  1. look how far Lofqvist is hanging off the back of the bike too. Jessup was brilliant. 8)
  2. Hackney was a dangerous track in ways, but no more so than others of the day. Kelly Moran, split pelvis and poor Denny Pyeatt killed. Still had to be the hardest track to find ever, but what an atmosphere, talk about working class pleasure. I met my ex wife there in the stands by the pits, actually a good memory, Hackney was, after all said and done, a grand old lady. She took and gave. Barry Thomas was King back then, and Len Silver the effervesant showman. Sad day my friends! :?
  3. Best of luck to you and the Missus today Grachan!
  4. i have a video of the 73? final at Sheffield last heat decider with PC around the boards passing Anders, and Eric Boocock beating Tommy Jansson to take the title. Same one Grachan? :?

can broke down old sailors who never rode a bike in their lives go too? :? long live Dick Hammer..Greatest man to ever put his leg over a motorcycle.. 8) Hey Wes Lake, if I take a shower, can I get in? :?
  6. Yer right Lupus. Never seen anyone show up with dirty bikes and "Leathers" and do so well as those two. What about the wheelies Kelly did half way around the turns while waving his right leg to everyone in the pits? God only knows what those two would have done had they taken it all serious! Kelly,... Peter Craven reincarnated? Just maybe..... PS What was the name of the club at Eastbourne? Legend stuff! :-o
  7. Anyone have any good Kelly stories? This thread is not meant to be a put down to the great little man, so negative ones are off limits OK? Could be on track or off. Mine which I heard thru good sources. Kelly was in a pub after a meeting and got into an argument with a Rugby player as to who was the best Jockey ever. Of course, the Rugby player being British said Lester Piggott. Kelly would answer Willie Shoemaker! This went on for some time, until the big fella has finally had enough, picks Kelly up to eye level and head butts him. After this was done, the big fella puts Kelly down. Kelly looks him in the eye, once again says Willie Shoemaker, goes and sits down to finish his drink. Tough, all 5'2 of him. One of the all time greatest talents! 8)
  8. Havvy went downhill when he cut his dreadlocks off. Gotta remember he was the first and only Rastafi World Champ, and prob the last for awhile. Jah lives Gary! 8) Long live Bob Marley!!!
  9. Congrats to Nicki, however I do think if Jason was going to win it this was his year in the closing stages, especially with TR being a bit off, of which he probably wont be next season. Still, he is hungry, will spend many hours in the workshop in the off season, and I do think a sports Doc is a good thing, positive attitude with visualisation does work, ask Ivan.. Next year will be a cracker.. :!:
  10. Hopefully he changed his name to Doogan Stonebreaker, maybe thats what happened? 8)
  11. Darija, next time you see him, say Dirk Resto Dirk Resto Dirk Resto. I think it fits him.. Just my opinion. Nice to see up and coming talent... 8) Plus most of us westerners cant say his name properly.. I think Doogan Stonebreaker is another good possibility too.
  12. fantastic racer.. if i was his manager though, i would change his name to Dirk Resto. gotta a cool ring to it... kinda sounds like a sailboat captain.. 8)
  13. I think the problem might be that some on this forum have 5 or 6 or more names, and they still might only pay a pound when they should pay 5 or 6? Is it me??? 8) Uhhhhh, did you say sarcastic comments? :?
  14. Good topic Steve, couldnt agree more... I think the powers that be lack a bit of vision at times, and this was one. Come on, a bit of vision please! 8)
  15. well done brick, especially the eastern bloc riders from the 70's, all in the same mold as Vaclav Verner. I heard that ever since he got jumped by Googi at coventry, he always had a hammer nearby to make sure it never happened again. Just ask Middlo! 8)
  16. Hey LT! Just cuz you dont know any Swedish or Irish or Czek Birds, it aint our fault!! I would think it might be yours, having said that, I agree, no more on the birds from me!! 8) Till tomorrow...... I thought you were cooler than that...
  17. Hey J man, gotta agree on some good points you posted, well thought out dude, but the writing is on the wall, it is over. JC will be the new Champ. He may have had some of the old Abbo magic working for him. Where ya been lately? 8)
  18. Well Mark, since this is your thread and now that I have official permission, lets hear more about the Czek ladies? Before I close, I will say Cradley was a true working class club and facilitiy, and I agree that the track allowed some great races. And agreed, some of the best racers ever, cut their teeth on that track. Now, what about the girls from the Czek Republic? 8)
  19. Well Ill put it this way Mark, a fit spanish woman on an Eddie Bull bike certainly could have won any World Final in those days on an Eddie Bull bike. Guess my point is,... Eddie never got the credit due. Besides,.. wanna hear bout Irish Girls??? 8)
  20. Bbbbaaack ttthen they didnt have sports bbbras. 8)
  21. With utmost respect, but any swedish woman could have won a one off World Final in that era on an Eddie Bull bike.. 8)
  22. Correct Steve, you talk about close to winning it, he was brilliant on the night. Also, for my last comment on the subject, a racer is only as good as his last race, and supporters have a long memory. Isnt it better to be remembered at your peak than on the down hill slide? And to add to this, I loved watching Soren and Christer race. Hard chargers the both of them.. May God bless the both of them, and rest in peace fellas, many good memories..
  23. I think Eddie Bull had a little bit to do with the 5 World Champs in 20 years... 8)
