  1. No criticism or bitchiness intended 'mrmiddlesbrough'. Naj and myself discussed this on Friday and we both agreed that what young Brits require is much much more track time. A few laps at the end of a meeting on a track which has seen its best is nowhere near good enough. They require a remote track in the middle of nowhere where they can get in as many laps as they physically can stand without disturbance. The best I could suggest was doing Grasstrack week in, week out. I also think the NL is still the right place to bring on talent. Perhaps if it was reserved for new riders as opposed to veterans, that might help. What about having more heats in a NL meeting? Making team places for young Brits is not the solution. They need to be given the opportunity to practice and earn them. I really hope the academy announced today is a success and is just the start of something much bigger.
  2. No trouble from you this year please 'Shadders'.
  3. What, just like a few years ago when there were too few riders to go around and they were totally out their depth and had their confidences shattered. Isn't the NL supposed to be for rider and track development?
  4. Should that not be the English Channel?
  5. Think you night be naking a nistake with Mick's mame.
  6. No problem with the dog. Think he got fed up being stepped on and has called it a day.
  7. Will you be bringing your choir too?Nice to hear from you DB. You can have my autograph if you've been a good boy!
  8. Yes, and how many years have we seen this. If things don't go his way, as they haven't so far this season in either league, this what you can expect from him. Looks like another fine for him! That man has eyes in the back of his head! He stops runs to protect his team mate and cut the opposition charge off at source, makes up for poor starts by using lines others have yet to find, makes powerful but fair charges up the inside to power past and is just mighty quick. No wonder all fans look forward to seeing him race. Thankfully it is for us. But I thought Ipswich had too! An all out #1, good heat leader backup, 2nd strings with potential and super reserves? Not bad for a track in a field. Glad you enjoyed your visit. We feel very priviledged to follow such a motivated promotion. Nothing stands still at Somerset. Air fence next! It is not too warm everywhere at the moment. Very chilly with an easterly wind. Glorious in the summer in the Westcountry though. Come back the Jetstream -- all is forgiven. Newcastle? I have to say it was encouraging to see Josh and Stefan going so well. I am led to believe that Josh has been doing second halves to get some laps in. Very professional. Well it certainly paid off. Very unlucky in his first ride. It looked like Kyle was having bike troubles as Doyley came out for a test spin on his bike after the meeting. As has been said already a very entertaining meeting with lots of passing by the Rebels.
  9. Ah ha; finally sussed it. They started on the cycling facility? Well that seems to explain the criticism of the glorified cycle speedway track. All makes sense now! Oops, I'll just crawl away to my 'track in a field' to drink my Zider.
  10. WHAT, in 2014? Ever the optimist 'nagy1'!
  11. Ah, but what about the 'bus from Ashfield'? What a splendid gesture. Would be a great sponsorship opportunity for a company to do this regularly for any team. Many years ago I believe somebody sponsored 6 coaches to the CLRC to (and from) Hoddeston for Rebels supporters. Persuaded Willowwoman to go on our wedding anniversary. I sure know how to treat a lady!
  12. Good luck to Claus, an enthusiatic, professional, mature and committed rider!
  13. WHAT! Have those dambed Ruskies nuked it?
  14. As did Jason Doyle. But you have to ask the question, do these boys get their applications in in enough time? By "enough", I mean the maximum time plus a bit of slack. Or is it more complicated than this?
  15. A good show by Josh on Saturday. Roughly finished where we would have expected him to, so a promising start.
  16. No wonder they are trying to take of the world then. Walkers have come a long way since I worked in Leicester in 1982. Then they used to do some wicked strong salt and vinegar crisps which would now be banned by H&S which used to take off the lining of your mouth. Pepsi would do just fine as sponsors!
  17. WHAT! You are joking. A nationally recognised company taking over the world of snacks?
  18. Will never forget a heat with Zorro where they exchanged places for fun at the OTA. Probably the best heat of racing I have ever seen. Full throttle, total commitment, highly entertaining with each rider respecting each other. Happy retirement Havvy.
  19. It is amazing what our #1 will do to try an encourage new fans to the Oak Tree Arena! A working colleague of mine took his family off to Oz over Christmas for a month and booked them on a twilight walk over the Sidney Harbour Bridge. He got chatting to a couple who were teathered next to them and found out that the guy was a Speedway Rider. Him knowing about the Rebels (as I do my own bit of promoting at work myself) he asked "Have you heard of the Somerset Rebels" of which the reply was "Yes. I have signed for them again this year". As you can see, that rider was none other than our Jason Doyle. Now what are the chances of JD doing exactly the same walk over the bridge at the same time and adjacent to someone from Somerset who knows of the existance of the Rebels and who gets chatting about them? Pretty damn slim I would say. But here is the evidence:
  20. Thank you muchly Steve Bishop for many years of loyal service to the Rebels.
