  1. Meeting off - waterlogged track. No re-staging date yet.
  2. It was in 1971 Hackney won the KO Cup beating Cradley Heath over two legs in the final. All qualifiers up to the final were, in those days, over just one leg so it was the luck of the draw as to whether a team were at home or away. In the semi-final Hackney drew King's Lynn away and secured an unlikely draw which resulted in a replay at Waterden Road. This went right down to the wire. In the final heat, Hackney needed a heat advantage to progress thus winning 39-38. For the entire race Terry Betts led Bengt Jansson until Banger pulled out one of his finest cutbacks coming out of the final bend to to win by no more than the width of a tyre. Hackney reached the final the following year but were up against the majestic Ivan Mauger fuelled Belle Vue. To their credit, the Hawks won the home leg 40-37 with Banger scoring a 12 point maximum. As I recall, this was Belle Vue's only third defeat the entire 1972 season. Hackney lost 45-33 at Hyde Road.
  3. He has a full time job, well paid I gather, which would preclude his participation in the PL. On an different matter entirely, Ipswich did Rye House a favour tonight.
  4. It won't happen as Rob has no interest in riding in the PL. He said so during his interview with Craig Saul last night.
  5. Depends how Len wants to play it. Justin Sedgmen was expecting to return to Lakeside in 2013 but, owing to the change to the DU rule, was left out but has issued a 'come and get me' plea. Could be a steal on 4.99 as a direct temporary replacement for Jason. He achieved almost that in the EL last year.
  6. Strange to see that this is the only fixture of the day.
  7. Simon Lambert rode as a guest reserve for Workington yesterday. He scored 7+1 from four rides.
  8. They've made a start by running Ipswich close this afternoon at Foxhall Heath: http://speedwayupdat...ay&thread=12003
  9. Well, he is a young man. I am sure he has the stamina to DU
  10. In the meantime, Newcastle fans, as we are at Lakeside, must be very encouraged by the performance of Richie on Saturday. To win two heats ahead of Chris Harris then Hans Andersen - fantastic!
  11. Then we shall all have to stand at that moment, Bryn. Only two weeks and a bit to go now.
  12. Very disappointing response from other promotions. They all moan about dwindling attendance etc. but appear to reluctant to do anything about it and I find it particularly unbelievable there not to have been any input from Rye House.
  13. I don't know but you could be right. I believe the problem is the inconvenient time the GPs take place. To begin with, many have other things to do on Saturdays, those who support their own clubs for a start. Then there are other Saturday commitments/choices which clash whilst Monday evenings present fewer problems particularly as EL racing takes place after the normal weekly evening meal etc. I am able to watch almost all EL matches live but rarely any GPs which are recorded to view later, even the next day at times. In fact, even when in on a Saturday, I watch a delayed recording.
  14. It has been made official: http://www.speedwaygb.co/news.php?extend.18877
  15. I don't believe this team will be anywhere as poor as some have made it out to be. The retained riders from the 2012 season did not compete as a unit prior to the home match against Edinburgh. Beforehand, riders were missing through injury or not signed by then. Therefore, you need to see how they and the team performed from that match and beyond. There were six fixtures in all, three at home and three away. These resulted in maximum points achieved at home and three away, a draw at Sheffield, and a one point loss at Ipswich. RR was used for the injured Luke Bowen then a selection of guests #1 who scored no more than I would expect of Olly Allen. Then I worked out the averages for this period:- Jason Bunyan 7.45 Anders Mellgren 6.79 Jason Garrity 6.13 Simon Lambert 6.00 Kasper Lykke 5.08 If you add Nelson's average of 5.33 brought forward from 2011 and Olly's 9.62 for 2013 then, potentially, the starting line-up equates to 46.40. All theoretical but you never know.
  16. I've no idea but the most expensive is a little stadium just down the road from Hoddesdon. £16 and £14 for concessions as of 2012 but, worse still, these entry prices had been carried forward from 2011 and, at that time, higher than some EL clubs. What will happen in 2013 is anyone's guess. Incidentally, there is no season ticket option and never has been.
  17. Good Call. And you could rename the road leading up to the stadium to Lois Lane.
  18. You could call them 'Kent Supermen' after Clark.
  19. I'm sure he will have one eye on a team place next year.
  20. They could be riding in a GP somewhere I suppose. Rider's averages are based upon what they score in each ride multiplied by four. Therefore you have to largely discount points scored in heat 15 thus deducting six points from the meeting total, arriving at 84, 42 points to each side.
  21. I daresay some might say it is well under the limit again but this is an exciting looking side. Olly is a good gater, and very quick once in the lead so an ideal no. 1. Also, he fits the experienced and 'family' values Len is seeking. Add to that riders who are at the start of their careers and, have proved themselves, already, to be match winners. For example, Kasper was the star of the show when Rye were at Ipswich last October. Jason G, is sensational on his day and, one year on, has the ability to be one of the PL stars in 2013. If you now add Anders to the equation plus the stability of Jason B this is an impressive side and, we have evidence that Simon has the ability to conquer the larger circuits such as Sheffield. Finally, if Nelson fails to appear, Len still has over 7.5 points in his shopping basket.
  22. I am something of a novice regarding Swedish Speedway. I understand the basics such as the league schedule and play-offs but what happens on Tuesdays when a particular club is riding away. Is there no home action or are all EL clubs required to field a junior squad who race on 'off nights?'
