Can anyone tell me why 22's were traded for 19'' tyres, and when? I cant come up with either for the life of me. :?

Oh, believe me.. I understand, it is a classic case of forgetting who foots the pay cheque. C'mon, Television? Men from the boys and all that? I just hope he watched it and learned about basic PR,whatever anyone says, it looked bad..Hey , surf is up, gotta go...... 8)

And I was standing near there and I heard him ask what shape his bike was in and if IT was in good enough shape for the re-run. I dare anyone to top that, tough spells Phil Crump, and no tantrums.. 8) -

I totally agree Steve, Phil left some big shoes to fill and he didnt have the advantage of the GP. Even when he broke his thigh at Sheffield, not a cuss word came out of his mouth, I have no time for foul mouthed so called sportsmen. If a person likes that they should support heavyweight boxing. When one is on television, in the homes of millions, watch the mouth.... The price of the exposure is very small, just act civilised as hard as it may be in the heat of the moment, say it on tape, it is forever....Of course some of the bs is better suited to the World Wrestling Federation, all the Idiots buy that. 8) -

It is really ridiculous, he should not have done it. Simple. On the telly, you have a chance to sell yourself, and if that is the best he can do, well, he can go hang out with Iron Mike Tyson. I would imagine his Dad the great Phil, may have had a word with him. Disgusting. -
Krissie, Am I next???? :?

Way to go,.. I do think the original painting would be icing on the cake though DD. Hey, we have had our moments, but I have always respected your art, I am not blind, I see what you do. That side of you humbles me JB.
-
How about the winner receives an original PAINTING done by none other than DD?

Thanks, was very cool, remembered the Internationale was one of the most prestigious meetings of the year. Wasn't the body coulour a symbol of the world with lat and 8) lon lines drawn on it? May be wrong, will defer to you on this one DD.

Absolutey full of people, a couple of trumpet players in the stands as well, lots of needle, fantastic atmosphere, never forgotten! The noise was certainly adding to the drama. Cant remember who won but as I said they were both equals at the time, could not have been scripted better.
-
Dont hold me to it, but I believe in 73 or 74 the Internationale at Wimbledon which had a runoff between Olsen and Michanek, crowd to the rafters, was as electric as anything I have ever seen, such needle between two equals at the time. 8)

Here we go again, how about Tommy?

I may be way off base, but I thought Handicapped racing was banned after Peter Craven was killed in a handicaped race? Sort me out on this one......

Are you thinking of the CR110, Sandman? That was it, just couldnt think. What a beautiful sound, and they had little handlebars!
-
Besides, I am the one who was toasted JB.!

WWTBP, Yes Egon Mullers were higher and it was as Steve Hone said, the basic Longtrack bars adjusted for speedway. Kellys were a bit shorter and turned down a bit flatter as he was quite a bit smaller than the average rider, 5'2? I guess his wingspan wasnt quite so big!
-
Hey DD, I really dont want to stray from handlebars, so this is last time... What was the little brother 50cc to the cr93? I saw one in a club race and what a beautiful bike! And by the way, it had little tiny handlebars! :?
-
Is it me, or am I right on this one? Plus, DD, before you get upset just think of the sweet sound of a Honda CR 93 in full song....

I remember that the Ole Olsen bars had the right side turned up higher than the Mauger bars. Also, the racers from the sixties had bigger bars because of the lack of power? Took a lot more physical power then to turn? Do the riders have that much more power to be able to use the toothpick handlebars now? Or is it because of no dirt?
-
I read an article in Classic Racer on the 50cc bikes and the twins had pistons the size of largish thimbles? :?

I am hoping someone will know where they are. When I looked on another thread and saw Howard Coles name mentioned the memory came back. In the photos I saw back in the late 70s or early 80s the man who fabricated these was a bit elderly. Still, it was so typical of the time when there were so many engineers working from their workshops doing beautiful restorations etc, maybe skills learned from WW2? My engineer friend decided to try it himself and built a complete set of forks and front wheel,(was going to be a Weslake) and quit because of the demands and time involved. After viewing the pictures and article, he was extremely impressed to say the least...Oh well, ..... :? When you think of the engineering required on the little 50cc roadracing twins from the 60s, with piston size etc, done by Suzuki, etc, it just boggles the mind at least to me, that someone could build something so small that runs. Of course the litle model plane engines show it can be done....
-
I may have been wrong on the scale but these bikes were a foot in length? Had running engines and if I remember there were two completed. I have an engineer friend who saw photos in maybe Motorcycle news on them and he said to me the skill was unbelievable. They are I am quite sure still out there. One was a JAP and the other a Jawa. Even the carbs were scaled down , working and accurate. I believe it was an older man named Cole, maybe his son rode in the 60's or 70's. Yes I am a bit sketchy on this and that is why I started this thread, to find out.
