  1. Yeah i enjoyed my trips to Ipswich , your club and fans were a great asset to our league . All the best back in the top flight
  2. We already have volunteers doing that kind of stuff
  3. Is it co-incidence that this statement came out on the opening day of the promoter's conference ?
  4. Probably a bit of both . The owners have been pushing for Friday nights ever since they took over the club . But to be honest i dont see any significant increase in crowd levels compared to a Sunday afternoon . We have probably hit the ceiling of what size of crowd speedway in Glasgow can attract now , regardless of which day we have our meetings .
  5. I preferred the Sunday meetings , but the amount of speedway abroad , long track and grass track , makes attracting riders to Glasgow all the more difficult for a Sunday these days
  6. Mr " can i get a concession ? " . Could he afford to get the round in ?
  7. No that was Bill , he doesnt go anymore as he goes to a lot of rock gigs round about Glasgow and theyre mostly on a Friday and Saturday night . Aye him and i and Alan McFarlane have had a few boozy away trips , especially to Somerset .
  8. Your Workington bias is understandable , it"s not every season one feels the euphoria a treble brings . Just make it a four timer by coming to the tapes next March to defend your titles .
  9. Its a bit unfair to single out individuals when there are so many interesting and knowledgeable contributors to this section of the forum . Yes there are also a few numpties who's sole purpose is to wind folk up and also one or two of the nasty variety . But thankfully they are in the minority and the rest of us love the sport and i enjoy the quiet moments reading the various threads . I remember the days when i went to the speedway ; went home and didnt have anyone to talk to about it until the following week , so this forum has been a godsend in that respect . Long may it continue to flourish .
  10. Rider of the year - got to be Craig Cook , it's a pleasure watching him every home meeting . Impressive team - only one candidate here - Workington Team rider - Paul Starke , racked up the bonus points in the Glasgow engine room . One to watch - Josh Pickering . The confines of his home track isnt suited to his all action style . Watch his progress rocket if he moves away to somewhere like Scunthorpe Bulldog award - again Craig Cook Meeting of the season - Scunthorpe v Glasgow the day after Cardiff Surprise of the season - Berwick's dads army looked basement dwellers , They were anything but that . Underperformers - Ipswich's season was blighted by injury which was the main reason they finished mid table Unluckiest rider - youmg Dan Bewley . Hope this bad injury doesnt halt his progress Newcomer - the young laddie at Ipswich - Drew Kemp - what a prospect he is
  11. Since the days of Lou Sansom and Mal Mackay the Comets faithful have been waiting on a seven man team success . Now they're like buses . Well done to the 2018 Comets , a wonderful and well deserved achievement.
  12. Hope that decision , though credit it to him for making it , doesnt come back to bite him on the arse visa wise .
  13. But who do you keep ? Cook yes , but then bang goes your well balanced team . Harris - no , Vissing probably not , Sarjeant - no , Starke - maybe , Thomas - worth preserving with , Kerr - yes if he has fully recovered . Greaves - probably not .
  14. THJ , your ideas have a lot of merit , but for something like that to work , the governing body ( especially the second half of your season ) has to take charge and take away the organising of fixtures from the clubs . They have to implement the fixture list to suit the competion not the clubs themselves . If riders are missing for whatever reason , too bad deal with it .
  15. Before we start looking ahead to 2019 as we dont know the league structure or points limit we will be involved with , it's time to look back on what was a generally frustrating 2018 . Rightly or wrongly installed as title favourites , things didnt quite go to plan as well as we hoped . The championship shield section looked to be at our mercy after victory at Armadale , but the home thumping by Workington cost us qualification and served notice that we werent as good as we were beginning to think we were . We then contrived to throw away a KO Cup tie against Edinburgh which we were in complete control of , while the league campaign had it's ups and downs . Strong enough at home , but generally disappointing away from Ashfield . We did make it into the play offs only to come up just short against our Cumbrian nemesis . As for the riders - Craig Cook - easily the best rider in the league and a joy to watch . Would even say he's better round Ashfield than Shane Parker in his pomp . Chris Harris - much excitement at his signing last winter , but overall he has been a big disappointment . Claus Vissing - started the season well , but his form definitely dipped as the season progressed . Paul Starke - again started the season well before he got injured in the home meeting against Sheffield at the beginning of May , Took a long time to get over that and his scoring suffered , but he did return to sonething like his old self towards the end of the campaign . James Sarjeant - we hoped he would turn out to be the free scoring reserve every title challenger needs , but that never looked like happening . Jack Thomas - all riders stepping up from the NL can struggle , but there is definite potential there . Nathan Greaves - got injured too soon after signing to be judged fairly . Ritchie Worrall - been fantastic for us since arriving from Somerset , but this season he just didnt look the same rider . Lewis Kerr - the shining light of early season meetings , unfortunate his season was cruelly brought to an early end . A season of just coming up short when it mattered , we shall see what 2019 brings .
  16. I've asked that question too , but it seems not . Had to be a rider from a non qualifying team , even if one of the top 4 is out . That only applies to your title play off final though
  17. Losing to a decent Workington side in the play offs ( remember them ) is no disgrace . Your lot couldnt even defend a 29 point lead there .
  18. Well done Workington , always painful to come up just short , but it's all there for the Comets now - good luck to them
  19. That numptie supports Berwick and has a major chip on his shoulder about Glasgow , best leave him to his colouring in books
  20. Track staff deserve immense credit for getting the track as good as they did , given the rain we suffered on Friday and Saturday . Was an entertaining enough meeting , but will 13 points be enough ? I'm not so sure , but we live in hope
  21. Yes well how many " most important ' promoters conferences are we up to now ? Mr Chapman and his total tranparency and simplifying the rule book . I fear next season will just be more of the same , only with less teams to indulge in a bit of self interest .
  22. There you go , canny beat a good old contingency plan . Good to see two clubs getting together and co-operating .
