  1. Hi - had it confirmed from Smoke & Rubber that they will not be selling a DVD for last season's GPs and SWC - does anyone know anywhere else that are producing anything? Poland maybe? I assume it's linked to being able to watch on Discovery+, but there must be others who are like me and would want to continue their own collection
  2. Seemed like a healthy crowd to me - I hope Glasgow Speedway made some money as their facilities and organisation were excellent. Why do members of this forum feel such a need to talk the sport down? The track, the fence, the delays, the coverage, the crowd, the time of the races, the format, the winner of the meeting for god's sake - all been panned in the preceding 40 pages, much by the keyboard experts who sat and watched a stream. How about taking the positives and advocating this great sport. I count myself lucky to have seen that meeting on my first visit to Glasgow and also thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Edinburgh the previous night. Both clubs seem well run with good tracks and consequently well supported - isn't that what we all want? Sometimes it seems that the forum members hate the sport and look forward to it's total demise just to say 'I knew that would happen' - c'mon try loving the sport as it is!
  3. If this was the worst meeting at Glasgow you must see some fantastic meetings! Some of the best speedway I have seen for years Loved my first visit to Ashfield- the racing was exciting and at times unpredictable. As someone said there wasn’t much complaining at the track as people were respectfully waiting for the injured riders to be cared for. Some riders obviously found the track difficult but that is surely down to their own way of riding and certainly the Poles struggled with the shape - that doesn’t make the track poor, it just means there is more to speedway than open the throttle and go.
  4. This was just too much today - had to leave after heat 12 to get a tyre changed for my journey home, usually would be really bugged at missing the meaningful races, but this was just awful and I was bored stiff, so actually pleased to leave early. Grading after every two heats? Surely if it needed that much work, the track was not fit for purpose? Re-run after re-run, that is just not entertainment I'm afraid. Feel sorry for the lads who tried to have a go - at least they should have a decent race track in Torun!
  5. I got that message too - when I clicked the link to say yes, there was no acknowledgement. Did you have the same?
  6. Not seen any merchandise for the GPs this season - just the sponsors bits and some T-shirts thrown out to the crowd by the 'Monster Girls' during one of the grading breaks
  7. Does anyone know if the Souvenir/Programme fair is happening at the Cardiff SGP this year?
  8. The last showing on Eurosport - British Speedway's shop window - had an interview at the end of the meeting with Ipswich captain Danny King - then, in the championship round-up, had an interview with Poole captain Danny King! Explain that to a casual sport fan, whilst retaining some credibility? It's been necessary due to lack of riders but the extent of the doubling up has to end
  9. Just as an aside to the merchandise discussion - I've been to the last two SGPs and with all the promise of a new era and dynamic presentation, I've been really surprised at the lack of merchandise. Only 'licensed' products appear to T-Shirts thrown out to a lucky few by the Monster girls and the programmes. In Teterow the programme seemed to only be available very discreetly at the ticket booth, which meant I had to go back outside to get one and it was incorrectly printed! No independent stalls beyond food and drink. Seems really strange that the pinnacle of the sport hasn't got it's act together in this way?
  10. So with Qualifying on the day determining the draw, that will make scorecards and betting a bit more rushed this season!
  11. With Pickering & Lawson not reaching their usual high standards last night I thought the two teams were very level and only a mistake by Doyle let Lynn hold on for the victory - yet the Ippo fans are tearing apart the team and we're riding high at the top of the group. Will be interesting to see how both teams go against the 'northern' teams
  12. Really sad - loved his work and enthusiasm for the sport. A real advocate for speedway - RIP Nigel
  13. Really happy than Lewis had a reasonable turn-out and hope he is well rewarded for his efforts. I was just pleased to be back at speedway and didn't expect riders to put it all on the line for a testimonial so no real complaints about the racing, but when you have been there for an hour and seen more tractor laps than speedway thats not great. Why did we have to have so much track work after only five or so heats - I thought it didn't help the racing and was far too long. Saw lots of people leaving early but no reflection on Lewis or the riders, just a long time for some parents and kids to be out in the cold
  14. I'm trying to get together a home programme from every track or club represented since WW2 - Doing Ok but have a number of Conference level clubs missing, so I was wondering if anyone can help with any of these they might have available for sale:- Berwick Bullets 2021 Hackney Hawks 2011 M4 Raven Sprockets at Reading 1997 Owlerton Prowlers 1996 Shuttle Cubs at Wolverhampton 1997 Trelawny Pitbulls 2003 Welsh Western Warriors at Exeter 1997 Also, if you have any information that programmes were never issued in these seasons I'm also happy to learn more - thanks for looking
  15. Really hope this is an early ugly rumour - apart from losing another team/track, on a personal note I've really enjoyed my Tuesday trips from South London this season.
  16. Your World Cup analogy is fundamentally flawed - a team could win their qualifying group without conceding a goal, scoring double figures in every game - they then reach the finals. They play through a group and continue to score freely and score maximum points to make the last 16. They win this game and the quarter and semi finals all without conceding a goal - yet in the one off final game they meet a team who have been lucky to get there and lose the World Cup on penalties - does anyone apart from the sore losers look back and say 'Yes but.....?'
  17. Another track ticked off for me - that's 9 new ones this year - and once again I was really impressed. Good atmosphere, friendly people and some great racing. Sat in the Royal Box and benefitted from being able to see the pits clearly as well as the track. I also thought the track staff did a great job, making the outside so attractive for the riders really brought the racing alive. Thanks Redcar - let's spread some positive vibes for once !
  18. Thats brilliant - should have a choice then! Thanks again
  19. Thanks for that R&R - looks as though I might be out of luck unless I bring out the rain-dance!
  20. I'm intending to go over to the Torun GPs and to spend the following week in Poland. Does anyone know if there would be any Speedway likely to take place in that first week of October? Is it possible that the play off finals will stretch into October? Any info would be appreciated
  21. I was on a bit of a speedway tour taking in 5 meetings this week at 4 tracks I hadn't visited before - this meeting was by far and away the best of the week. Looking at the track when I arrived I knew this would produce good racing - nice thick dirt instead of the flat sandy surfaces that seem usual nowadays. The riders then threw themselves into the racing and just about every point was fought over. Particularly impressive was Jordan Palin, who really produced some excitement that didn't always lead to maximum points, but surely underlined his potential. Well done Scunthorpe - I loved it!
