I'm amazed that there are new promoters willing to take over loss making tracks. They must have very deep pockets or creative accountants, or maybe they are just crackers!
The stadium reminds me of a typical new build lower league football ground, the track however is one of the best this country has produced in modern times. Unfortunately great racing does not guarantee decent crowds. A project of this magnitude has probably come 20 years too late.
The sad thing is, lakeside's present location has become unsustainable as a professional speedway venue. Poor facilities added to the horrendous traffic delays have taken it's toll on the crowd levels. Weekend racing is the ideal solution, but stock car fixtures understandably will take priority.
How will any new promoters be able to manage the massive mortgage repayments. Breaking even is hard enough for the vast majority of tracks, without having that millstone around their necks.
If rye house do inherit some of the lakeside team from last season, it would make it a lot harder to re invent the sport at arena. I could definitely see the likes of kennett and Bridger lining up for the new look rockets.
If the landlords agree to weekend speedway at arena, it will be a big task to set the place up for just a few hundred fans. I fear it will be a hard slog to attract the supporters in sufficient numbers, especially now that rye house have moved up.
How is that going to work shads. Saturdays seem out of the question for top flight racing, and crowds have never been good for weekday meetings at rye. I just hope it doesn't all end in tears with the track going bust.
