British Final 2024
IainB replied to Hackett's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
It's more of an invitational then? Seems strange to have a qualifier for the U21 but not the senior championship -

What is the qualification criteria for the British Final at the moment? -

I've seen video of the crash and if there had been an air fence, which were prevalent at that time, Ricky Ashworth would not have sustained the injuries he did. There's also video footage of the Zaine Kennedy crash, again caused by there being no energy absorption or dissipation by Scunthorpe's so called "safety" fence. -

Yes, it is my opinion... I doubt that any energy absorption tests have been carried out at any of the tracks with their different combination of fence construction. It would be interesting to see those results if tests have been carried out. It's common sense that an airbag in front of a springy wire mesh fence is going to be a hell of a lot better than a foam bag in front of a metal fence in front of a solid wall of soil or concrete. -

Off the top of my head, Joe Alcock, Zaine Kennedy and Ricky Ashworth -

It's a play on words... I'm calling you a tosspot, but if you hadn't have started off with an abusive post maybe we could have had a civilised debate. I'm not disputing anything that happened after the incident, it was what it was... it just keeps happening at Scunthorpe though because your "safety" fence isn't up to muster -

See above; energy absorption and dissipation, if Schlein had hit any other fence in the land, maybe with the exception of King's Lynn he'd have walked away -

What sits behind Berwick's fence? What sits behind Scunthorpe's fence? It's all about energy Absorption and dissipation -

There seems to be a bit of a gap (if that's the right word) between the riders that have left the U21 ranks and the "old timers" that compete in the British Final... maybe it's time to re-introduce the qualifiers or an U24 championship? -

Thanks for your, for a change and for the most part, thought out reply Tosh(pot)1218. I actually quite enjoy my trips to Scunny, on the rare occasion that things run smoothly. It can't be coincidence that these things keep happening time and time again at Scunthorpe. You've got a great race track, the most dangerous fence in the leagues, one of the worst penny pinching promoters and some of the daftest fans -

Wasn't it during the U21 meeting that Schlein mentioned he'd been signed by somebody? Meaning the deal had already been done. Still, with his Leicester connections you'd have thought he'd have been aware of things happening. -

Your club, along with Plymouth, brings the whole sport down, if negative things didn't keep happening at Scunthorpe I wouldn't have to post about them... but if you get your jollies watching riders careers end, you fill your boots. I find it all rather sickening! -

Probably Hume or Starke, should go to one of the kids though imo Jason Edwards? Connor Bailey? Jason Garrity , local lad? -

Yes, it's metal armco in front of a solid soil(?) bank. I assume there's a valid reason why it's not air fence on all bends? -

I've spent more dead time "watching" speedway at or from Scunthorpe than any other track in the land. You shouldn't be coming away with broken bones and concussion from foam fences -

If they had a proper "safety" fence they might be able to get away with only having 1 ambulance more often -

What's happened to Lawson? -
He was clearly on the phone just prior to the parade
-
He's injured? What does he expect Lynn to do? Run with 6 riders? Or maybe he should have got down to the track to help his team mates out, he would have found out in person then!

Flint should be the leading light in the rising star position and to be fair if there was no RS system he'd probably still be worth a team spot on potential alone. I've made my feelings known on the RS system elsewhere but it'd be interesting to know what the overall combined average is of the RS season on season... one for the anoraks. You'd hope it'd be about the same or marginally increase year on year, I do feel many of them are well out of their depth this season though.

Not only that but a 2 times Euro under 19 champion and World under 21 runner-up, probably the hottest prospect in world Speedway -
You reached the cup semi finals! I'd count that as a good season
