Although i have and always been a Cheetahs fan, I can always rememeber Arthur Forest from Coventry. I think he only rode for the first season I started watching (19590 but he was good and was always immaculate in appearance.

Old Saint,
If I remember correctly, when I was a lad in about 1958/59 I read somewhere that Barry Briggs used to train with Millwall Football Club and supersticiously wore a Football boot on his right foot when riding.
Any thoughts on this one?

Igori,
I remember vividly the crash at Wembley and I am glad that he is well and still alive.
The Russian team that parded at Wembley looked magnificent that day!
It was a very historic occasion for speedway in the UK.
It would be wonderful to see the sport and a Russian team at the new Wembley stadium.
Best wishes

Thats right norbold early 60s eight riders, 7 & 8 being reserve and if I remember correctly they only had two rides each + any substitute rides.
Wish it was that way now actually!
Does anyone remember what happened to Nich Nicholls. Oxford signed him from Coventry in about 1960 and he rode for 1 maybe 2 seasons and then dissappeared.
Surprisingly he does not appear on the lsit of all time Coventry riders.
After discussing the Eadon brothers another name comes to mind from second halves at Oxford in the late 50s and early 60s - Eric Hockaday. Eric never got into the Oxford team even as reserve but I believe rode at various other non-league tracks about that time. Does anyone know what happened to him?
Norbold, I beg to dare to differ with you, but in the 50's & 60's many of the riders were part time riders as they had a a day job or had there own business etc.
Best wishes
Brian
John was part of the Championship winning side in the 60s. I remember him starting at Cowley and always came with his Dad/Parents and I am sure they arrived in a Jag with 2 (Yes 2)Gleaming bikes on the trailer.
John was good from the front and a very popular guy, but seemed to dissappear quickly after moving to Newport.
I do remember John and as you say not one to set the world alight but a very steady rider for Norwich.
A name that completely slipped the mind when thinking about Norwich.
