  1. I noticed that too, a few GP's with similar finalists early doors and the title race will be over for 80% of the field. Wasn't keen on the new format prior to tonight and haven't seen anything to change my mind. Little drama or uncertainty throughout the meeting. I expect the title to be narrowed down to 3 or 4 after about 3 GP's as Trick, Crump and Mr Clean are likely to make most, if not all, finals.
  2. The local rag has reported that former Swindon, Stoke and Newport rider Ray Harris has passed away aged 85.
  3. Cov 47-31 Hack N.Boocock 11 Lomas 10 Mountford 7 Owen 6 Simensen 6 Harrhy 4 Hill 3 Jansson 12 Middleton 9 Thomas 5 Etheridge 2 Reeves 1 Knapkin 1 Taffy Owen 1
  4. I know that Craven, Sharples, Lonsdale and Allen have all passed away.
  5. Sorry can't help myself here - I know no-one's asked the question but I'll have a shout at answering it anyway: L-R: Ted Hubbard, Dave Gooderham, Ivan Mauger, ?? (Barry Thomas?? - Shazzy help please!), Tony Featherstone, no idea (Bob Kilby??) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My guess would be: Ted Hubbard, Dave Gooderham, Ivan Mauger, Ian Fletcher, Tony Featherstone and Mick Fishwick....Canterbury v Bradford 1974!!
  6. Neville Slee did make a few first team appearances for other sides. Edinburgh(66),Canterbury(68,70),Ipswich(69,70),Boston(70) I think he was an unfeasibly tall Australian.
  7. I guess my postie has knicked mine then. No sign of yet!!
  8. Oops, 1 too many shandies!! Cheers CHK!!
  9. Does anybody have the full set of scores from the 1983 European Under 21 Final in Lonigo please? The meeting was won by Steve Baker. Chuznee!!
  10. mmm, a mighty score of 3, and a 40-38 win for CH....dodgy!! I remember Easty 40-38 Robins in 1984...blatantly touched the tapes, race brought back with Crumpy in a match winning lead. Hey presto 5-1 Easty in he re-run and a two point win. He then had the neck to come over and gloat in fornt of the Swindon throngs!! Also, a running battle with Henry Hitch over the Golden Helmet at Blunsdon one night in '85 i think. Couldn't abide him as a rider
  11. August 29th 1983 Cradley 53 - 25 Swindon in the morning (Crump 12) Swindon 29 - 49 Cradley in the evening (Crump 15max for Swindon!!) Crumpy got 1/2 of Swindon's points over the 2 matches!!!!! The way we improved we'd have had 'em after another 3 matches!!
  12. All's well, edition 4 arrived this morning. I think a sub confirmation e-mail would be a good idea. Cheers!!
  13. TMC, i filled my online subscription in on Sunday, i've not heard anything back yet to confirm it's worked ok
  14. He did lower himself to be Team Manager for the Runners for a while in the 80's
  15. Bit of an odd one 'Briggo' Neither Stangeland or Handley rode for Swindon before 1973 and 'you' left in 1972!!
  16. Who's been left out who could make a difference then?? Only Chrzanowski looks a real no hoper for a place in the semi's in this lot
  17. I give up..is there no end to how stupidly Speedway wants to portray itself to the outside world??? The World Cup in 3 different countries??!!...Mickey Mouse rubbish!!
  18. I do hope you're having a laugh! Yet another ridiculous decision, speedway can't get anything right.

    Dream Teams

    1. Milan Spinka 2. Veijo Tuoriniemi 3 Frank Richt 4. Leonard Raba 5. Jerzy Trzeszkowski 6. Sumner McKnight 7. Lennart Bengtsson Team Manager: The Rocket Ronnie Byford!! Who dare take on the might of this international Swindon septet??!! Put em up!!
  20. No Hitchy..you can't say that about the mighty Leonard!! The man was an absolute legend...he even rode in a World Team Cup Final. The mere fact he didn't score a solitary point for Swindon is surely immaterial He did have an appalling 'tache though, i'll give you that As for Frank Richt......
