Sheffield don't seem keen to move up at the moment, this what Damien Bates said in the Star a few weeks back... "There would have to be a lot of money on the table and I can't see that happening" "There isn't really anything that tempts us the way things are at the moment and we are happy with the way we are right now"

Well he would ride in the rerun,as he had a chance of 3rd place overall, didn't look comfortable though.

Most Luckless Performance In A Meeting By A Rider
Andrew replied to Joe Beevers's topic in Years Gone By
Just looked this one up TB,it was against Reading in 1984. Shawn was excluded in heat one when his chain broke and Tim Hunt crashed into the back of him. In his second heat his engine siezed up. In his third heat he touched the tapes and was excluded. And lastly in his fourth heat, the bike had a electrical failure and he ground to a halt. Tigers lost 38-40! -
Bit of detective work needed on this one... Sheffield Tiger Cubs v Halifax Junior Dukes was on Thursday 31st May 1984 held as a full second half meeting.(13 heats) The programme for that meeting isn't in our collection (maybe my dad missed that one) however there is a mention of the away leg at Halifax (no date though) in the Sheffield v Exeter programme dated 7th June... On a very wet track they finished within eight points of the junior Dukes. This proved to be insufficient when the junior Dukes scored 37 here last Thursday to make the aggregate score Sheffield 74,Halifax 79. Cubs Scorers at Halifax John Walmsley 14 Peter McNamara 8 Jamie Young 5 Rod Fidler 4+2 Rob Manchester 2+1 Mark Hepworth 1 Total 34 To get the aggregate score of 74-79,the first leg must have been Halifax 42 Sheffield 34 (Sheffield losing two race points somehow) And the second leg Sheffield 40 Halifax 37 (Sheffield lose another point)

Late in the 1985 season if I remember rightly. -
Away from the team for a moment, with the training track hopefully up and running again soon, does anyone know if there is a plan to bring back the Prowlers in the near future?

I'd keep Kyle and Dimi and also Arthur, there's a rider in there, personally I think he needs better equipment. Josh basically stood still at Owlerton this year maybe a year away from been the 'local star' might help him. Heat leaders.Steady would have to be the number 2 if he continues, you can still see flashes of the old Simon, but its abit like Sean Wilson in 2005 where Sean never quite got back to his pre broken neck form. Jason I'd keep, but i have no idea what went on at Ipswich, also he missed lots of fixtures due to injury so that may weigh against him. Riders the management might consider are our old friends Craig Cook and Brady Kurtz if we need a new number 1 and Jack Holder who flies around Owlerton. 3.00 rider would likely to be Jack Parkinson-Blackburn.

Crashes You Couldn’t Believe A Rider Walked Away From
Andrew replied to sparkafag's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I remember Tomasz Piscz going full pelt into the third turn at Owlerton and destroying the fence and his bike,Tomasz just got up and walked off back to the pits! Most spectacular one was back in 1991 Sheffield v Edinburgh late in the season. It was Peter and Louis Carr v Frede Schott and Johnny Jorgenson (not the Coventry JJ!)All four came out of the 1st and 2nd turn together but Jorgenson was squeezed up against the fence and somehow the bike 'rode up the fence' flinging Jorgenson in a majestic arc halfway down the backstraight, landing ankle and arse first on the track.Meanwhile his bike was now scything the fence down ripping out posts and tearing the wire mesh apart for about 30 yards.Peter Carr and Frede Schott were clear and unscathed but Louis Carr suffered a concussion as he flung his bike down to avoid the carnage.Johnny Jorgenson withdrew with ankle injuries and was shaken up and it took the best part of an hour to rebuild the fence. -
Sheffield V Somerset Pl 11/08/2016 7.30
Andrew replied to Blackadder's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
They'll be ok, if Jason continues his home form they'll be 50 yards behind him! Somerset can afford to lose and still finish first,Tigers really can't as they would be vulnerable to Ipswich or Workington catching them for the top six 48-42 hopefully. -

It was Anders Henriksson who Stoney chased with a spade at Owlerton (Tigers v Newport 1998) not a Plrc and nothing to do with Sean.

Jamie Young, circa 1984/85 had a pair of Shawn Moran's red and blue leathers at Sheffield.
