I said it was yet another slickfest of a GP . Then one of the mods put on their jackboots and removed it . Presumably because i posted it during the meeting , but as it was about heat 8 everyone would have been fast asleep or turned it over to see the lottery programme . Anyway congratulations to the evil dane on his gating prowess .

Yes of course . I'm confident Britain can finish no worse than runner-up tonight . -

I never thought i'd hear myself say this , but i actually agree with you . I fully expect us to be good enough to qualify behind the Swedes . The Poles and the Russians wont be much of a threat at Vojens as they would be on certain other tracks . -

At the moment it would be - William Lawson James Grieves Andrew Tully Derek Sneddon Ross Brady Sean Stoddart Granted they are all just PL riders at the moment , but i'm sure they would be competative in the earlier WC rounds against the likes of Italy , Slovenia , Austria , Team GB and the like . -

You're quite right . They are all English riders - therefore they should be called England . I remember the good old days when Scotland could compete in the World Pairs and World Team Cup , and if by chance any of our riders could be good enough to compete at that level again - i want them riding for Scotland , not GB . And if they were called England i wouldn't feel guilty about supporting the other 3 teams . -

Hearing that on the telly , the end of it sounded like the version from Queen's " A Night at the Opera " album . They should have got someone to sing it - like they do at big football matches . Hope you looked after out BTL btw -
Don't worry about him . if he had an Edinburgh coat on - he shouldn't have been allowed out on his own anyway .

Allen done as well as could have been expected on his home track . Richardson was awful . As for Woffinden and putting pressure on him . Australia and Russia have the attitude - if they're good enough , they're old enough . What do you suggest we do with Woffinden , hold him back till he's 25 . -
Congratulations Middlo Bashers

Exactly playing the old " you've never ridden a bike , therefore you cant comment " is as contemptable as it is pathetic . I've never ridden a speedway bike , but i've watched it for about 40 years and that was the worst British performance i've ever seen . I don't need to have sat on a bike to realise how badly we under-performed last night . And we better get the finger out sharpish before we are down with the minnows of world speedway . -

Maybe on reflection we can calm down a bit now . Last night was a shockingly bad performance on so many levels , but we are still in there . Middlo got slated on a regular basis on here , but at least with his leadership there was a bit of passion there . Last night there was just nothing - Lynch looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights and already international management looks too much for him . Last night's team was picked for one reason only - to attract a half-decent crowd to Brandon because of the high ticket prices . Allen's selection , though he wasn't the worst last night , told that story . Nicholls is still our best rider and by some distance , talk of dropping him is stupidity although he owes us a big performance on Thursday . Harris is limited , but is still a useful enough rider in World Cups . Richardson and Stead have failed to deliver too many times now and should be dropped now , while Allen would have been completely out of his depth anywhere else but Coventry . I'm glad Woffinden and Kennett are riding on Thursday as they are young and will fight for everything and this will be the first steps on a potential World class career for young Tai . I dont see us finishing ahead of Sweden on Thursday , but Poland and Russia are definently beatable at Vojens . Although 4th place in the final will probably be our finishing position , should we get there , but it is so important to get there . -
Congratulations Middlo Bashers

Maybe our lot should think about trying our Premier League as Nermark and Rymel were head and shoulders above the likes of Stead , Nicholls , Richardson and Allen . -
Aye you have to laugh . Just as well we used track experts or we might have finished last . The only change i'd make for Thursday is Lee Dicken for Simon Stead , who was a wee bit disappointing .

Never mind there is a 17 year old who'll restore a bit of pride on Thursday . Whether it will be enough to get us through or not is another matter . -

A nation of birds obviously -
When one of the Hungarian riders was excluded for a tapes offence , on Saturday , there was no replacement . So it would seem , in the event of an exclusion , 3 rider races it is .

I just feel , very strongly , that Tai Woffinden is the future of British speedway - much as Chris Holder is the future for the Australians . The Aussies weren't shy in blooding Holder early , so why the reluctance with Tai . Allen is a decent enough journeyman second string , and i suppose the more home riders on view will help the crowd level . But Woffinden is going to be World class and the experience gained now will stand him in good stead . -

Good that's another young talented rider to watch in action tonight , now all we need is for Tai Woffinden to replace Oliver Allen and we'll be sorted . -
Time For A Proper World Cup?
Paulco replied to longlivefrankie's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I vaguely remember a competition in the 70s that was a sort of World Cup between nations run as a series of Test Matches over 18 heats . Think GB were involved along with combined Australasia , Norway/Denmark , Sweden and Poland sides. As i said the memory is a bit vague , but i think this was only a one-season wonder .
