  1. Gem, although there are handsome women out there, usually i guess it would be more appropiate to say pretty, cute or beautiful. according to some members of this forum, you are still... pretty. but.. meanwhile, me, chongo, ganja bill, one eye etc are going back to lick our wounds.. cuz when a person starts out ugly and just gets uglier as they age,.. well... life is was and will always be a b***h! heh heh, like i really care.. admit i have a bit of a hump on though, some of us were just.. shall we say.. cheated.. from the start.. But hey! i have a good personality.. sometimes, i guess.
  2. i think all of this comes down to the fate of most handsome or good looking people. they have more to lose even when they change only slightly, as they age. but take into consideration those of us who really didnt have the advantage of being good looking.. peter o toole, when he starred in Lawrence of Arabia was really at his peak, lookswise at that time. and look at him 5 years later... but i say, at least he has it on film, and he was handsome.. two things that cant be said about me or my friends.. me, chongo, ganja bill, one eye and frank the gimp.. course one eye thinks he is a shade better looking than the rest of us, but if chongo was a bit taller, he would have the edge on ganja bill. besides, even though bruce did try to turn to another career where looks counted, i dont think he ever gave the impression to anyone that he thought he was anything special looks wise to begin with, everyone else did that for him.. he was simply an extremely talented racer,.. arguably one of the best ever.. i am proud that he made the effort to make the trip and show up to reconnect with his many supporters again.. but,.. we all have our opinions on different subjects,.. and that is what this forum is all about..
  3. i think Olsen was focused,.. a bit macavellian.. the ends justify the means just like all world champs. there wasnt at the time anyone tougher back then,.. and he would just as soon stick an oponnent in the fence as look at him.. bottom line.. great. realise i am not Politically Correct in my view, but he really was tough, and talented..
  4. sorry to hear about Cyril passing away.. Condolences to his family and many friends..
  5. sorry TMC, tis my nature to drift.. seriously, there are very few countries that have produced more determined riders than Poland. now that they have good equiptment, bit of a different story than back then.. damn, its raining again outside, well not like it could rain inside.. unless i had a pipe break,.. is it raining there?
  6. aww, he was quite the jokester..at least you didnt get the itching powder poured down the trousers... gotta let bye gones be bye gones.. i am sure there is a good explanation for the gum..He probably thought you could use a good old fashioned clean out..
  7. sounds like a Grateful Dead concert back in the 70's to me..
  8. are you the same Tony that John Davis talked into chewing a few pieces of ex lax chewing gum at a meeting years back? This story made the rounds, was it you? If it is true, do you still think it was a crappy trick?
  9. so what did you do? i didnt know what to do... so i bit the pillow...did i say that? sorry,.. so,.. you a boxer?
  10. yeah,.. well he was a damn tough street fighter,.. ner ner ner.. ok on the same note.. steve Gresham, and if you say no he will hunt you down.. he, i have heard from good sources, is a contributor on this forum. go ahead,.. i dare ya!
  11. and still competitive. he should be in the record books. what a great attitude. not something you see very often, and this, probably the most dangerous sport in the world... once again go Posa.. me and my drinkin buddies from the bahamas will be cheering you on. old guys rule!
  12. great news on Per Olof Serenius. i heard he bought two brand new bikes. hope he gets thru. got some friends from Bahamas who booked tickets for Assen in hopes he would be racing. man.. hasnt he ever heard of gettin old? go Posa!
  13. tough call on Zenon or Gollub. Gollub is mighty good,... but i would say.. in his prime.. Zenon would be equal. I dare say if you asked him who he looked up to, it probably would be Zenon or Edward Jancarz.. at that time, they were heroes in their own country. i remember a picture taken in the rain from the european final? at gothenburg maybe in 74 of Zenon on the back wheel in the first third of the corner, great mike patrick photo. plus it was bucketing down with rain. that pic says it all about Zenons ability.. As for Gollubs age, many riders remember the greats as children..
  14. i think we are in agreement what a truly nice person he was.. his sense of humour was second to none, always laughing and joking, but what a racer he was! had his peak happened after the iron curtain fell, what a difference that would have made. Edward Jancarz comes to mind as another. really talented, hence the nickname steady eddie..lots of style and full of talent. their system was harsh, from what i understand, they had to be married before they could leave the country. kids were a plus to ensure their return. also the money they earned went directly back to their country, and they were given a small stipend to live off. that is what i heard anyway. was much tougher for them, then others..
  15. i remember Plech who didnt speak english when he first came over, finally learned a sentence. the announcer asked him to say a few words to the crowd and he said.." I would like a hamburger please". i remember when he was the polish wonderkid. unfortunately his success came at a time when poland was under the fist of communism, and after he went abroad with Maugers group and overstayed his visa, in aust or usa, cant remember, he disappeared from the scene for awhile. rumours were he got drafted in the army, but then the authorities sent out a release saying he suffered heart problems and was staying home for the season. always a known jokester and fun loving person, when he returned the following year, he was a shadow of himself personality wise. terrific rider..
  16. from what i hear, Ian was a good rider, and always a gentleman. credit to the sport. always carried himself well, good ambassador for speedway.

    Scott Autrey

they should, sort of like the movie Rocky.. off topic, but think Bernie Persson was a great...

    Scott Autrey

i think all valid points, but do think scott autrey had the advantage of settling at bailie house, adopting his english family, namely the middleditches, something the others didnt have. its not like he had to move into a dingy flat on his own to figure which way was up or down...so in some ways i think he had an advantage...i can sure think of worse scenarios.....

    New Cross

wish i could help ya on that one sounds a bit like a rugby song to me though...
  20. yep,.. that sounds like Sprouts alright..
  21. i believe him to have been a well spoken ambassador for the sport, and pretty damn tough. as per the book, bet you would have some luck on e bay in nz, msn? good luck. ronnie moore was one of my idols as well, and if you have good luck tell us how you did it. i know norbold, dd, and a few others would be interested, well maybe.
  22. oh i guess i left out the most important word... include.. "Grasstrack.".. ahemm.
  23. did you used to race in the 70's? if you are who i think you are, i liked your style..
  24. and while we are at it,.. tough one? Forget the rest, Chris Pusey was the toughest! He would eat and spit out most mentioned here... for breakfast...
