Andrew Silver made a brief return in 2009 after a 12 year absence. May not have been a great success, but was hugely entertaining. Scored a maximum in one of his last meetings and held a mid 5 point average when injury cut short his season. He was in the Rockets side at Berwick when Lawson was riding for the Bandits

Comparing footballers to speedway riders is like comparing fillet steak to economy burgers. Footballers are contracted for a period of time, often up to 4 or five years. They are paid the agreed amount however poorly they perform. Speedway riders are paid per point. I can only think of three riders in recent years who have deliberately underperformed for a whole season, unfortunately two of them were at my team.

What's your definition of "proper banter?" They're sportsman, so they're fair game. Why should they be any different from footballers, cricketers, tennis players etc?
