  1. Funny you should say that because i'm the same . Newport does come in for some critisism ( unfair in my book ) , but any time i've been there the speedway has been excellent . Ok Newport v Glasgow meetings are usually highly charged events and it's easy to get carried away with it all , but i've been to a couple of Welsh Opens as well and both have been terrific .
  2. I loved Coatbridge . Ok the stadium was probably the worst ever to hold speedway , but the track with the huge bankings was brilliant . As for away tracks - as has been said previously - the Somerset track stands out a mile .
  3. Joe Owen most definently . Also Robert Nagy , who career was ended by that Czechoslovakian nutjob .
  4. Hehe like the Poo boy will qualify anyway . Ex- Monarchs in the GP's whatever next .
  5. I would love to go back to having a series of test matches . Like they do in cricket , with the World rankings decided by how you fair in the test matches . There are too many weak nations in speedway to have a competative World cup .
  6. As regards Denmark . What ever happened to Leon Madsen ? He was supposed to sign for Glasgow a couple of years ago then changed his mind at the last minute. Thought , at the time , he was supposed to be a hot prospect . I know he broke his leg , but that was a while ago and i haven't heard much about him since .

    Coatbridge

What was that meeting Tiger ? I dug out an old Coatbridge v Paisley programme from the 18th of June 1976 , but on the fixture list it just has the 17/9 as an Open meeting .

    Paisley

Canny remember that long ago Kev , but i'll try and find out . It was a big track so i'm thinking about 72 or 73 seconds . Got a feeling it wasn't a Paisley rider that held it though as they weren't very good . I'll have a hunt and see if i've any old programmes in the attic .
  9. You missed out the word " soft " in the above sentence .
  10. The old one-off World final for sure . Ok with the GP series the years best rider wins the title , but the uncertainty of a one-off final makes it special . A tapes exclusion , an EF or a fall can spoil it for one of the favourites and give us a Jerzy Sczakiel or Egon Muller . Plus with all the qualifying - anybody has the chance to be World Champion - not just the select few .
  11. Pretty crap GP . Olsen mucks up another track - if you weren't in red or blue you might have well just stayed in the pits . Poor ride by Crump in the final - guess who i had money on
  12. Surely Nicholls should have done what Bjarne Pedersen done , i.e. enter the qualifying process to give him another option of being there next year . Or was that beneath him And where is it written that Britain automatically has two places anyway . It seems a mighty big asumption that Nicholls will get a wildcard cause Britain has to have two places .
  13. Where is Thommo anyway ? Nobody has been called a fool for ages .
  14. Is he not entitled to his opinion same as you . So everyone who disagrees with the Coventry mob are numpties and have to shut up . Aye that will be right - he done well tonight - credit where credit is due , but he is just below that top level and i dont think he will ever win a GP . Decent enough heat-leader in the EL , but not quite got enough to be a truly world class rider .
  15. And also congratulations to Steve Johnston for breaking the world record for the number of times to say the word "definently " . Good effort Johnno .
  16. I honestly canny stand that bloke . Going back to Saturday - does Kelvin Tatum have to shout OHHHHHHHHHHHH at every overtake .
  17. The phone call was priceless though " Did you see what Hans just did to me there " LMFAO .
  18. Hancock , Venegas Chris Kerr and another two blokes . They'll do well to finish fourth .
  19. POW was too packed for my liking TNT . I hate that trying to attract the barmaid's attention with a mass of people round about me ( no patience ) At 5 o clock i had moved to the Queen's Vaults - much more civilized .
  20. I went in the POW , but bloody hell it was busy . Met Pinny , SCB , Pinny's dad , Heather , Tanya , Garbin and my big drinking buddy from Newport Dai Lager Went up to the Gatekeeper ( think thats what it was called ) then finished in the Queen's Vaults with fellow Glaswegian Porgie 67 and me old mate from Newcastle Tsunami . Paced myself well throughout the day and was able to watch and remember the GP . Good also to see the Barmy Army from Mildenhall enjoying themselves in the stadium . A thoroughly enjoyable day .
