the moment, so to make up for that defeat at home, we've got to beat better teams than this at home, or we wont be making the play offs. Appears Rohan only turns it on when he feels like it, I wanted him back as I thought this could be his season, but clearly I was wrong. Nice to see no one is having a pop at Phil this Morning. -

That's a bit better. Nice to see 5 out of the 6 getting a win. Hopefully that'll boost the confidence of certain members of the team. -

Surely the riders will be busting a gut tonight. After going out of one cup, they'll be a few weeks where they don't earn any money if they fail. -
The way Rohan was going into the bends last night, there's no way anyone would have team rode with him. He was all over the place, not sure whether it was his arm problem or he didn't like the track, but Danny was right to clear off and let him do his own thing.

If he does, then he should know better. I'm sure the riders want a consistent surface. -
Ipswich Witches Vs Berwick Bandits Koc 2nd Leg
spanner47 replied to Pob's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Firstly, well done to Berwick. But why is Bob producing a track that certain riders don't like? If he persists with this type of track, then we should do what Lakeside do and have a junior meeting beforehand. After 6/7 heats it's perfectly ok, and only Rohan continued to go into the bends like a novice. Once the track settled down there was passing on the inside and the outside, I admit if it started like that it would slicken off towards the end, but at least our lot should have built up a lead by then. You are not going to change the mentality of certain riders, so give them a track that they want, not what you want Bob. Apologies to Bob if he'd been instructed to do this, but as we talked about tonight, the track is at it's best when it's rained all day, and he hasn't been able to do his "magic". -

Tampere Gp
spanner47 replied to ProudtobeaBrummie's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
In the unlikely event anyone on here is thinking of going to Tampere next season, just one tip. Buy the cheapest seat and sit anywhere you want. Before the event the cheapest seat was 55 euros, but on the day this was reduced to 50. I've been to numerous stadiums around the World and sometimes ended up with a better seat than what I paid for, but never has the cheapest ticket got me into the most expensive seat, there's always a steward checking the posh seats, but not here. So either the Finns are very the trusting, or they just don't give a stuff. But I didn't complain, obviously I still didn't get value for money, but I'd have been very narked, had I been stupid enough to pay full whack.
