Do We Still Need The Play-offs
colin wood replied to Star Lady's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
The play offs are OK if you are in them, but if not your season is probably over in September and no meetings in October.Feel sorry for Rye House they had to cram lots of home meetings in and just missed out on a play off place . -
Get well soon Jakob

Got to be honest but the racing in both play off semis was awful.Watched the Swedish play off on the new free view channel last night and it was miles better.Other than BV the tracks over there seem to produce better racing IMO. -

I do think crowds can drop off for teams that have already qualified for the play offs. What is annoying is the fact that for the final the crowd is much bigger than for a normal league match. Why don't these glory hunters support every match?Probably because of the number of riders missing every week and double up issues. To get crowds up for league matches we have got to sort out domestic league racing.A decent crowd for the play offs is papering over the cracks. -
Swindon - Belle Vue Koc 1st Leg 14.9.17

Mark Lemon missed it,the referee missed it and so did Roscoe. If Roscoe knew he was surely cheating. If he didn't that's two managers and a referee who don't know the rules. -

What's Champions League got to do with it ? We all know that's a knock out style competition after the group stages.I was talking about play offs to decide champions after all league matches -

Champions league football always used to be a knock out competition.Tell me a country that uses play offs to decide league champions. -

It does make you think. If they can turn up for a play off final where are they for league matches! -

My point was that football will never use play offs to decide champions.Whoever wins the league is rightly called the champions.Promotion and relegation play offs are a different thing entirely. -

Some very good posts on here regarding play offs.I am sure crowds drop off once you have qualified.Does a big crowd for the final make up the numbers I'm not sure.Really like Paulco's ice hockey idea. -

Never liked the play offs the champions should be who wins the league. Don't follow rugby league but if the play off winners haven't won the league then I fail to see how they can be called champions.Imagine if Chelsea had to go into a four match cup at the end of the season after winning the league and not ending up as champions!A serious sport like football would never come up with a daft idea like this and the fans wouldn't want it either.Ditch the stupid joker thing as well! Bjerre,Tungate and Cooke were fantastic tonight if we had Max back we are the team to avoid in the play offs. -

Harris is a big loss for Rye,and with a play off place possibly riding on this match it shows up what a joke this doubling up really is.Aces already in play offs so not as much at stake for us but we need a win and a chance for K Bjerre to shut his critics up. -
Wolves. V. Belle Vue. 28/8/17. 6pm

As with the Poole match earlier tonight is a good match for Aces to do a bit of engine testing and average reduction for next season. -

Without Fricke and Tungate this was a good point for the Aces and Cook showing why he is British no1. -
Poole Vs Rye House Thurs 10/8/17
colin wood replied to LisaColette's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Shocking Poole performance.I think Ford and Middleditch have lost the dressing room.Riders getting sacked after coming back from injury,KK obviously wanting away,Holder now saving his best for Poland, the problems are mounting up.Worrying times.Do Poole fans think its time for changes at the top? -
Crump is a legend in the sport.Ten years in the top three in the world in consecutive seasons is remarkable.

Is This Swindon Team The Best Of Recent Times?
colin wood replied to DC2's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
You could finish top of the league and 10 points ahead of Wolves but lose to them in the play offs.Who would you say was the best team?
