Can't agree with you... Scunthorpe invariably used a minimum of experienced riders. Wayne Carter was always captain - until he had to retire - due to a Speedway injury. The season where the CL Scorpions won everything was the season when the team contained 16 year olds Josh and Tai and an even younger Joe Haines with - I think - Byron Bekker, Benji Compton, Scott Richardson and Ritchie... hardly experienced riders - just young and with potential. The loss of Scunthorpe will be the loss of British riders in the PL and EL. A sad day for British Speedway if Rob Godfrey does stop having a team in the NL...

Sheffield V Belle Vue Colts 6thoct

If Parnaby used those words then the Speedway Star should quote him. Why should the Speedway Star censor him? It's all a bit of showmanship rivalry... Malcolm and some of the riders are ex-Scunthorpe so it adds a bit of 'spice' to the meeting. Nothing wrong with that - and if it brings a few extra through the gate 'job done'. -

Mmmmmmmmm Interesting... I'm sure the son I gave birth to will have a great laugh at your post when he finishes work... Tell me - what have you done for Speedway? Have you ridden a Speedway bike? Been a promoter or manager? Worked as part of a team as trackstaff or adminstration? -
Scunthorpe/sheffield V Belle Vue 11th Oct

It's rare for Scunthorpe to cancel a meeting so it shows how badly the rain has affected the track. A decision not taken lightly... -

OK - You and birdseye (possibly the same person) do not like Mr Vasey... we get the message. Get your facts before using the keyboard... all you are typing is your own 'thoughts' - not facts. I won't even bother to supply the facts because I would be wasting my time... Malcolm Vasey is well-respected in the NL and has done more for Speedway than you will ever do... -
Scunthorpe, as you say, prove that development is possible to develop talent and be successful. As well as last seasons success you can look at other NL teams and see that some of Scunthorpes talents were quickly signed by other teams, Buxton - a standalone club - also have been successful in bringing on talent and being successful. Perhaps stricter rules on who can ride in the NL might be helpful. Several riders have found their level in this league - or have been blocked from progressing by the heavy reliance on foreign riders in the PL. One experienced over 25 is good for any team but - for the good of British speedway - are too many experienced (but non-progessing) riders in one team good for British speedway or the NL? Perhaps at least one of the reserve berths ought to be for new British riders only in each team. That should not affect standalone clubs too much... Just ideas... nothing more...
-
Don't forget Scunthorpe... also 5 Brits and, until this season producing young Brits without Sheffield. They have had 3 riders move up to the EL and have supplied several riders doubling up in the PL this season, as well as those already in the PL who started with them... all this since 2005
-
I can't remember the rules for missing riders in the NL - but rather than not caring less about the NL they - Scunthorpe and Sheffield are showing how much they care about bringing young British riders up through the ranks...
-
Stefan Nielsen is also in his first season - just like Greenwood. The Worralls are in their second season and Irving, Birks and Wrathall in their third season. Bekker, Mason, McKinna and Richardson have - how may years - of Speedway riding between them??? Which team is developing youngsters - and which team builds a side to try and win silverware? Last year Rob Godfrey was criticized for his youth development (by some people). This year he's being criticized (by some people) for using youngsters who are improving...
-
All but one of the current Scunfield Prowling Saints have honed their Speedway skills at EWR - and three of the BV Colts... Rob Godfrey shows his system works and should be proud. All the time and effort that he and Richard Hollingsworth (and others) put into Speedway training is paying off... yet again.

Mildenhall V Stoke - Ko Cup Final 1st Leg

But this meeting isn't Stoke v Scunthorpe/Sheffield who are the top two teams in the NL at this moment in time -
Stefan Nielson - despite his name - is a British Speedway rider, born in England, with a british mother. Jorgenson(sp?) is in the PL team...
-
I like both methods... I look at barrow boy's method for a quick look at how things are going... and if I want more depth I look at manchesterpaul's summary.
-
Because riders have done so well this season people tend to foorget that just over a year ago they were complaining that Rob Godfrey was doing things wrong by putting out such a seemingly weak looking team...
-
It would have been Monday if he was riding (I reckon) - but they need a replacement so it'll come in for Sunday ...
-
I think the difference is that Lakeside/Hackney/Ryehouse is not an ownership by teams in the same league... Sheffield and Scunthorpe are a local derby in the PL and to go to Sheffield and support the Scunfield Saints would fell crazier than attending a Hackney meeting with an ownership combination of a PL and an EL team...

Wasn't the track an 8pm start due to greyhound racing in the afternoon? Not much time between 6.30 and 8pm to sort the track out. I still think that riders should be taught to ride any track as part of their track craft. I'm sure that's what the young Aussies do...
-
For example - Craig Cook is a rider who learnt his track craft at Buxton, not an easy track. It's no good giving NL riders 'easy' tracks to ride. No wonder they struggle when they try and progress to the PL. I should imagine that the young Aussies learn their trade on far mor difficult tracks/ground than our youngsters. That's probably why they adapt much easier to any track they ride. Aussie youngsters, with fewer opportunities to ride in meetings, probably also practice the basics such as starts. No wonder they come over and find NL tracks - some specially prepared for NL racing - much easier to ride and do not have as many problems adapting to trickier tracks when they move up to the PL.

Which is why some tracks have stopped it

And the Mallets are known to go out of control - that's why the younger Mallet was banned from promoting for quite a long time... The BSPA appear not to have taken this any further - which makes me think that Richard's actions were not as bad as people make out. If Richard was out of control he would have been the one provoking a fight. As it is I read that the Mallets were attempting to provoke Richard. He made light of it and laughed and joked instead. Richard Hollingsworth is worth ten Mallets. He cares about Speedway - not just his own team, but all levels of Speedway. If there were more people like him willing to put the hours into Speedway at all levels then British Speedway would not be in the poor state it is in.
-
Newport's track was 'minging' Wasn't it the younger Mallet that got banned by the BSPA a couple of seasons ago Richard Hollingsworth does rather more than most people for British speedway...

I think the problem comes from there being a special section for sports and professional status - and he's not old enough - by British standards/laws - to ride professionally in this country.
