  1. And don't forget they dropped Zack Cook when they wanted to bring Lindgren in! In what world do you ever do that? The history shows that clubs don't really close for 3 or 4 years, especially in city venues, it's more like 20 to 25 years before they make a comeback, if at all, due to the scarcity of land available at the right price in the right area.
  2. I'm surprised they lasted the season tbh. They clearly shouldn't have paid to keep a rider in the team for the whole year who was contributing very little and it was inexplicable that he kept appearing every week. It's difficult to feel any sympathy for the directors.
  3. It is a lot more expensive to attend Speedway these days, so a lot of people really have to think whether it's worth it or not
  4. I know it's not North American but the sport that I think has the most similarities to Speedway, although not immediately obvious, Cricket has resisted the need for pay offs. Their league competition the County Championship is decided in the good old fashioned way, they don't get bogged down with re-staging weather effected matches either... but, who cares, other than those playing, who wins? The rest of the season is made up of more high profile, media friendly competitions, The Hundred, Blast, Internationals etc. The County Championship is almost used as a feeder system and is still there for the Cricket die hard to attend. It's going to need somebody to stump up the money (a TV broadcaster) to radically change the operating model of British Speedway, to have a month long festival of franchise Speedway attracting all of the worlds top stars. This particular horse has probably now bolted though when Sky dropped the Sport, instead of innovating the sport while all other sports were doing the same thing, Speedway just plodded along with the same old league system becoming less and less fit for purpose as each season went on.
  5. The sun has made an appearance! 🌤 For about 30 seconds
  6. Here comes the sun 🌞(not) At this rate it could be November Rain 🌧
  7. I think it more likely that there should be a ballot due to the demand and limited capacity of the NSS.
  8. I was near the stadium on Saturday and water was just coming up out of the main drain network!
  9. Track drainage will only take so much, if all the drains are full it's just going to back up. We had floods last Thursday, it continued to rain on Friday, it has been consistently raining for the last 36 hours and it's due to continue overnight until tomorrow morning and be dull for the rest of the day... I fear the damage may already be done for Thursday.
  10. Wasn't the first leg of "The Bomber Final" rain effected? https://speedwayupdates.proboards.com/thread/7267/bees-poole-play-final-september
  11. Preparing for next season... it's funny that you have a Manager that won't travel north of Ringwood unless it's for a golfing holiday and a Captain that disappears to Poland when you reach a final 🏌️‍♂️⛳✈️🦘😂
  12. As a Leicester fan we're a bit of a Johnny come lately to the pay off scene. The 2 seasons we have been involved have been a bit of a farce with our previous final appearances happening on a Tuesday night in Glasgow and at King's Lynn in Novemeber! In another life I was a Cov fan and we had some great pay off nights and the only dodgy one I can remember was a weather effected pudding of a track against Poole at Brandon. As a neutral with no skin in the game, not really caring when they take place, I think they're pretty good as it doesn't really matter to me when I sit on my sofa and watch it. But as a follower of a team involved it can make it a bit of a lottery. Track conditions, 2nd leg "advantage", rider availability and the number of races (heat 10 call off) all come into play with the possible pressure from TV companies to ensure meetings take place when perhaps they shouldn't. This year has been the biggest farce yet, with the rigging of the Semi's, the weather and it possibly ain't over yet as it's currently pishing it down outside in Leicester as I write this on Tuesday morning with no let up in sight today! Shortening or lengthening the season is not an answer, you could have held the pay offs in July with the same result. Is the "pay off" of 2 (fixed) semis and a final really worth the devaluing of every league meeting that takes place throughout the whole season? For me, probably not anymore.
  13. Why has he got no licence? Have I missed something?
  14. Maybe that same medical person said go to the GP on Saturday instead of helping the team mates of the team you are Captain of in their first final of the season?
