Pedersen Gary Havelock Sam Ermolenko Tony Rickardsson Billy Hamill Greg Hancock Mark Loram Nicki Pedersen Jason Crump Chris Holder Tai Woffinden Plus Barry Briggs and Ove Fundin at the Golden Greats lol Tomasz Gollob is the only one I never got to see ride in the flesh in the 'modern era'
  2. Erik won in Gothenburg (84)Bradford(85) and Vojens(88)
  3. It was also half term, which brings in a few more.
  4. Don't think the score will be as close this time ,so 54-36 to the Monarchs.
  5. Bruce Penhall 1981 Egon Muller 1983 Erik Gundersen 1984/85/88 Hans Nielsen 1987/89
  6. http://www.sheffieldspeedway.co/statistics17 Talking of averages,the away and total averages for the two Josh's are wrong. I make them, Josh Gz H.4m 18r 45p 3b 10.67ave 10.00wb (as website) A.3m 14r 28p 2b 8.57ave 8.00wb T.7m 32r 73p 5b 9.75ave 9.13wb Ipswich 6+1 from 4 Worky 11+0 from 5 Scun 11+1 from 5 Josh B H.4m 16r 26p 5b 7.75ave 6.50wb (as website) A.3m 13r 16p 4b 6.15ave 4.92wb T.7m 29r 42p 9b 7.03ave 5.79wb Ipswich 4+1 from 4 Worky 2+1 from 5 Scun 10+2 from 4 Which are quite different from the ones on the website.If they aren't corrected then the Tigers team average will be wrong when they've completed 4h/4a. As for tonight 53-37...
  7. Jimmy Nilsen, supposedly the new star of Swedish speedway in the mid 80s (and he did have a decent career) but was dull to watch.I was never sold on Bobby Schwartz either, possibly because he never looked comfortable around Owlerton and I never saw him on smaller circuits.
  8. It was a hard manoeuvre by Ben,but he didn't make contact with Todd or his bike (it happened right in front of me) so the ref called it right.
  9. Ken Carpenter,(always with his hat on,I seem to remember ! ) a familiar face on the infield at Owlerton and elsewhere in the 1980s/90s.A lot of his work was in the Speedway Mail.
  10. Best Sheffield winning the PL title in 1999/02 Sheffield winning the KO Cup in 02 Shawn Moran beating Kenny Carter in a runoff for the 1985 Overseas Final title Worst Witnessing Erik Gundersen's career ending and life changing crash at 1989 WTC at Bradford Sheffield closing in 1989. Losing the KO cup semi to Edinburgh in a last heat decider in 1999,Cost the Tigers the quadruple!

  12. Both are Consideration lists if that helps. As I'm abit younger than most of the posters on this thread,my 69/88 list contains more late 1970's and 80's riders.

  14. Ty rode for Wolverhampton and joined Sheffield a few weeks into 2014,but got hit by a bad thigh injury that he tried to ride on with.He had to miss the rest of the season eventually. Those meetings he did when injured caused problems with his rolling average in 2015.
  15. I've asked my dad for his favourite Tigers 1 to 7 and what his choice of all time 1-7 would be... Period 1960 to present day Favourite 1 to 7 Jim Airey,Arnie Haley,Bengt Larsson,Roman Matousek,Shawn Moran,Sean Wilson,Simon Stead. All time 1 to 7 Jim Airey,Jack Kitchen,Arnie Haley,Shawn Moran,Kelly Moran,Reg Wilson,Doug Wyer.
  16. Indeed they were TB,but I only saw them ride on the handful of times when dad took me to Owlerton between 1977 and 79 so I didn't really appreciate them at the time perhaps. My real period is 1980 onwards,Doug had one more season with us and Reg had that bad crash against Birmingham,I don't think he was ever quite the same rider after that.
  17. Shawn Moran,Kelly Moran,Sean Wilson,Simon Stead,Andre Compton,Roman Matousek,Ricky Ashworth. My Tigers team is perhaps abit modern, only Shawn and Kelly make it from the British League era.I know Sean was also around from 86 to 88 but its from 1999 that he's included. Didn't include Reg or Doug as they were past their best when I really started to watch. A historical best Sheffield from 1960 onwards might be.... Shawn Moran,Arnold Haley,Reg Wilson,Doug Wyer,Jim Airey,Clive Featherby,Sean Wilson

  19. Hugh has Dutch Grandparents,he joined Sheffield on a 5.00 ave back in 2009.
  20. Philip Rising posted this on the Belle Vue 2017 thread... "THEY didn't run the SWC, BSI did. BSI had a staging agreement with them but only a few days before the event had to cough up tens of thousands of pounds to ensure that the meeting went ahead."
  21. I think the two Jacks would be on 3 as they haven't ridden in the former PL while Nathan Greaves (for example) has and failed to reach 3.00 (current green sheet 2.32) so I assume that what these lines the statement refers to.. "The only difference in team building rules between the leagues is that Championship clubs must include a British youngster with a three-point average. And in a bid to help young riders get team spots, any rider who hasn’t achieved a three-point average will come in on a minimum of 2." As ever Its not entirely clear. And I see we've "drawn" Edinburgh again!
  22. Thats the 2002 team and much like Somerset this season,no one really gave it much of a chance! Redmond and Allott rode in 2001 though. Clegg maybe, notsure what Todd Kurtz would bring,Brady on the other hand...
  23. Jason 8.55 Josh 5.02 Kyle 7.18 Dimi 6.91 Bellego 7.63 Arthur 3.79 Jack 3.00 42.08
